Height: 190 centimeters / Weight: 82 kilograms / Birthday: August 2
A first-year student at Seirin High School and Kuroko's partner at Seirin. His position is PF (Power Forward). His jersey number is 10. His nickname, given by Kagetora, is "Akaino" (The Red One).
He is regarded as a once-in-a-decade genius, just like the Generation of Miracles, and is referred to as the "Miracle that is not a Miracle."
With his split eyebrows and muscular build, he is a returnee from America who came to Japan after graduating from middle school. He is a hot-blooded person full of a challenging spirit and a desire for self-improvement. Initially, he and Kuroko did not have a good impression of each other, but they became close friends through playing together. He is inherently kind and easily swayed by emotions, as seen in his fear of severing ties with his older brother figure, Himuro, which prevents him from giving his all in a match. Upon returning to Japan, he was disappointed by the low level of basketball and temporarily quit the sport in his third year of middle school.
Since his father stayed in America for work, he currently lives alone in an apartment near the WC main venue. His private life is simple, with only minimal furniture and basketball equipment in his room. He handles household chores himself and often cooks for the team during training camps, being a big eater himself. Despite his fierce appearance and rough demeanor, he is afraid of dogs and ghost stories. While he shows sharp intelligence in basketball, he struggles academically and barely passed Seirin's entrance exam. Although fluent in everyday English conversation, he finds English classes difficult due to their "excessive detail." His long stay in America has made him poor at using honorifics, but he gradually shows more respect in his speech towards seniors and skilled individuals.
During his junior school days in America, he stood out as one of the few Japanese students, but his encounter with Himuro, who later became his older brother figure, led him to immerse himself in basketball. The ring chain he wears around his neck is a symbol of his brotherhood with Himuro. However, their relationship became strained when he played half-heartedly to avoid hurting the injured Himuro, leading to a falling out and his departure from America.
As a first-year student, he serves as Seirin's ace and is a promising rookie. His rough street basketball style is notable, and although still developing, he possesses talent comparable to the Generation of Miracles. His greatest weapon is his overwhelming jumping ability, with an impressive maximum reach and hang time that increases with each jump, though it heavily drains his stamina and legs, limiting its use. Initially weak in ball handling with his left hand, he later successfully corrects this. Before the WC, he travels to America and, under Alex's guidance, regains his "wildness."
In the WC match against Tōō Academy, he enters the "Zone" during his matchup with Aomine, breaking through the defense. In the match against Yōsen, he struggles with relying on the Zone and is harshly criticized by Kise, but this ultimately motivates him to rediscover his play style and enter the Zone, showcasing the "Meteor Jam" he learned from Alex. In the match against Kaijō, he demonstrates rapid growth during the game, breaking through double-team defenses. In the match against Rakuzan, he enters the Zone right after the game starts, scoring the first point against Rakuzan. Although initially countered by Akashi and temporarily losing the Zone, he re-enters it with Kuroko's return, using long-range defense to confuse the opponent. Despite being cornered by Rakuzan's team play, he receives encouragement from the audience, unlocking the "Second Door" within the Zone and entering the "Direct Linkage Zone."
In the match against "Jabberwock" in 'EXTRA GAME,' he enters the Zone with Aomine two minutes before the end of the game, and together they make the final dunk to win the match. In 'LAST GAME,' with Alex's recommendation, he transfers to an American high school with a strong team and leaves Japan.
