Kenichi Okamura

Kenichi Okamura is very tall, standing at 200 cm, and weighs 98 kg. He is known for his strong, bulky body that makes him look almost like a gorilla. His face is very bold, with a deep chin and thick, noticeable sideburns. He stands out among his teammates because of his big size and tough appearance.

Kenichi Okamura tries hard to impress girls, which is why he first joined basketball. However, he is not very lucky in this area, and often feels jealous of his popular teammates. He is often teased about his face by his friends, but he does not get angry. When things get serious, he shows true leadership and is dependable when the team needs him most. He calls himself “Washi,” a classic word for “I” in old-fashioned Japanese.

Kenichi Okamura is a third-year student at Yosen High School. He is the team captain and plays as the Power Forward (PF), wearing number 4. In the “EXTRA GAME” he plays for the college team “Strky” and wears number 8.

Kenichi Okamura is best at using his powerful body to get rebounds and play under the basket. His main basketball move is: High post → Turn → Shoot. Though very strong, he is not very fast, as Tatsuya Himuro points out. He was originally a Center (C) before switching to Power Forward.

Kenichi Okamura is the captain of Atsushi Murasakibara and Wei Liu. He is jealous of teammates like Tatsuya Himuro, who are more popular with women. He often gets teased by his teammates like Kensuke Fukui and Wei Liu about his looks and lack of luck with girls. Still, they all trust him. He also looks up to Eikichi Nebuya as a player to watch.

Joining Basketball

Kenichi Okamura started playing basketball because he was encouraged by the basketball club recruiters and thought that playing the sport would make him popular with girls, but this never worked out as he hoped.

Teammates and Teasing

He often gets teased for his face and sideburns by both older and younger teammates. When Alexandra Garcia visited Tatsuya Himuro, Kenichi Okamura cried because he felt jealous.

Kensuke Fukui told him straight-faced, “Even if you play basketball or not, you still won’t be popular.”

Wei Liu even suggested to him, “Maybe you should get rid of those sideburns and your chin,” which made Kenichi Okamura cry.

Proving Leadership

Even though he is teased a lot, Kenichi Okamura proves his worth as a reliable team captain when a situation gets tough. The coach of Yosen trusts him for his strength and leadership. He is especially important in the inside plays and defense.

After Graduation

After finishing high school, he seems to have moved to Tokyo for university, as he is seen having a meal with Yukio Kasamatsu, who also moved to the city.

Kenichi Okamura’s favorite thing is pudding, and he can eat up to 1 kg of it. On his days off, he enjoys visiting sweet shops. He is not very fast but makes up for it with strength and smart plays near the basket. Even though he wanted to be popular, he became someone his teammates can always count on.
