A second-year student at Nekoma High School, number 5.
Yamamoto was told his long black hair was conspicuous, so he dyed it blond. However, re-dyeing it is a hassle, so his natural black hair is growing back, leading to a two-toned, pudding-head look.
A clever player with a sharp eye for observing and predicting opponents’ movements and countering them accurately. Referred to as Nekoma's "spine, brain, and heart" by Kuroo, Kageyama also highly respects him. Not particularly fond of volleyball, he openly admits it's "exhausting" and continues playing simply because his childhood friend Kuroo does. While admitting he cares about Kuroo, he doesn't continue playing just for him; he has no absolute reason to keep playing nor does he have a reason to quit, so he just "happens to continue."
An independent spirit who dislikes interacting with others and is a gamer who is not good with people. He was so introverted that he barely had anyone to play with besides Kuroo, but he warms up to Hinata quickly and begins talking to him. Dislikes the enthusiastic vibe of sports teams based on seniority; allows his junior, Hinata, to call him by his first name "Kenma," while his underclassmen, like Haiba, call him "Kenma-san."
Despite appearing laid back and unmotivated, he is a sore loser, which even intimidates someone as determined as Yamamoto. During the second match of the Spring Tournament against Hayakawa Tech, he proposed a strategy that turned their plan to crush him on its head, leading his team to victory (though he later regretted suggesting it).
There's a story of him being scolded by his parents for staying up late playing games, after which he started waking up "early" at 2 AM to play.
Not the type to show emotions, but he is openly repulsive of people and playing styles he dislikes. Gets excited or shows a creepy smile when facing situations like opening a new game or conquering a difficult challenge in a game. After a joint practice before the Spring High preliminaries, he conveyed to Hinata his desire to play "official matches where it's game over if you lose."
After the first practice match with Karasuno, when Hinata asked for his thoughts, he replied "nothing special," prompting Hinata to declare that he would make Kenma say something other than "nothing special." In the final stages of their Spring High match against Karasuno, after experiencing the attacks of Hinata who broke through the strategies Kenma had devised, he finally uttered, "Fun," to Hinata's delight. After the match, he thanked Kuroo for introducing him to volleyball, touching Kuroo emotionally. After graduating high school, he chose to attend university while also working as a stock trader, professional gamer, and YouTuber, and he is the CEO of Bouncing Ball Corporation. He became the sponsor for Hinata's training in Brazil, telling Hinata that he'd quit if it got boring since he had the money. As a gamer, he is active under the name "KODZUKEN," and he's so famous internationally that Hinata's Brazilian roommate Pedro asked for his signature when parting with Hinata.
