The series won numerous awards, including Anime of the Year at the 9th Anime Trending Awards where it swept eight categories, and the prestigious Newtype Anime Awards for Best TV Series and Best Director.
The show’s realistic portrayal of young band struggles, high-quality animation, and strong music performances resonated deeply with fans and even drove up real-world guitar sales and tourism to the show's setting in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo.
Theatrical Compilation Films
To bridge the gap between seasons, two theatrical compilation films were released in 2024: *Bocchi the Rock! Re:* in June and *Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re:* in August, which performed exceptionally well at the box office with the first part opening at number one in the Japanese weekend rankings.
The story follows Hitori Gotōh, an incredibly introverted high school girl who becomes a skilled guitarist under the online alias "Guitar Hero" but struggles to make friends.
She gets swept into joining a band named Kessoku Band with the cheerful drummer Nijika Ijichi and cool bassist Ryou Yamada, later adding the bright and popular Ikuyo Kita as vocalist and guitarist.
Together, they navigate the challenges of performing live, writing original songs, and growing both as musicians and as friends in the local Shimokitazawa music scene.
