Suzu Kanade

The heroine of this work, a childhood friend and high school classmate of Matsuri. A young spirit medium girl with strong vitality, she grew up befriending spirits from a young age. She has a habit of describing things as "incredible" or "absolute" with her catchphrase "moooretsu."

Despite being a beautiful girl with characteristic black bobbed hair, she is self-conscious about having slightly thick legs, and has been known to punish Matsuri for pointing this out without malice. She loves sweet foods, and oversees the dessert menu at her family's café "Melody Bell." As a child, she was isolated and looked down upon as a weirdo by ordinary people, including her family, who could not see spirits and thought she was muttering to herself when interacting with them. However, she gradually regained her natural cheerfulness after befriending Matsuri, who can also see spirits, and began to develop romantic feelings for him.

After Matsuri became an exorcist ninja, she initially clashed with him for trying to keep her away from spirits, but their relationship improved as she supported Matsuri, who had been cursed by Shirogane because of her. Driven by the fear that she would not be able to date Matsuri as a different gender if he couldn't return to being a man, she opposed the idea of defeating Shirogane, the only one who could break the curse, and worked hard to bring the two together. Believing that if Shirogane stopped seeing her as prey, there would be no reason for conflict with Matsuri, she planned to attract Shirogane's interest with her homemade sweets. She created a special millet dumpling called "Suzu dango," filled with her unconscious vitality, which even Shirogane, a carnivorous cat by nature, praised as delicious. She is attracted to the still gallant appearance of Matsuri, even in female form, and fantasizes about a same-sex romance in case Matsuri cannot revert to his male form.

Her basic desires are strong in general, and after her love for Matsuri became clear, she became more sexually assertive, earning the names "Indecent Medium" from Shirogane and "Lust Ghost" from Kanade. Shirogane speculates whether her excessive vitality is the reason she is a spirit medium, though it's unclear whether her unparalleled spiritual strength is related to her nature as a medium.

As she overcomes various spirit conflicts and battles, she hones her abilities as a medium, eventually becoming revered as the "King of Spirits" by the neighboring spirits, taking Shirogane's place.

Kanade / Childheart (Osanagokoro no Kimi)

An alternate personality that exists within Suzu's psyche. She appears as the young Suzu. While spirit mediums normally recall only fragments of their past life memories and knowledge as they reincarnate and grow, Suzu inherited the memories of all 12 of her past incarnations as a medium. Having lived without laughter due to these memories, she was born from the separation of these past memories by the main personality, Suzu, after meeting Matsuri. Initially called "Childheart-chan" by the main Suzu personality, she chose to be called "Kanade," which was the name used by the young Matsuri.
