Youm starts as a small-time delinquent who once ended up in a correctional facility, more thug than noble, but with a natural charisma and talent for leadership.
He is physically attractive in a rough, unrefined way; lacking aristocratic polish but strongly appealing and easy to like.
After release, Youm winds up in the Falmuth frontier under Count Nidor Mygum, where unwanted poor and troublemakers are dumped.
Despite being treated as expendable, he quickly gathers fellow ex-delinquents and drifters around him and becomes the leader of a thirty-man group that will become the Frontier Survey Corps.
Nidor Mygum secretly treats the corps as disposable, sending them to investigate the Orc Lord and his army in the Jura Great Forest.
Youm sees through this plan, understands they are being used as cannon fodder, but still insists on properly fulfilling the investigation request for the sake of the villagers in his homeland.
Youm is a man of rough edges but deep loyalty and sentiment; he values comradeship, repays kindness, and worries sincerely about common people.
He plans to complete the mission, then fake the corps’ deaths so they can all disappear to another country and live free from Nidor’s control.
By chance, this plan intersects with Rimuru Tempest’s strategy for human–monster coexistence.
Rimuru wants to avoid open conflict with humans, so he proposes that Youm become the “hero who defeated the Orc Lord” instead of Rimuru revealing the truth.
Youm is initially just a strong A– minus–class fighter, roughly on par with Fuze, the former A–rank guildmaster of the Blumund Free Guild branch.
Under the brutal training of Hakurou and with first-rate equipment from Kurobee’s workshop, his strength skyrockets to the level of an upper-class monster, comparable to Grucius, effectively A–rank.
Over time, Youm’s band and his heroic activities spread his fame throughout Falmuth and neighboring lands.
He travels between Tempest and Falmuth’s towns and villages, slaying monsters and safeguarding frontier settlements, gradually becoming widely known among nobles as the “hero who slew the Orc Lord Geld.”
As his bonds with Tempest deepen, Youm is invited into its inner circle and witnesses how Rimuru is beloved by monsters and allies alike.
He accepts the role of cooperative “image hero,” but his actions and growth steadily turn the fake title into something genuinely deserved.
Youm’s defining trait is his powerful charisma.
He naturally attracts people—ex-delinquents, roughnecks, nobles’ cast-offs, and even sheltered mages—into a cohesive, loyal group.
He is blunt, straightforward, and doesn’t curry favor with authority.
Despite his criminal past, he has a consistent moral core: he hates exploitation, stands by his comrades, and values gratitude and obligation.
Youm is not deeply scheming, but he is far from stupid.
He can read people’s intentions, saw through Nidor Mygum’s attempt to use him as a disposable pawn, and devised a clever plan to fake the corps’ annihilation while securing their freedom.
His leadership shines most in group operations.
He is adept at deploying each member according to their strengths and coordinating small-unit tactics to punch above their individual weight.
Even after becoming king, his “true delinquent” heart remains intact: he refuses to bow to those who threaten what he considers right.
His inner monologue toward Diablo sums this up—he recognizes Diablo as a “true villain,” someone who never grovels to power and relentlessly follows his own will, and he respects that purity of intent immensely.
From Small-Time Thug to Frontier Leader
Youm begins life as a petty criminal locked in a correctional facility.
There, he meets many others like himself—poor villagers turned delinquents by harsh conditions and lack of opportunity, rather than innate cruelty.
When released into the Falmuth frontier, these men are branded troublemakers and effectively exiled.
Count Nidor Mygum sees a use for them, forming a thirty-man Frontier Survey Corps out of correctional-facility inmates for a dangerous mission into the Jura Great Forest.
Youm is placed as the corps’ leader and quickly proves his worth.
In a short time, he turns this rabble of small-time criminals and bruisers into a semi-professional, well-coordinated unit through sheer charisma and leadership.
Nidor’s real plan is to use the corps as expendable scouts against the Orc Lord’s army.
Youm sees through this, but rather than simply running away, he chooses to complete the investigation and then find a way to escape Nidor’s control with his comrades.
Encounter with Rimuru and Becoming a “Hero”
During their mission, Youm’s group ends up fighting the Night Spider, a powerful A–rank arachnid monster.
Their situation is dire until Gobta and the Tempest wolf cavalry intervene, saving the corps and bringing them into contact with Rimuru’s nation.
Through that encounter and subsequent interactions, Youm is invited to Tempest.
He witnesses firsthand how Rimuru, despite being a slime and a demon lord candidate, is respected and loved by monsters and allies.
Rimuru, seeking to avoid worsening human–monster relations, proposes a public narrative: Youm will be recognized as the “hero who defeated the Orc Lord.”
The truth—that Rimuru and his forces defeated Geld—is hidden, and Youm becomes the human face of the victory.
Youm accepts, half out of shock and half out of respect and fascination for Rimuru.
From that day onward, he calls him “Boss Rimuru” and commits himself to playing the heroic role.
Under Hakurou’s “demon training,” Youm refines his raw talent into true swordsmanship and combat skill.
Kurobee forges for him the Dragon Slayer and Exo-Armor, equipping him to stand on the front lines as a real hero.
The Frontier Survey Corps is reborn as “Hero Youm’s Band.”
They travel between Tempest and Falmuth’s border settlements, exterminating monsters, protecting villages, and building Youm’s reputation as a trustworthy hero.
Bonds with Grucius and Mjurran
After Tempest establishes diplomatic relations with the Beast Kingdom Eurazania, Youm meets Grucius, the lowest-seat warrior of the Beast King’s elite warrior corps.
They hit it off instantly, bonding through friendly brawls, banter, and shared sensibilities, becoming “equal fight friends” and eventually lifelong comrades.
Around the same time, Mjurran secretly infiltrates Tempest under orders from the demon lord Clayman.
Through various twists, she ends up joining Hero Youm’s Band as their 32nd member, acting as their strategist and military advisor.
Youm and Mjurran grow closer as comrades, then as lovers, while Grucius half-jealously competes with Youm for her attention as a friend and rival.
Their relationship becomes mutual and sincere, even though Mjurran is still shackled by Clayman’s control and hidden mission.
The Falmuth Invasion and Tragedy
When Falmuth launches a large-scale invasion of Tempest, Mjurran, unable to defy Clayman’s commands, is forced to assist the invading army.
Her actions contribute to the massacre in Tempest, leading to enormous loss of life and rage among the monster citizens.
Overwhelmed by guilt, Mjurran becomes a target of hatred.
Youm and Grucius, fully aware of what she did and the risks, still choose to defend her from the furious Tempest inhabitants, prepared to die alongside her if necessary.
Both are gravely injured protecting Mjurran.
When Rimuru returns to Tempest and chooses to become a true demon lord in order to revive the fallen, he also frees Mjurran from Clayman’s control, severing the magical chains that had enslaved her for centuries.
Grateful for Rimuru’s mercy and the chance to save those he cares about, Youm is deeply moved.
He listens to Rimuru’s true history and motives and accepts a new, far greater role: to become the king of a human nation that will stand as an ally and bridge to Tempest.
The Human–Monster Conference
After annihilating the Falmuth invasion army single-handedly and awakening as a true demon lord, Rimuru returns with Diablo, the primordial black demon Noir newly bound to him.
The emergence of a new demon lord draws the attention of major powers: the Armed Nation of Dwargon, the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion, and other influential states.
A high-level “Human–Monster Conference” is convened.
Youm attends as the representative of future Tempest-friendly Falmuth, facing legendary rulers like Gazel Dwargo and Elalude Grimwald.
The kings and heavyweights present deliberately release their pressure to test him.
Youm feels the crushing weight of their presence, but clings to his resolve, his love for Mjurran, and his determination to fulfill Rimuru’s request.
Despite being outclassed in status and power, he doesn’t grovel or back down.
His straightforward courage and willingness to shoulder a kingdom’s fate win him respect from leaders like Gazel and Elalude.
From this point, the plan for Falmuth’s restructuring is set: instead of being destroyed outright, the kingdom will be reshaped under a new king loyal to Tempest—Youm.
He agrees to accept the crown and transform Falmuth into a nation that will stand as a bridge between humans and monsters.
Diablo’s Scheme and the Birth of Farmenas
While Rimuru attends the Walpurgis banquet of demon lords and destroys Clayman, Youm and Diablo move to execute a political drama in Falmuth’s capital.
Rimuru and Diablo had crafted a scenario: demand excessive war reparations from Falmuth to trigger internal strife among the nobility, then have Youm appear as a hero who “saves” the royal faction and is granted the throne.
Behind the scenes, the Seven Days Clergy and their shadowy masters manipulate Edward Falmuth and the nobles, feeding them convenient information and making them overconfident.
They believe they can use Youm, Diablo, and Rimuru as pawns in their own schemes.
Reyheim, the cardinal who helped orchestrate the invasion of Tempest, is used as a sacrificial stepping stone for the noble faction’s plans.
When Diablo appears in the royal palace, the nobles and Edward arrogantly denounce him and Rimuru, ignorant of who they are truly facing.
Diablo responds with overwhelming power and meticulous reasoning, exposing the real culprits and their manipulations.
He declares that he could abandon Falmuth entirely in response to their insults, essentially dooming the kingdom.
Terrified, Edward is forced to capitulate.
In exchange for Diablo and Rimuru’s continued involvement and mercy, Edward cedes the royal authority to Youm, formally abdicating in his favor.
In Youm’s eyes, Diablo is the embodiment of “true villainy”—utterly unbending, ruthless when necessary, and yet loyal to his master.
Because of this, Youm comes to respect Diablo almost as much as he respects Rimuru, recognizing him as someone who never betrays his own principles.
With the transfer of power complete, the old kingdom of Falmuth collapses as a declining, backward state that dared to despise a new demon lord and his black demon retainer.
Its territory, wealth, and future are entrusted to a hero who chose respect and cooperation instead of arrogance.
Youm ascends the throne, renames the country the Kingdom of Farmenas, and takes the name Youm Farmenas as its first king.
Once just a petty delinquent stuck in a frontier backwater, he rises to become a “Hero King” who carries the hopes of both Tempest and his own people.
Combat Level
At the beginning, Youm is a self-taught warrior with a combat strength roughly equal to Fuze, an ex–A–rank adventurer and head of Blumund’s Free Guild branch.
He fights using a heavy greatsword style, swinging large blades with ease thanks to his physical power and straightforward fighting instincts.
His official class is “Warrior (Fighter).”
He is not a master swordsman at first, but he possesses strong basic attributes and battle sense.
His greatest asset is not raw power but coordination: he can effectively deploy his comrades to cover his weaknesses and maximize their strengths.
In terms of pure individual strength, he would be considered A– minus class at the start of his Tempest involvement.
After undergoing Hakurou’s severe training, Youm’s technique improves dramatically.
Hakurou’s teaching focuses on speed and technique, meaning that without mastering the appropriate “arts,” students are overwhelmed and beaten one-sidedly.
Although the specific sword arts Youm learns are not fully detailed, he clearly assimilates enough of Hakurou’s teachings to keep up with high-level fighters.
By the time he first fights Grucius seriously, he can battle on equal terms, placing him solidly at A–rank or higher.
With his special-grade equipment, his durability and output increase further, allowing him to stand alongside upper-class monsters.
Even so, in a straight duel against top-tier beings he is outmatched; his true strength lies in leadership and team tactics.
Leadership and Tactical Ability
Youm’s tactical mind is primarily intuitive and people-oriented rather than scholarly.
He excels at reading his companions’ personalities and skills and organizing them into an effective fighting force.
He places great emphasis on trust and clear roles, so his band can move quickly and efficiently during operations.
This same leadership translates into governance when he becomes king, helping him manage internal affairs and delegate responsibilities to his former comrades.
He also shows political flexibility: he can accept advice from smarter strategists like Mjurran and diplomats like Lonmel without ego.
Rather than cling to status, he readily steps back or steps up depending on what the situation demands for the greater good.
Dragon Slayer (Zanryu Goto)
The Dragon Slayer is a special-grade greatsword forged for Youm in Tempest after his old greatsword is destroyed fighting the Night Spider.
It is designed for combat against large magical beasts and high-end opponents.
The blade side is sharpened purely for cutting, capable of slicing through tough hides and armor.
The opposite “strike” side is reinforced for smashing and impact, letting Youm crush or batter enemies that are resistant to cutting.
Structurally, it resembles an oversized sword with aspects of a gigantic blade-like cleaver, optimized for both chopping and bashing.
The hilt is handsomely decorated, befitting the public image of a “hero,” and enhances his presence on the battlefield and in the eyes of the common people.
Exo-Armor (Gaikou Full Armor)
Exo-Armor is a full-body armor set crafted using the Night Spider’s exoskeleton as the main material.
It is a special-grade defensive gear tailored for Youm.
Though it looks like a classic full plate armor set, it weighs only about one-third of a normal metal full plate, significantly reducing fatigue and allowing greater mobility.
Despite its low weight, it is extremely durable and boasts high magical resistance derived from the Night Spider’s natural defenses.
Inside, a mesh inner suit woven from “steel spider thread” reinforces the armor and provides thermal protection, making it resistant to both heat and cold.
Over time, the armor gradually molds to the wearer’s movements, improving comfort and responsiveness.
Aesthetically, the armor is dark brown with green and red patterns forming a distinctive tricolor design.
It is beautiful enough to be considered a work of art, and it becomes the visual base for the unified armor design of Hero Youm’s Band.
Formation and Evolution
The original Frontier Survey Corps is created by Count Nidor Mygum using inmates from a correctional facility.
It is a thirty-man unit intended as a disposable force to investigate the Orc Lord and his army in the Jura Great Forest.
Under Youm’s leadership, this ragtag group of ex-delinquents, thugs, and marginal figures is rapidly transformed into a structured and reasonably disciplined team.
Youm also organizes pre-mission groundwork, having some comrades infiltrate the Free Guild to gather their own intelligence independently of Nidor.
Among the initial members is Lonmel, a young mage assigned as a “monitor” and handler for the corps by Nidor.
Through a staged performance involving illusions and trust games orchestrated by the illusionist Jagi, Lonmel is tricked, then persuaded to join them wholeheartedly.
The corps’ plan is to fulfill the investigation mission and then fake their deaths on the frontier.
By doing so, they aim to deceive Nidor and gain true freedom, potentially fleeing to another country.
Fate shifts when they receive Rimuru’s invitation to Tempest.
After completing and submitting a basic report to Nidor to formally end their contract, they cut ties with him and remold themselves as “Hero Youm’s Band” with Tempest as their powerful backer.
They then travel through villages and towns along the Jura Forest border, hunting monsters and protecting people as the anchor of a carefully crafted “hero image” strategy.
Their activities bolster local safety, spread Youm’s fame, and cement Tempest’s indirect influence while easing tensions between humans and monsters.
Later, Mjurran joins as the 32nd member, becoming their strategist and advisor.
Grucius is not a formal member but functions as a semi-guest, semi-partner, often working alongside them.
The band’s equipment is standardized to convey unity and professionalism.
Most receive bright green scale mail based on mass-produced versions of the armor once gifted to the adventurer Cabal, while lighter, more mobile members like thieves wear hardened red leather armor derived from the design made for Gido.
Lonmel is given black steel spider-thread robes (a color variant of the Spider Robe once given to Ellen) and a magic-silk suit crafted by Shuna.
For mobility, the band is supplied with B+–rank unicorns as mounts, allowing rapid movement across the frontier.
To streamline communication and avoid constant back-and-forth with the Free Guild, Rimuru mass-produces communication crystals and distributes them through the villages.
Combining unicorn speed, crystal-based communication, and coordination with Gobta’s wolf cavalry, they dramatically increase the efficiency and turnaround of monster-extermination operations.
After Youm becomes king, several core members of the band become his close aides and de facto ministers, handling various aspects of governance.
The band’s spirit, however, remains intact: they are still a group of former outcasts who gained purpose by protecting others.
Main Members
Kazil – Deputy, Thief
Kazil is Youm’s long-time deputy and a professional thief-type specialist.
He is not the sharpest in terms of abstract reasoning, but he has unwavering trust in Youm and can flawlessly execute any plan or order Youm devises.
Like most of the corps’ original members, Kazil comes from poverty and social exclusion.
He was driven into delinquency after being pushed to the margins of village life and then the frontier, becoming a “villain” more by circumstance than innate malice.
As a member of Hero Youm’s Band, Kazil finds deep satisfaction in helping others and being thanked as part of a “heroic” group.
He becomes genuinely proud of his work, forging friendly relationships with both Tempest citizens and the villagers they protect.
Jagi – Illusionist (Maya)
Jagi is one of the original members and serves as the group’s illusionist and occult magic user.
His skills with illusions and mind tricks are rare and valuable, making him a key asset to Youm.
Youm trusts Jagi not only as a comrade but as a crucial specialist.
Their mutual reliance showcases Youm’s ability to recognize talent and integrate unconventional abilities into his plans.
At the start of the mission, Jagi helps pull off a crucial gambit.
Using his illusion magic and the solidarity among the correctional-facility comrades, he stages a psychological ploy to corner Lonmel and convince him to switch sides.
This act leads to the removal of the restrictive contract magic placed on the corps, giving them the first real step toward freedom.
Without Jagi’s contribution, the corps might have remained bound to Nidor’s leash and possibly perished as intended.
Lonmel – Sorcerer
Lonmel is a young sorcerer who graduated from Falmuth’s magic academy and then entered the service of Count Nidor Mygum as a formal magic professional.
He initially accompanies the Frontier Survey Corps as a watchdog and official supervisor.
Physically unimpressive and with a gentle demeanor, Lonmel is easily overwhelmed by rougher personalities and real combat pressure.
Although he has mastered elemental and inscription-based magic and is technically a first-rate mage, his inexperience and timidity prevent him from using his full potential.
After being caught in Jagi’s illusion and Youm’s staged “performance,” Lonmel realizes Nidor’s disregard for the corps’ lives and begins to question his allegiance.
Youm’s charisma, straightforward honesty, and willingness to trust him convince Lonmel to join the corps for real.
Once he is truly accepted and given clear responsibilities, Lonmel finds the courage to use his abilities effectively.
He ends up serving as both a combat mage and a negotiator/diplomat, thanks to his education and polite manner.
He becomes one of Hero Youm’s Band’s central members, especially valuable in negotiations with villages, nobles, and other authorities.
After Mjurran joins, Lonmel gladly concedes the role of primary strategist to her, and in turn learns extensively from her experience, growing even further.
Lonmel’s transition—from timid watchdog of a corrupt noble to trusted confidant of a rising hero king—captures one of Youm’s greatest strengths: his ability to pull out the best in others and give them a place to belong.
