Character Setting

Edit

Miach is the head god of the Miach Familia in the series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, a gentle male deity inspired by the healing god Miach from Celtic mythology who runs a perpetually broke, potion-focused, small commercial Familia in Orario.

Miach is a male god residing in the city of Orario and serving as the patron of the Miach Familia, a minor, commerce-oriented group specializing in medicine and potions.

His voice actor in the anime adaptation is Makoto Furukawa.

Originally, the Miach Familia used to be a moderately well-known, mid-tier Familia with stable prospects.

However, a massive debt incurred to save one of his children, Naaza Erisuis, caused the Familia to fall into severe decline and near-ruin.

Miach is depicted as a handsome young male god with long navy-blue hair and finely shaped, beautiful facial features.

He wears a calm, gentle expression and tends to carry himself in an unassuming, relaxed way.

As a god, Miach is unusually mild-tempered and kind, treating both men and women with sincere warmth.

This genuine compassion is widely recognized, so even those who might be jealous of him rarely hold a real grudge.

Like Takemikazuchi, he unintentionally wins the affection of many women in Orario.

The difference is that everyone understands Miach is simply kind by nature, not flirting, so his popularity is mostly met with resigned acceptance rather than hostility.

Naaza Erisuis, who was saved at great cost by Miach, loves him not only as her god but also as a man.

She is extremely jealous, yet she finds it hard to stay angry at him because she knows his kindness is never malicious.

Miach’s character concept is based on the healing god Miach from Celtic mythology.

In keeping with this origin, he is deeply associated with medical knowledge, treatment, and the use of potions.

He focuses on healing and support rather than combat, and his Familia mirrors this by centering its activities on potion making and medical services.

This emphasis on care and healing also shapes his relationships with other gods and Familia in Orario.

The Miach Familia is a small, commercial-type Familia active in Orario.

By the time the main story begins, it is effectively a tiny, struggling group with only Naaza Erisuis as captain and sole member on paper.

Miach’s Familia specializes in producing potions and other medicinal items.

However, its finances are chronically disastrous because Miach frequently distributes these potions to acquaintances, often for free or nearly free.

The Familia’s downfall began when Naaza lost her right arm to a monster.

To save her, Miach turned to the Dian Cecht Familia to create an artificial arm, incurring an enormous debt in the process.

That debt crushed what had been a stable mid-tier Familia, and most of the other members left, leaving only Naaza behind.

Miach accepted the loss without regret, believing that saving Naaza’s life was all that truly mattered.

Despite the debt, Miach continues to hand out potions to people such as Bell Cranel and many other acquaintances.

This drives Naaza to constant despair over their budget, as the Familia is perpetually on the verge of financial collapse.

Later, after the Apollo Familia loses a War Game against the Hestia Familia and is dissolved, former members Daphne Lauros and Cassandra Illion join the Miach Familia.

Miach even reaches out to another former Apollo member, Ruan, but Ruan rejects the invitation.

Hestia and the Hestia Familia

Miach is on very friendly terms with Hestia, another weak but close-knit Familia leader.

They often cooperate during crises, and along with Takemikazuchi and Hephaistos, they frequently discuss problems affecting Orario and their children.

When Hestia becomes upset after seeing Bell Cranel walking with Liliruca Arde while she still belongs to the Soma Familia, she ends up drinking heavily.

Miach quietly keeps her company during this bout of drunken jealousy.

Miach is also one of the few gods Hestia trusts enough to consult privately.

In volume 9 of the main story, she confides in him about the existence of the Xenos, making him one of the gods aware of these so-called “monstrous children.”

During the Hestia Familia’s expedition, Miach joins forces with Takemikazuchi to form an alliance of small Familia.

He sends members of his own Familia to participate and supports Hestia’s group in various incidents.

Takemikazuchi

Miach and Takemikazuchi share the status of being popular, “unintentional lady-killer” gods, admired by many women in Orario.

Takemikazuchi is sometimes called a “natural gigolo,” while Miach is seen as irresistibly kind rather than flirtatious.

Their relationship is close and comfortable, and they often work together in collaborative efforts.

After the fall of the Ishtar Familia in the mobile game story Memoria Freese, Miach and Takemikazuchi cooperate to help stabilize the red-light district.

There, they distribute amazake (a sweet fermented drink) to help prostitutes gain new skills and livelihoods, attempting to improve public order and give the women a fresh start.

At one point, the two of them even engage in a playful “evil magistrate” role-play game, revealing that Miach, for all his gentleness, is still a god hungry for entertainment.

Naaza Erisuis

Naaza Erisuis is Miach’s devoted child, captain, and the only long-term holdout when the Familia collapsed under debt.

She lost her right arm to a monster attack, and Miach’s desperate attempt to save her is what plunged the Familia into financial ruin.

Miach asked the Dian Cecht Familia to craft a prosthetic arm for Naaza, accepting massive debt as the price.

Once Naaza’s life was no longer in danger, most of the rest of the Familia members left, but Miach never blamed them.

He is satisfied simply that Naaza survived.

Naaza, in turn, deeply loves him, both as a god and as a man, and becomes fiercely jealous over any perceived rivals.

Despite that jealousy, she cannot truly resent him for being kind to others, as she knows it is simply his nature.

However, their relationship is not without conflict.

When Naaza starts selling poor-quality potions at normal prices to Bell Cranel, effectively exploiting him, Miach is furious.

He sees it as a betrayal of trust and of the integrity he wants the Familia’s medicine to represent.

Once he learns that Naaza’s actions were driven by anxiety over the Familia’s finances, his anger softens.

Bell and his friends also step in and offer their own support, and the matter is ultimately forgiven and left in the past.

Dian Cecht Familia and Amid

The Dian Cecht Familia, led by the god Dian Cecht, is another medical Familia in Orario and a major competitor to Miach.

Dian Cecht himself bears a one-sided grudge against Miach.

Despite being treated as a rival and even an enemy by Dian Cecht, Miach does not personally dislike him or his Familia.

He respects their skill and is willing to work with them when necessary.

On the day of the “Grand Day” festival and later when Bell Cranel is gravely injured while protecting Ryuu Lion, Miach assists in treatment.

He works alongside Naaza and Amid, the captain of the Dian Cecht Familia, to provide healing for the wounded.

This collaboration hints at a history where Miach and Dian Cecht’s side have treated patients together before.

There are also hints that despite their efforts, there were some patients they could not save in the past, leaving emotional weight between them.

In the third season OVA (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III: Is It Wrong to Try to Find a Hot Spring in Orario? -Bath God Forever-), Miach reacts differently.

When the Dian Cecht Familia forcibly steals a lucrative job, he finally shows clear displeasure and even organizes an infiltration operation to address it.

Other Interpersonal Dynamics

Miach’s wide-reaching kindness attracts affection from many women across Orario.

Unlike other male gods, who might stir rivalry or resentment, Miach’s demeanor makes people shrug and say “it can’t be helped with him,” even among male gods.

Many gods and adventurers implicitly trust him because he does not exploit his position or his popularity.

At the same time, his tendency to give away potions and resources keeps his Familia in a perpetual state of crisis.

He often appears in gatherings of deities, especially alongside Hestia, Takemikazuchi, and Hephaistos.

These groups frequently discuss how to protect their children or manage dangerous developments in the city and in the Dungeon.

Early Story and Everyday Involvement

In the early arcs of the story, Miach is typically seen on the sidelines, interacting with Hestia, Takemikazuchi, and Hephaistos.

He provides counsel, emotional support, and medical aid when needed.

He becomes one of the gods aware of the secret existence of the Xenos (intelligent monsters) after Hestia consults him in confidence in volume 9.

This knowledge places him among the small circle of deities who truly understand the scope of Orario’s hidden issues.

Miach often supports Bell Cranel indirectly, primarily through Naaza’s potions and his own willingness to help.

His medical expertise and willingness to assist without demanding payment make him a quiet but critical ally.

Faction War (Factions War)

In volume 18, during the large-scale conflict known as the Faction War, Miach and his Familia join the coalition of allied Familia opposing the Freya Familia.

Naaza and other Miach Familia members fight as part of this alliance.

When Allen Fromel leads the elite group known as the “Stout Warriors” (Einherjar) in an assault, Miach and Hestia narrowly escape thanks to a deodorizing agent Naaza prepared.

They withdraw to the western side of the ancient ruins city of Orza to carry out a task only gods can perform: updating their children’s Status.

There, Miach holds the injured Naaza in his arms and updates her Status while she suffers from wounds inflicted by the third of the Gulliver Brothers, Bering.

Immediately afterward, however, Allen unleashes his high-speed magic, Glaryneze Fromel, sending out a shockwave.

The blast scatters the flower Miach wears on his chest, symbolizing his elimination from the “game-like” divine engagement.

Even so, the efforts of Miach, Naaza, and the others up to that point contribute significantly to the coalition’s eventual victory over the Freya Familia.

Rescue of the Loki Familia

During the mission to rescue members of the Loki Familia after the events involving the Dragon’s Valley, Miach once again plays a supportive role.

Under the direction of Hedin Selland, who takes overall command, Miach waits in a medical staging area adjacent to Babel’s treatment facilities.

After Bell Cranel returns from the Dragon’s Valley, Hedin magically forces Bell to sleep in order to ensure his rest and recovery.

At Hedin’s snap of the fingers, Miach and Naaza appear on site and move Bell to a prepared bed.

To guarantee Bell’s deep and peaceful sleep, Miach burns angel grass (Alzerica) to fill the area with a calming aroma.

He also activates the “Nemunemu Argos,” a self-playing grass-flute-type magic item developed by Asfi Al Andromeda to combat insomnia, ensuring Bell can properly recover.

In the mobile game Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? – Memoria Freese, Miach appears in original side stories.

Following the destruction of the Ishtar Familia, he works with Takemikazuchi to stabilize the red-light district.

They distribute amazake to the women there and create chances for prostitutes to learn new skills and move toward more stable livelihoods.

This initiates efforts at both social support and crime prevention in the area.

During these events, Miach and Takemikazuchi engage in “evil magistrate” play-acting, teasing out the more playful side of Miach’s personality.

It shows that, beneath his saintly healer image, he is still a god who craves amusement and lighthearted fun.

In the OVA Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III: Is It Wrong to Try to Find a Hot Spring in Orario? -Bath God Forever-, Miach becomes upset when the Dian Cecht Familia forcibly takes over a job.

This is one of the rare times he visibly shows his displeasure and takes proactive, somewhat mischievous action via a covert operation.

Miach embodies self-sacrificial compassion and the theme of “kindness even at personal cost.”

He willingly trades his Familia’s prosperity and his own comfort to save Naaza and to help others with medicine and potions.

His approach to healing is holistic: he cares about emotional wellbeing as much as physical recovery.

This is clear in how he looks after Bell Cranel’s rest, Hestia’s emotional distress, and the prostitutes’ futures in the red-light district.

He is also a rare example of a male god whose popularity with women does not revolve around seduction or ego.

Instead, he becomes a focal point of trust and quiet respect, even from gods like Dian Cecht who outwardly oppose him.

Through Miach, the story explores what it means for a god to genuinely prioritize the happiness and survival of their children.

His ongoing financial troubles, caused by that same kindness, underline the costs of compassion in a harsh world like Orario.
