A first-year MB at Karasuno High School. His shirt number changed from 11 to 3 in his third year. The only glasses-wearing member on the team.

The tallest player in the Karasuno High boys’ volleyball team. He is a strategist blocker who excels in staying calm more than anyone else and in grasping and analyzing the situation. Since the finals of the Spring Tournament qualifiers, he has been playing as the commander of total defense and the shield at the front lines with his clever gameplay and lead blocking. Against Tendo of Shiratorizawa Academy, who said "Blocking is about reading and instinct," he confidently responded, "Blocking is a system." He declares that a block that stops is outdated, showing an attitude that personal play is part of the team's battle. Suna from Inarizaki High said, "This is the first time I've seen such a self-effacing MB," Coach Ukai described him as "Karasuno’s Intellect," and Sugawara called him "Craftsman." He appears to disregard Hinata, who is outwardly inferior in height, intellect, and skills, but internally he fears Hinata, who possesses outstanding physical abilities and reminds him of the “Little Giant” whom his brother could not surpass.

A member of the Miyagi Prefecture first-year strengthening training camp. After the Spring Tournament qualifiers, during the Miyagi first-year select training camp, he acknowledged Hinata’s ability to "see the block" and took him as a sparring partner.

His personality is quite sarcastic, and during the 3-on-3 match staked on Hinata and Kageyama's club membership, he repeatedly made comments that were sharp enough to dig into the trauma of the two. However, Sawamura described him as having a "good sort of nastiness." Even after becoming teammates, he often clashed with the passionate Hinata and Kageyama through sarcastic remarks, often being admonished by his seniors. On the other hand, he is bad at straightforward communications and gets thrown off pace when someone honestly steps directly into his heart, causing his usual sarcasm to fade.

He usually hangs out with his childhood friend Yamaguchi (first-year) and is often called "Tsukki." His catchphrase is “Shut up, Yamaguchi.”According to Yachi, his baseline appears "not particularly energetic."

Influenced by the circumstances of his brother Akiteru, who was a senior from the era of the “Little Giant,” he initially took a cynical and dismissive attitude towards club activities and volleyball. However, his attitude started to change during the summer training camp after being sharply criticized by Yamaguchi for his backward attitude. Encouraged by words from Kuroo during their practice session, which highlighted his lack of skills making it unenjoyable, Tsukishima realized his immaturity, which seemed to have triggered his growth. In the final set of their match and despite his initial reluctance, he begins to realize his role as a blocker, witnessing the relentless spirit of Hinata, Kageyama, and Nishinoya. Although he managed to put pressure on Shirabu (the setter from Shiratorizawa) and induce a slight mishap in his toss which splendidly shut down Ushijima, ultimately in the last set, Tsukishima was personally disappointed as he only managed to effectively block Ushijima once.

During the match against Inarizaki High at the Spring High, he effectively shut down the Miyas' "twin quick strike" and persistently and calmly blocked only the cross side against Rintaro Suna’s turn spikes, providing a clue for the solution to his teammates.

Academically excellent (enrolled in advance placement classes). He teaches Hinata and Kageyama before tests, and apparently makes a ticking sound with his tongue, leading Hinata to speculate, "He’s irritated because we're too dumb." After high school, he plans to go to university, and upon graduation, aims to work at the Sendai City Museum, and is also a member of the Sendai Frogs in the V.League Division 2.
