Hanatora is the great land deity of the capital, known for her strong connection with humans and her refusal to wear clothes, despite being female. She is friendly towards people, especially Shinsuke Hyoudou and Ashikaga Yoshiteru, and often takes on different forms, each with unique personalities. During major events, she protected many by moving them to safety and personally trained Senya and Tsukiko for years. Hanatora’s playful nature, close friendship with the Mountain God, and the way she approaches human relationships make her a very unique and memorable character in the story.
Hanatora usually takes the form of a blonde woman, but stands out because she stubbornly refuses to wear any clothes.
In the anime adaptation, she is later made to wear clothes.
Her different split forms each have their own unique look, personality, and way of speaking.
The most commonly seen form is that of a young girl.
Hanatora is easygoing, playful, and loves being around humans.
She is very open with her feelings and is sometimes bold, even flirting with Shinsuke Hyoudou, telling him often to “hurry up and become mine.”
She sees the best in people and likes to form close bonds with them.
Because she is more like a human than most gods, she is more accepting and supportive of people.
Hanatora is a powerful land god who protects the capital and its people.
She has multiple split forms, each acting on her behalf and having their own traits.
While she is ancient and wise, Hanatora spends a lot of time interacting with humans.
She is close friends with the Mountain God and they often discuss (and joke about) their tough training methods for humans.
They sometimes tease each other, calling their approaches “harsh.”
- Shinsuke Hyoudou: Hanatora is openly fond of him and often jokingly (but sincerely) asks him to be hers. He always finds a way to deflect her advances.
- Ashikaga Yoshiteru: She shows him affection and cares about his safety and well-being.
- Mountain God: They are old friends who enjoy teasing and talking about each other’s methods involving humans, almost like mischievous best friends.
Helping After the Spirit Incident
Hanatora thanked Senya, who defeated her own crazed split spirit.
She showed her gratitude for freeing the capital from danger.
Saving People in a Major Crisis
During the major uproar known as the Eternal Peace Incident, Hanatora quickly acted to protect everyone in the Imperial Palace.
With the exception of Ashikaga Yoshiteru, Raidō Zanzō, and Shinsuke Hyoudou, she evacuated all remaining palace residents to a safe village outside the city.
Long-Term Training
After the incident, Hanatora spent eight years personally training Senya and Tsukiko, helping them become much stronger.
Choosing a New Vessel
When Taizan was bound to the land and could no longer serve, a split form of Hanatora who was near Kokugetsusai was picked to become the new vessel instead.
Friendship With the Mountain God
Hanatora shares a fun rivalry and friendship with the Mountain God (Ooyama Mitsuchihime).
They both agree that the other’s way of training humans is “cruel,” but say it jokingly, showing their mischievous friendship.
- Hanatora likes being with people more than most gods do.
- She has several split spirits. Each of them looks, acts, and speaks differently.
- The girl form of her split spirit appears the most often.
- In the anime, clothes were added to her appearance, even though she refuses them in other versions.
- “Hurry up and become mine!” (often said to Shinsuke Hyoudou)
- "That one does harsh things too..." (about the Mountain God)
