Jinka Yamato's master is a legendary martial sage known as the "Phoenix Slayer." He has a past of becoming stronger through repeatedly challenging and being defeated by the goddess Ōyama Mitsuchihime—a history of being tempered by a god. He is also the founder of the technique of spirit transformation.
By the start of Part One of the story, he has already died and is only mentioned in conversations among the characters. However, eight years later in Part Two, he manifests as a ghost by possessing Taizan and appears before Tsukiko. Until Jinka Yamato hears from the Mountain God, his master had never shown his sexual side.
He believes that "evil" is a superior human trait and recognizes Tsukiko's talent for heretical arts, thus becoming her mentor. He also granted her the "Gourd," which holds the same land-draining abilities as the Thousand-Fox Spirit.
After Taizan becomes bound to the land, he transfers to a spiritual fragment of Hanatora. According to Raidō Zanzō, his behavior during this period is extremely bizarre. Following the liberation battle with the Thousand-Fox Spirit, he appears to sever his lingering regrets and vanishes—it is unclear whether he has truly found peace.
He is an old acquaintance of Yazen from the Dan Kaishu. Although he upholds "evil," during the battle between Jinka Yamato and Senya, he reveals a surprisingly caring, mentor-like side, expressing joy and sorrow at his disciple's efforts.
