Daisuke Hiyama is a classic school bully and the leader of a delinquent group. He bullies those weaker than him, sucks up to the strong, and is jealous of Hajime Nagumo because Kaori Shirasaki likes Hajime. After getting summoned to another world, Daisuke's jealousy and crimes against Hajime escalate, leading to deadly betrayals and dark actions. In the end, he becomes a true villain, turning against former friends and meeting a harsh fate, showing how far his obsession and cowardice take him.
Daisuke Hiyama stands out with his light brown hair, sharp eyes, and a fang-like tooth.
He has a face that immediately makes people think of a delinquent or troublemaker.
Hiyama is the textbook example of a small-time villain.
He hurts weaker people to feel superior, but grovels in front of anyone stronger.
His feelings for Kaori Shirasaki are obsessive and twisted.
At first, he is scared of killing and feels guilty, but after falling under the influence of Eri Nakamura and under pressure, he gives up his morals entirely.
He becomes willing to betray even friends and kind teachers for selfish reasons.
Before being summoned to the fantasy world of Tortus, Daisuke Hiyama already targeted Hajime Nagumo, calling him a gloomy nerd and bullying him with his group.
He is always jealous that Kaori Shirasaki cares about Hajime instead of him.
After they gain special powers in Tortus, Hiyama leads his group and continues targeting Hajime because of his "worthless" job.
This jealousy pushes him to darker and darker choices.
Daisuke Hiyama's job in Tortus is "Light Warrior," making him physically agile and suited for front-line combat.
He can use fire magic and improves his skills over time, but his true strength never comes close to the main heroes.
- Hajime Nagumo: Hiyama bullies Hajime out of jealousy and fear, seeing him as both a threat and a target.
- Kaori Shirasaki: He is obsessed with Kaori, but his feelings turn possessive and dangerous.
- Eri Nakamura: After she catches him justifying his misdeeds, she manipulates him into being her helper and promises to give him Kaori as a reward.
- Shinji Nakano, Yoshiki Saitou, Reichi Kondou: His partners in bullying Hajime; after they die or break away, his group ends.
Hajime Nagumo: "Hey, Hiyama. Did your fire magic get any better?"
School Bully
Before coming to Tortus, Daisuke Hiyama leads a group including Shinji Nakano, Yoshiki Saitou, and Reichi Kondou, bullying Hajime Nagumo.
He feels threatened and jealous because Kaori Shirasaki cares about Hajime.
Abusing Power after Summoning
After being summoned, Hiyama gets the job of "Light Warrior."
He forms a party with his usual friends and continues to bully Hajime, who receives the "Synergist" job and is called useless.
The Incident in Orcus Dungeon
Before going to the dungeon, Hiyama sees Kaori visiting Hajime at night.
This fuels his jealousy even further.
During a battle, when classmates fire magic at a monster to help Hajime, Hiyama uses the chaos as cover and attacks Hajime with a fireball, causing him to fall into the abyss.
Stuck with Guilt and Blackmail
Afterwards, Hiyama feels guilty and tries to convince himself he did nothing wrong.
However, Eri Nakamura catches him and blackmails him into helping her, promising he'll get Kaori.
Learning Hajime Survived
In a later fight, Hajime, now powerful and changed, returns.
Hiyama is shocked to see him alive and even stronger than everyone else.
When Kaori chooses to go with Hajime, Hiyama tries to stop her, even begging Hajime for forgiveness.
But Hajime's cold words make Hiyama realize his guilt is known.
Becoming a Villain
Hiyama grows desperate.
He hates Hajime and even thinks about giving up Kaori, but Eri convinces him to try to "take her back."
He abandons any morals and works with Eri, even murdering knights in secret so she can control them magically.
King’s Capital Attack
During the attack on the royal capital, he fakes being hurt and tries to kill Kaori by stabbing her, hoping Eri will turn her into a puppet for him.
But Hajime arrives and defeats Hiyama easily.
Hiyama, badly injured, still tries to fight but is simply tossed into a crowd of monsters by Hajime.
Just like he pushed Hajime into the abyss, Hiyama gets his arm bitten off and is eaten alive by monsters.
Aftermath
After the story, Hajime and Aiko Hatayama visit families of students who died.
When Hiyama's family learns how he died, they try to get revenge but fail.
The rest of Hiyama's group breaks apart; his old bullies, Nakano and Saitou, stop fighting after his death but later return for the final battle and improve themselves.
- Hiyama’s voice actor, Minoru Shiraishi, said in a 2022 online event that Hiyama’s ending was deserved and got no sympathy.
- After Hiyama's arc, Minoru Shiraishi also voiced Baius D. Hoelscher in season 3, another villainous character.
