Mikasa Ackerman

The heroine of this work. Age 15→19. Height 170cm, weight 68kg (at age 15). Born on February 10. Eren's childhood friend. She is a half-blood with a mother from the nearly extinct Oriental race within the walls and a father from the Ackerman family. One year before the appearance of the Colossal Titan (in 844), her parents were killed by a trio of robbers who targeted them for their rare bloodline, but she was saved by Eren and taken in by the Yeager family. As a child, she was given a family heirloom mark on her right wrist by her mother, and after being saved by Eren, she always wears the scarf he gave her. Grateful for having her life saved and becoming part of a new family, she adores Eren and sees protecting him as her mission, and she also has a deep bond with her other childhood friend, Armin. Her personality is taciturn and calm. During the incident where her parents were killed, she awakened the ability to unleash physical and mental power (the Ackerman ability), granting her physical abilities beyond those of ordinary people. During her time as a trainee, she was recognized by her instructors for her ability to handle all difficult subjects, being evaluated as an unprecedented talent in history. After the Titan invasion in 845, she joined the trainee corps following Eren and graduated at the top of her class. Although Eren himself recommended she join the Military Police, she joined the Survey Corps to protect him. Even as a new recruit, she was recognized for her exceptional strength, and it was later revealed that this ability was a trait possessed only by the Ackerman family on her father's side. She also suffers from intermittent headaches since childhood. After the world situation became clear, she was informed that her mother's ancestors were from the Hizuru nation's general family. When a special envoy from Hizuru visited, she showed the mark inherited from her mother, and was recognized as a descendant, being called the hope of Hizuru (in the anime version of this scene, she shows the mark as in the original, not embroidery). In the "Battle of Heaven and Earth," while her comrades were prepared to kill Eren, she struggled to accept it until the end, but after much hesitation and suffering, she wrapped the scarf and resolved to free Eren from his suffering. She cut off Eren's head with her own hands, gave him a final kiss, and said, "Goodbye, Eren..." sending him off. This decision ultimately severed the lingering attachment of the Founding Ymir, leading to the removal of the Titans' power from the people of Ymir. In the subsequent epilogue, she buried Eren at the base of a large tree in the Shiganshina District and continued to guard his grave. In the afterword added to volume 34 of the manga, a black-haired woman wearing the scarf is seen offering flowers at Eren's grave. As time passed, when the elderly woman passed away, she was laid to rest with the scarf. An MV featuring Mikasa and Eren was created for the official The Final Season conclusion (episode version) ED "Goodbye." Her name is derived from the battleship "Mikasa," the flagship of the former Imperial Japanese Navy during the Russo-Japanese War.
