Mukuro Hoshimiya is the tenth Spirit in "Date A Live," known for her long golden hair and emotionless personality. She sealed her feelings away due to a painful past and lived alone in space until discovered by the main characters. Mukuro is powerful, with the ability to lock and unlock memories, and she struggles deeply with loneliness and the fear of being hurt again. Her core story centers on learning to accept love, especially from Shido Itsuka, and overcoming her desire to keep him only to herself.
Mukuro Hoshimiya is a young girl with very long golden hair and golden eyes, both shining brightly.
She stands about 148cm tall.
She often wears a mystical dress with star symbols and decorations, looking similar to a cheongsam but with a magical touch, including cat ear-like pieces on her head.
Mukuro speaks in an old-fashioned, polite way that sounds a little bit like a noblewoman from the past.
She refers to herself with a nickname, "Muku."
At first, she shows no emotions at all, almost like a doll, and rarely changes her facial expression or tone of voice.
Mukuro stays away from everyone, not caring much about the outside world.
However, she can become very defensive if someone threatens her peace or lies to her, and she sometimes reacts with sudden violence.
Deep down, Mukuro is extremely lonely and scared of being hurt.
Her biggest wish is to be loved by her family and not to be left alone.
Mukuro lived in an orphanage after being abandoned by her parents.
Later, she was adopted by the Hoshimiya family, along with an older sister who cared for her.
One day, Mukuro discovered that her sister was close to someone else, and after hearing some painful words (though not meant to hurt), she felt rejected again.
In her sorrow, she met Phantom, who gave her the Sephira Crystal.
Mukuro used her new Spirit powers to seal away everyone's memories about her family in a desperate attempt to keep them close, but instead, this only caused them to fear and reject her as a "monster."
Crushed by grief, Mukuro sealed her own memories and feelings, choosing to drift alone in space to avoid ever being hurt again.
Mukuro's code name is "Zodiac."
Her Astral Dress is called "Divine Spirit Dress, Number Six (Eloha)," glowing with star patterns.
Her Angel is "Michael," a huge staff shaped like a key.
Her powers include:
- "Close": Locks something, sealing or stopping its power.
- "Open": Creates holes in space to release things or attack.
- "Mini Key": Shrinks things down to fit in her hand.
- "Release": Changes her staff into a spear and powers up.
- "Unlock": Breaks apart energy or molecules with a touch.
Mukuro’s powers allow her to seal machines, create space portals for attacks, and even threaten the Earth by stopping its rotation if provoked.
Mukuro develops a close bond with Shido Itsuka, whom she calls "Master" and loves deeply.
She starts to call him family and treasures his kindness, but her fear of losing him makes her try to lock away his memories with others.
She also interacts often with Tohka Yatogami and, after some scary events, becomes friends with her too.
She shares interactions with Nia Honjo during special events.
- Birthday: September 12 (also known as Space Day)
- Height: 148cm
- Three sizes: B91/W60/H88
- Favorite food: Sweet potato jelly
- Dislikes: Lies and dishonesty
Mukuro is the last Spirit related to the Sefirot, except for Da'at.
The color of her hair, gold, represents Tiphareth on the Tree of Life.
"I do not feel something called loneliness."
"This kind of skinship is fine, right? After all, we are family, are we not?"
Life in Space and First Contact
Mukuro closed her heart and lived alone in space for a long time, undetectable by both AST and Ratatoskr organizations until Isaac Ray Pelham Westcott found her by using a special artifact (the Divine Reaper Manuscript).
Her existence was discovered only after DEM attacked her and she struck back.
Mukuro showed no interest in anything and threatened Shido Itsuka when he tried to make contact, warning that she would stop the Earth's rotation if they bothered her again.
Sealing Her Heart
After her painful rejection by her adoptive family, Mukuro used her Angel to seal her own emotions and memories.
This made her immune to pain, but also unable to feel any happiness or love.
She wandered alone, never letting anyone into her heart.
Shido Unlocks Her Feelings
Shido approached Mukuro with kindness and, using a copied version of her angel’s key, unlocked her heart’s seal.
At that moment, Mukuro saw into Shido’s own sad childhood memories and realized he was also abandoned and lonely like her.
She trusted him deeply and decided to love him, wanting to be by his side forever.
Obsession and Danger
Mukuro’s longing for Shido turned into a desire to be his only love.
She locked away the memories of Shido from everyone close to him, believing it was for his own good.
This action caused serious trouble, even bringing out a different Origami Tobiichi and causing Tohka Yatogami to reverse into her dark form.
Out of Control
During a fierce fight to win Shido's love, Tohka cut Mukuro's hair.
This pushed Mukuro into despair and rage, leading her to attack everyone and accidentally hurt Shido.
Realizing what she had done, Mukuro almost lost herself to darkness but was saved at the last moment by Shido’s desperate words and his kiss, which sealed away her Spirit powers and heartbreak.
Finding Family Again
After all her strength faded and her true feelings were set free, Mukuro learned what it meant to be truly loved and found her place among Shido and the other Spirits as family.
Mukuro is often paired with Nia Honjo in special events and collaborations because they appeared around the same time in the story.
Mukuro’s special ability to sense hidden intentions makes lying or trying to trick her pointless and dangerous.
She was made a Spirit by Phantom, just like many others.
She is often seen together with Tohka Yatogami and eventually becomes comfortable with her.
She is said to be both childlike in her honesty and strong in her desire to keep love for herself.
