Mai Sakurajima

The heroine of Volume 1 and the main heroine of the series. She has long black hair, usually styled with rabbit-shaped hair clips and pins. She also has a rabbit-eared case for her smartphone.

She used to live alone in the apartment opposite the one where Sakuta and Kaede live. From the end of Volume 4, her half-sister Nodoka Toyohama moves in with her.

She is a third-year student in class 1 at Minegahara High School and is one year senior to Sakuta. A nationally renowned actress from her childhood, she debuted in a popular morning drama series at the age of six, receiving acclaim for her acting skills. She continued to succeed in subsequent roles and also worked as a model and in commercials. However, during her middle school years, a forced gravure shoot by her mother, who pushed her into the entertainment industry, soured their relationship, leading her to declare a hiatus from entertainment activities upon entering high school. She didn't start attending school regularly until the second term and struggled to fit in due to her fame. Nevertheless, she enjoyed acting and, encouraged by Sakuta, returned to the entertainment industry (though with a different agency than the one her mother set up for her). She quickly resumed receiving offers for dramas, movies, and commercials, maintaining her popularity.

She is serious, polite, excels academically, and is good at cooking, showing great consideration in various aspects. On the other hand, she has a bit of a queenly demeanor, often teasing Sakuta or making snide remarks. She can quickly detect when Sakuta is keeping secrets, showing a mature ease in subtly guiding him. However, she also shows typical girlish traits, such as fretting over what to wear or how to style her hair when meeting Sakuta, hiding her embarrassment, and feeling dissatisfaction even when she rationally understands Sakuta's feelings towards others like Kaede or Shoko.

In Volume 1, Sakuta confesses to her, and they start dating from Volume 2. In Volume 3, she casually informs her manager, Ryoko Hanawa, that she has a boyfriend, leading to a dating ban from her agency. However, in Volume 4, when Sakuta supports Nodoka, who has transformed into Mai, they are photographed together by the media (who are unaware of the switch between Mai and Nodoka), resulting in a scandal. This subsides after she publicly acknowledges her relationship at a press conference for a starring movie. Since then, they continue dating discreetly, occasionally visiting Sakuta's house to cook.

In Volume 8, she graduates from Minegahara High School and is accepted into the International Liberal Arts department of her desired university. She takes a year off to support Sakuta's studies while working, and resumes her studies when Sakuta joins the same university. Despite being busy with work and university, she maintains a successful relationship with Sakuta and often visits his parents' house in Yokohama.

She ranked 4th in the 2018 edition, 6th in the 2019 edition, 4th in the 2020 edition, and 5th in the 2021 edition of "This Light Novel is Amazing!" in the female character category.
