Tsugumomo2

The manga was initially serialized in Futabasha's web comic magazine COMIC SEED! starting with the January 2008 issue.

Following the magazine's discontinuation, it moved to the successor web magazine WEB COMIC HIGH! on August 20, 2008.

In 2013, it transferred to the newly launched Monthly Action magazine, where it ran until the magazine's suspension in February 2024.

The series then moved to Manga Action, where it continues to run.

As of March 2026, the series has been collected into 36 *tankōbon* volumes under the Action Comics imprint, with over 1.5 million copies in circulation by October 2017.

The Beginning

Kazuya Kagami is a seemingly ordinary 14-year-old middle school student who cherishes his late mother's keepsake, a silk sash.

While on the school rooftop, he is attacked by a cursed wig turned monster.

He is saved by Kiriha, a beautiful girl in a kimono who emerges from the sash.

Kiriha is a *tsukumogami*—a spirit born from an ancient object—who has a past connection with Kazuya, though his memories of her and his mother Kanaka Kagami have been sealed away by the local deity, Kukuri.

The "Susuharai"

Kazuya learns that he possesses a constitution that attracts "suso" (curses), which cause supernatural disturbances.

The land god Kukuri tasks him with becoming the area's new "susuharai," an exorcist who banishes these malevolent spirits.

Kazuya fights by merging with Kiriha's true form, a sash, to gain combat abilities.

Kazuya Kagami

The series' protagonist, he is a kind-hearted junior high student who becomes a powerful exorcist.

Born an "unclean child" after his mother's contact with a malevolent curse, he naturally draws in supernatural threats.

He develops a close, often ecchi, bond with Kiriha and later becomes able to wield multiple *tsukumogami* simultaneously.

Kiriha

Voiced by: Naomi Oozora

The main heroine and the *tsukumogami* of the sash "Ayasakura," a gift from Kazuya's mother.

She is a proud, often sadistic, and sweet-toothed spirit who is fiercely protective and possessive of Kazuya, using her sash-like body for a versatile fighting style called "obi-gurumi."

Kukuri

Voiced by: Yurika Kubo

The local land deity of Kamikura, known as the "Great Goddess of Hakusan."

She normally appears as a child-like priestess due to her weakened power from maintaining a barrier over the town, and speaks in a Kansai dialect.

She often provides guidance to Kazuya but is frequently reprimanded by Kiriha for her mistakes.

Kanaka Kagami

Voiced by: Kotono Mitsuishi

Kazuya and Kasumi's deceased mother and the previous susuharai for Kamikura.

A key figure in the past, she was emotionally detached from a young age and a prodigious talent who was eventually killed by Kiriha after becoming a "tsukumotsuki"—a state of being possessed by her tool spirit.

Tsukumogami (付喪神)

Spirits that inhabit old, well-used objects, they come in two main types.

"Tsugumomo" are born naturally over a century and can take human form, using their original object's properties as weapons.

"Amasogi" are born suddenly from a strong wish and dense curses, often manifesting as more beast-like and dangerous beings that can enslave their creators.

Susuharai (すそはらい)

An exorcist who uses a *tsukumogami* partner to defeat rogue *amasogi* and *zatsuyo* (common monsters).

Each territory typically has one appointed susuharai.

Tsuzura-dono (つづら殿)

A massive, government-connected training academy for exorcists, managed by the realm of the gods, Takamagahara.

It is internally divided between the "Pro-Tsukumogami Faction," who see them as partners, and the "Subordinate-Tsukumogami Faction," who view them as mere tools.

Two anime seasons have been produced by Zero-G, directed by Ryoichi Kuraya.

The series is known for its intense action sequences combined with extreme ecchi comedy.

Season 1 (Tsugumomo)

Broadcast from April to June 2017, the first season consists of 12 episodes.

It adapts the early volumes of the manga, covering Kazuya's awakening as a susuharai and his initial battles.

Season 2 (Tsugu Tsugumomo)

The second season, announced in March 2019, aired from April to June 2020.

Also comprising 12 episodes, it covers the "Mystery Consultation Room" and "Mayoiga" story arcs, deepening the conflict with a tribe of rogue *tsukumogami*.

A special OVA episode was funded through a successful crowdfunding campaign.

This "H" version, containing extra risqué content not suitable for television broadcast, was released with the limited edition of manga volume 24 in January 2020.
