Megalo

Megalo is a huge shark, about the size of a large house.

He likes to wear clothes, showing his sense of fashion.

His mouth is big enough to hide people or even Shirahoshi herself.

Megalo makes a "Sha-" sound instead of a typical shark roar.

Despite his fearsome look, Megalo is very gentle and kind.

He loves Shirahoshi very much and cares about her feelings.

He has some hunting instincts, as he likes to eat seals.

Megalo is loyal and brave, even standing up to Luffy D. Monkey when Shirahoshi starts crying.

Shirahoshi, who usually speaks politely to everyone, talks to Megalo in casual language, showing how close they are.

Megalo was originally the pet of Neptune's army in Ryugu Kingdom.

Later, he became Shirahoshi's pet and closest friend when she was confined in the hard shell tower.

Since family and staff could only spend a few minutes with Shirahoshi, Megalo became her main companion for conversation and support.

Witness to Otohime's Death

Megalo saw Hody's assassination of Queen Otohime.

He later told Shirahoshi about what he saw.

Shirahoshi chose to keep this a secret because of Otohime's wish that no one should be angry for her sake.

Shirahoshi's Life in the Hard Shell Tower

After Otohime's death, Shirahoshi was kept hidden inside a hard shell tower to protect her from Vander Decken IX.

Megalo became her only real friend and daily conversation partner during her isolation.

Encounter with the Straw Hat Pirates

While outside Fish-Man Island, Megalo was captured by Surume the kraken.

He was rescued by the Straw Hat Pirates, led by Luffy D. Monkey.

Luffy D. Monkey later visited the Ryugu Palace with Shirahoshi and Megalo.

The Escape to the Sea Forest

Shirahoshi wanted to visit her mother's grave at Sea Forest.

Luffy D. Monkey came up with a plan to sneak her out.

He made Megalo hide Shirahoshi inside his mouth to help her get past the guards.

It was very uncomfortable for both of them, but this clever trick helped them escape for a while.

When Megalo could not hold Shirahoshi any longer, he spat her out, leading to some chaos and misunderstandings.

The Confrontation at Gyoncorde Plaza

Megalo later helped Luffy D. Monkey and his crew by hiding them inside his mouth to approach King Neptune.

This move saved Neptune’s life and helped Straw Hat Pirates free the royal family and friends.

The Straw Hat Pirates then defeated Hody’s crew, saving the kingdom.

Afterwards, Megalo joined the party celebrating the rescue of the Ryugu Kingdom and also came to see off the Straw Hat Pirates when they left.

Megalo can hold very large objects or people in his mouth, including Shirahoshi herself and even multiple people at once.

Despite his size and scary look, he is peaceful and friendly.

Megalo is deeply trusted by Shirahoshi, serving as her friend and helper.

He respects King Neptune and is loyal to all the royal family.

He interacts with Luffy D. Monkey and the Straw Hat Pirates during their stay on Fish-Man Island.

In an SBS (Q&A) segment in Volume 64, the creator Oda stated Megalo was inspired by the ancient megalodon shark.

Megalo could have been between 13 to 20 meters long, making him a truly huge creature.
