Shion Otosaka

Gentleman/Shion is mysterious person who always acts from the shadows through a digital avatar. They are a 1st year student at Shadowverse Battle College, although they take classes remotely. They were also the leader of Sixth Magic. However, due to everyone rejecting their advice due to their controlling personality, they appointed Shinobu Miki to act on their behalf in the club, following instructions through an earphone.

After a battle with Light Tenryu, they joined Seventh Flame.

Upon going to Nekome's arcade center, their true identity is discovered by Ren Kazamatsuri and Tsubasa Takanashi. Tsubasa challenges Shion to a battle and she accepts, asking her to keep her identity secret if she won. Despite winning, Tsubasa decides to keep her secret, having formed a bond with Shion, who starts to see that she is not as alone as she thought.

Gentleman is the first representative of Seventh Flame in the Shadowverse Club Tournament, facing Shinobu Miki. At first, he fears that Shinobu will hate him for manipulating her, but she remarks that she does not understand his feelings. Despite breaking down when his calculations are exceeded, Gentleman manages to pull off the win thanks to the support of his clubmates and promises Shinobu a real talk.

Shion finally appears in person to her clubmates and other club presidents when they all go to the resort on Genesis Island. This gives her enough confidence to go as herself, instead of Gentleman, to the club as well and support Light in his battle with Mikado Shirogane.

After entering the Shadowverse World Ranking along with the rest of the club, Shion/Gentleman begins to experience difficulty to even asking someone to battle with them due to their social anxiety. Gentleman then proceeds to win various battles. On the second day, seeing Warden Craft in the city and identifying him as a Grand Master, Gentleman decides to challenge him, seeing that he could win a lot of points. However, Warden turns out to be not only an amazing tactician but someone who surpasses Gentleman even in boastful attitude. After losing, Shion takes Warden's words about being alone to heart.

Gentleman/Shion finishes in fifth place in the World Ranking after defeating Shiro Kiriyama. However, they remain distant from their friends even when they are all taken to the Shadow Area for the battle against the Seven Shadows. After reaching the area where Warden is, Gentleman/Shion decides to confront him again to find the answer to whether they should be alone or with their clubmates. However, even though Ren and Tsubasa come to support them, they remains trapped in their internal conflict and her fear that their bonds will break over time. However, seeing how Ren jumps to their defense when they are about to lose, claiming that none of them are forced to change who they really are, Gentleman/Shion is able to understand that they do not need the absolute certainty that Warden claims, since they can move forward towards an uncertain future being the dubious person that they are. Thus, they manages to win, impress Warden and strengthen their bond with Ren and Tsubasa.

After supporting Light in the final battle against Hiro, Shion and the rest are taken to Genesis Corporation to stop the Shade invasion led by the Arc Ruler. To do this, they are given the Nexa System and tasked with stopping the three towers created by the Arc Ruler. Shion is shown to be the most doubtful about her role in the situation and what the Arc Ruler really is, but finally decides to help.

Shion is the one who decides that the best strategy is to divide into groups and attack all their objectives at once. When assigning the teams, Shion chooses the one who would go to help Shadoba College, but Mikado decide that it is best for Shion to stay in Genesis leading the mission, with him being the one to help at the school.

However, Shion is forced to abandon her post to stop Warden who had left the mission to fulfill his own objective. As Shion intercepts him as Gentleman, Warden forces him into a battle in which both risk their lives thanks to a program that he himself designed which added sensory feedback even through Shion's avatar. During the battle, Shion/Gentleman confronts Warden about his selfishness and disinterest in the welfare of the world, though Warden denies that his goal is the only thing that matters and unleash the power of Calamity's Genesis that he stole from Leon Aurenche. Still, Shion/Gentleman remains steadfast in their desire to preserve their bonds and future, allowing Milady to evolve into Milady, Mystic Empress, giving them the victory. Afterwards, Warden reveals that his system was never actually going to kill either of them and that the battle actually changed his perspective.

Once the world is saved from Arc Ruler and subsequently Wolfram Zerga, Shion has overcome much of her social anxiety and begins attending school in person as well as meeting with the others members of Seventh Flame on a regular basis, without the use of the Gentleman avatar.

Shion/Gentleman is a solitary and reclusive person, always avoiding any human contact and preferring to interact with their avatar. They really like rabbits, video games and chess.

By showing themself as Gentleman, they prove to be an eccentric and spontaneous person, and somewhat arrogant and short tempered. They have great knowledge about Shadowverse and sincerely seek to share it, but they have trouble connecting with others due to being overly controlling, which leads to their reclusion. They are also quite unscrupulous, spying and hacking others without remorse.

The in-game event story Frayed Flames implies that Shion/Gentleman's grandiose personality is partly a front used to push people away out of fear of being rejected. They say that they are "a heartless, selfish jerk" and that "there's nothing about to love", and believe that everyone finds them insufferable and hates them just as much as they hate themself. However, the other members of Seventh Flame assure them this is not so; in response to their kindness, Gentleman agrees to be less controlling and works out their issue with Ren.

It is seen that, due to their long time isolated, Shion/Gentleman suffers from great shyness and fear of social situations. Throughout the series, they're slowly able to overcome this by the bonds they forms with their fellow members of Seventh Flame. By the end of the series, Shion gains the confidence to start attending school and meeting with Seventh Flame in person without needing to "hide" behind the identity of Gentleman.

Shion/Gentleman uses a Runecraft deck constructed around Chess cards. Their strategy focus on swarming the board with Magical Pawns and using spells to deal damage and add cards to their hand, with Mystic King as their ace and finisher.
