Character Setting

Edit

Yakushi Usukubo is a unique and passionate character from "GO! GO! Loser Ranger!" who stands out with his deep love for monsters and his drive to fight for their rights. As a survivor of a terrible incident thirteen years ago, he leads the Monster Protection Association, aiming to grant equal rights and respect to both people and monsters. He is also the father of Angel Usukubo and is not afraid to take extreme actions for his cause, even transforming the association’s members into monsters. His story blends obsession, tragedy, and an unforgettable battle against fate.

Yakushi Usukubo is a male character. His appearance is first introduced in volume 9, chapter 74, where he's seen singing a hero show theme song in karaoke. He later appears on the cover of volume 11. When he transforms into his monster form, Dethmesia, he looks like a black dragon-human with many unique abilities.

Yakushi Usukubo is a true monster fan—maybe even a troublesome one. Instead of cheering for the "good guys," he prefers to support the "evil monsters." As a young boy, he was drawn to monsters who fought against hopeless odds, believing their struggle made them special.

He collects official and unofficial merchandise, and he worships his battle squad minifigure every morning. Yakushi is stubborn, creative, and deeply attached to his ideals. He can be harsh, especially towards those who forget what it means to be a monster.

Thirteen years ago, Yakushi Usukubo survived a massacre caused by monster leaders against a religious cult. This event shaped his identity and beliefs. He later became the leader of the Monster Protection Association and worked alongside monster leaders like Hwalipon and Peltrola, as well as a leader of the Monkey group.

In his youth, he lived in a rural village where supporting monsters made him an outsider. There, he met the monster leader Yurimerida and lived peacefully until villagers set fire to their home, forcing them to move to the city. This new life also fell apart after a fight with the Dragon Keeper and others.

He and Yurimerida had a daughter, Angel Usukubo. Yurimerida was eventually defeated by the Red Keeper, and her spirit moved to a nearby girl.

Even though Yakushi is mostly an ordinary human, he can use the Dragon Gadget and once attacked Footsoldier D disguised as Hibiki Sakurama. When he uses the monster transformation medicine, he becomes Dethmesia.

As Dethmesia, Yakushi gains powers by “filling plot holes.” For example:

  • If the monster “burned a city in one night,” he can create huge fireballs.
  • If a script jumps around, he claims Dethmesia can read minds and dodges attacks.
  • If there are two places he appears at once, he creates strong clones.

These "powers" come from Yakushi’s wild fan theories and imagination.

  • Yurimerida: Yakushi’s partner and the mother of Angel Usukubo. He shared joyful but tragic times with her.
  • Angel Usukubo: His daughter. After Yurimerida’s defeat, her spirit moved into Angel. Yakushi deeply cares for her.
  • Footsoldier D: He respects D as a true monster but pushes him to realize what being a monster really means. In later chapters, D is influenced by Yakushi’s ideas and even sees an imaginary "Dethmesia" for advice.

First Appearance

Yakushi Usukubo first appears in chapter 74 singing a hero show song in karaoke. At first, he seems like just an ordinary person.

Becoming a Key Player

It is revealed he is the leader of the Monster Protection Association and a monster "super fan." He prefers monsters to heroes and owns all kinds of merchandise.

Confrontation with Footsoldier D

In volume 10, Footsoldier D arrives in Yakushi’s room. Yakushi respects D but criticizes him for serving the enemy, saying, “If you can't feel for your fellows, your monster self is dead.” After some twists, D joins the association’s side under his human guise.

Transformation into Dethmesia

In volume 11, Yakushi uses a transformation drug and becomes the powerful monster Dethmesia, with abilities based on all the plot holes and fan theories he imagined. He battles the main hero group and is so strong that even they complain he’s "overpowered" by his own rules.

Unraveling the Past

Chapters 120-122 flash back to Yakushi’s younger days. He met Yurimerida in the countryside and faced hardship and loss after villagers burned his house. He tried to start over in the city, but new battles crushed his hope.

Yurimerida fought the Red Keeper but lost, her spirit passing to a young girl.

The End of Dethmesia

Near the end of the "Monster Protection vs. Association" arc, Yurimerida tries to take over Angel’s mind. Angel resists, making Yurimerida disappear.

Yakushi, obsessed with being the “true fan,” turns into a monster, but when the conclusion of the show and his personal weakness are revealed, he is defeated and trapped in an indestructible room with D.

Yakushi’s Final Days

Even when dying, Yakushi helps D by giving him clues about the floating castle and battle squad. He gives D a special mechanical leg he created, then quietly passes away. His body is treated with respect afterward because of his influence.

Aftermath

In chapter 139, D sometimes imagines talking to a "Dethmesia" in his head, showing Yakushi’s ideas live on. D seeks advice in tough spots but finds there are some questions Yakushi’s fan theories couldn’t answer.

Yakushi Usukubo stands out for his fanatical love for monsters, his tragic past, and his unusual way of seeing the world. Through his journey, he becomes a symbol of what it means to resist fate—even if it means blurring the line between man and monster.
