Razen is the legendary archmage who protected the large Western Kingdom of Falmuth for several hundred years.

His name and feats are known even in distant nations such as Eurazania and Sarion, marking him as one of the most accomplished magic users in the human world.

He gained unnatural longevity by using the secret mind‑type magic “Possession,” forcibly overwriting one body after another with his own soul.

Because of this, he has lived through multiple generations of rulers and political systems while continuously serving as Falmuth’s hidden trump card.

Although feared as the “Demon of Wisdom” and once viewed as a heroic defender of humanity, Razen is also pragmatic and ruthlessly self‑preserving.

After tasting the overwhelming power of Diablo and Rimuru Tempest, he abandons resistance and chooses survival through loyal submission.

Razen is highly intelligent, calm, and calculating, with a cool head for both politics and strategy.

He thinks in the long term, valuing the prosperity of the realm and the stability of society more than titles, names, or who sits on the throne.

For centuries he played the role of Falmuth’s guardian, but his true loyalty is to the “country” and its people, not any particular king.

If the old system becomes a burden to the nation’s future, he can accept its collapse as a necessary sacrifice.

He also has a strong survival instinct and is not ashamed to retreat or submit when confronted with absolute power.

When Diablo easily crushes him, Razen immediately understands the gap in strength and chooses to offer himself as a subordinate in order to save Edmaris and preserve some future for Falmuth.

Despite his cold pragmatism, Razen is not sadistic by nature.

Later, as Farmenas stabilizes and prospers, he genuinely takes pride in the people’s peace and happiness and works hard in the background to maintain order.

His relationship with his disciples and allies is surprisingly warm.

He sincerely trains Saare and Grigori and even promises Mjurran to guide Youm’s daughter Mime in her magical training, showing a softer, mentor‑like side beneath his intimidating reputation.

Razen is one of the top human magic users in the Western Nations, said to be surpassed only by Granbell Rosso and Hinata Sakaguchi in terms of overall combat capability.

In the field of spellcasting technique and magic theory, few, if any, can match him.

Veldora Tempest even remarks that Razen is stronger than the Demon Lord Geld, highlighting how dangerous he is by human standards.

His expertise lies in high‑tier magic, complex rituals, and rare secret arts.

Magic Specialization

Razen stands at the edge of what humans can achieve with magic, mastering numerous high‑level spells and forbidden techniques.

He can accurately deploy layered barriers, complex long‑range attacks, and large‑scale spells that only a handful of “Wizard‑class and above” can even attempt.

He is able to use:

Upper‑Tier Transfer Magic: Advanced teleportation and extraction spells that allow him to snatch allies from the battlefield in an instant.

Nuclear Strike Magic: Catastrophic, self‑triggered magic that can activate upon his own death as a last resort.

Elemental Summoning: Such as calling forth high‑ranking earth spirits in the form of the Earth Knight.

His name is attached to some of the most feared spells in the Western Nations, and many nobles and knights relied on him as the absolute final shield.

However, his magic, while overwhelming to humans and ordinary monsters, proves utterly ineffective against true monsters like Diablo.

Possession and Survival Skills

Razen’s longevity is due to the secret mind‑type spell Possession.

Instead of a complete reincarnation, it involves overwriting another person’s body with his consciousness, letting him continue to live through that host.

His master Gadra uses a different technique, Reincarnation, which Razen himself cannot invoke.

Unable to replicate Gadra’s method, Razen chose the more brutal but reliable path of invading and seizing other bodies.

When he later possesses Shougo Taguchi, he gains access to Shougo’s Unique Skills:

Berserker (Abaramono / “Roughneck”): Enhances physical combat, boosting attack power and durability.

Survivor (Ikirumono / “Living One”): Greatly heightens survivability, including delayed auto‑revival even after apparent death.

With Shougo’s body and these skills, Razen’s physical capabilities and regeneration skyrocket, giving him a strength close to that of a nascent Demon Lord seed.

This combination makes him a terrifying hybrid of elite mage and brutal close‑quarters fighter, though still far below beings like Rimuru, Diablo, or the Primordial Demons.

“Birth of the Demon Lord” Arc

At this time, Razen serves as the guardian archmage of the Kingdom of Falmuth and joins the expedition to subjugate the monster nation Tempest.

He quickly detects that Tempest bears signs of otherworlder influence from names like “police box” and “substation” on their roads, making him wary of unknown technology and abilities.

Sensing that the templar knights maintaining the fourfold sealing barrier around Rimuru’s city might be in serious danger, he rushes to the outskirts of Tempest.

By the time he arrives, the knights have already been devastated, and Shougo Taguchi, their remaining human weapon, is cornered and nearly defeated by Geld and Hakurou.

Using upper‑tier transfer magic and nuclear strike spells as distraction and cover, Razen successfully extracts Shougo from imminent death and retreats to the Falmuth army’s camp.

Assessing Shougo’s mental collapse, crushing fear, and inability to continue fighting, Razen judges that the young man will never again be useful on the battlefield.

Recognizing that Shougo possesses extremely rare Unique Skills, Razen decides to seize his body using Possession.

He discards Shougo’s original consciousness and takes over, inheriting both the body and its powerful abilities for himself.

With this, Razen gains strength comparable to a Demon Lord seed and believes he has secured a young, promising vessel for the next stage of his long life.

However, his plans are cut short when Rimuru Tempest personally launches a sudden raid on the Falmuth main camp.

Rimuru’s ultimate spell Wrath of God (Megiddo) annihilates the Falmuth forces, and Razen is apparently killed on the spot without being able to resist.

Yet thanks to the Unique Skill Survivor, he revives after a time delay, rising again in a world that now belongs overwhelmingly to Rimuru.

Realizing he cannot hope to defeat Rimuru, Razen hides and observes events from the shadows.

His concealment does not last: he is discovered by demons summoned by Rimuru and forced into combat.

In a desperate attempt to live up to his “Demon of Wisdom” name, Razen unleashes some of his strongest magic, including the nuclear spell Heat Convergence Cannon (Nuclear Cannon) and the earth elemental summon Earth Knight (War Gnome).

These attacks, which would annihilate most foes in the Western Nations, do absolutely nothing to Diablo and the other high‑rank demons, who treat him like a plaything.

Faced with Diablo’s abnormal aura and iconic features, Razen realizes in terror that he is facing the “Primordial Black,” one of the most feared demons in existence.

He is effortlessly crushed and taken prisoner along with King Edmaris and Archbishop Reyheim.

“Confrontation Between Holy and Demon” Arc

Razen is imprisoned in Tempest’s underground cells and interrogated by Shion.

Later, Rimuru arranges for Razen, Edmaris, and Reyheim to be returned to the Kingdom of Falmuth as part of a larger political plan, with Diablo as their escort and handler.

Having served as Falmuth’s guardian for centuries, Razen is forced to acknowledge Rimuru’s overwhelming power and the colossal mistake Falmuth made by provoking Tempest.

He bitterly regrets having “woken a sleeping lion,” understanding that their attack created a new Demon Lord and unleashed consequences beyond human control.

Seeing that King Edmaris will almost certainly be executed if negotiations go poorly, Razen makes a decisive choice.

He kneels and begs Diablo to spare Edmaris’s life, offering himself as one of Diablo’s lowliest servants in exchange.

Diablo accepts this offer.

Razen immediately grasps the full weight of what it means to serve a being like Diablo and sincerely swears absolute loyalty, becoming a subordinate who will never again oppose his demonic master.

Though now bound to Diablo, Razen is not resentful.

He places his hopes in Rimuru’s plan to reshape and develop Falmuth into a more stable, prosperous nation, and views the collapse of the old, corrupt system as an acceptable price.

Upon reaching Falmuth’s capital, Razen and Diablo enact a carefully scripted scenario prepared in advance.

Razen delivers the mutated, battered King Edmaris back to the royal palace and claims that a hero named Youm Farmenas will soon return with a miraculous potion to restore the king.

Because Razen has guarded the kingdom for centuries, the nobles cannot easily dispute his testimony, even if they dislike the implications.

He uses Rimuru’s fabricated story to paint Rimuru as a fundamentally “friendly monster” who was only forced into harsh actions by Falmuth’s aggression.

At the same time, Razen successfully underscores the terrifying threat posed by Veldora and the monster nation, making it clear that direct conflict would be suicidal.

Inwardly, he knows the reality is even worse than the story he presents, but considers this softened version the most palatable option for the nobility and the state.

“Magic City Founding” Arc

After the internal turmoil in Falmuth is quelled by Diablo and his allies, the old kingdom is effectively reshaped into the Kingdom of Farmenas.

Youm Farmenas is installed as the first king, with Rimuru’s backing and Diablo’s oversight.

Razen accepts the new order and becomes the first Court Magician General of Farmenas.

He works from the shadows to eliminate remnants of the old Falmuth nobility who attempt to stir rebellion, quietly dismantling plots before they threaten the nation.

He cooperates closely with Youm in the practical running of the kingdom, offering administrative advice, magical support, and intelligence analysis.

Under his guidance, the new state gradually stabilizes, and Razen’s role evolves from mere weapon to nation‑builder.

“Awakening of the Hero” Arc

Razen’s true goal becomes clear: he wants the country to be prosperous and its people to live peacefully, regardless of what name the kingdom bears.

To him, Falmuth or Farmenas are just labels; the welfare of the citizens is what matters.

He actively travels the country to inspect local conditions, identifying unrest and dangerous elements before they grow into larger threats.

By doing this, he helps maintain public order and ensures that Farmenas can enjoy long‑term stability.

Razen also keeps in touch with Youm using magic, reporting on domestic issues and offering advice.

Within Farmenas, he becomes an indispensable pillar of governance, more akin to a grand vizier and chief security officer than just a court mage.

“Before the War” Arc

Following the suppression of Falmuth’s civil strife, Razen takes on two of the famed “Three Martial Sages,” Saare and Grigori, as his disciples.

He trains them rigorously in magic and tactics, preparing them to become powerful protectors of the realm.

While working in his office as usual, Razen senses the arrival of a powerful magic user in Farmenas.

Saare and Grigori immediately sortie to confront the intruder, but Razen recognizes the overwhelming magic signature as belonging to his own master, Gadra.

To prevent a serious clash between his disciples and his master, Razen quickly arranges a meeting with Gadra.

He learns that Gadra has been sent as a spy from the Eastern Empire to gather information about Tempest’s military power.

Gadra tries to persuade Razen to betray Tempest and side with the Empire, expecting Razen to be tempted by imperial strength and resources.

Razen, however, explains the brutal truth: the complete annihilation of the Falmuth army was carried out single‑handedly by Rimuru Tempest.

He further reveals that Rimuru commands the Primordial Demons, including Diablo, and that the long‑standing goal of Gadra—overthrowing the Seven Days Clergy—has already been achieved by the monster federation.

He strongly warns Gadra that opposing Tempest is equivalent to suicide and offers a clear, rational assessment that the Empire no longer holds the advantage.

Hearing this, Gadra realizes just how abnormal Rimuru and Tempest have become and that fighting on the Empire’s side is meaningless.

Instead, he decides to defect to the monster federation and asks Razen to arrange an audience with Rimuru so he can pledge allegiance.

Razen agrees and becomes the bridge that connects his old master to his new overlord’s ally, further entwining Farmenas’s fate with that of Tempest.

“End of Ambitions” Arc

In this later, more peaceful era, Razen maintains a good rapport with Mjurran, who has also become part of Youm’s circle.

He promises to personally train Youm and Mjurran’s daughter, Mime, in magic, treating her like the next generation he will help guide.

Compared to the unstable days of Falmuth, the new kingdom is thriving.

The people live in relative peace and stability, and Razen feels that his long‑held objective—the prosperity and happiness of the populace—has finally been realized.

Razen gives Saare all of his accumulated knowledge and techniques, from spell theory to practical combat experience.

By this point, Saare has grown so strong that Razen himself considers his disciple to have surpassed him in pure combat power.

Having survived for centuries through possession, Razen ultimately finds meaning not in further extending his life, but in leaving behind capable successors and a flourishing nation.

He continues to serve loyally under Diablo’s shadow, quietly ensuring that Farmenas remains secure in the new world order shaped by Rimuru Tempest.
