Satoshi Horio is a first-year student at Seishun Gakuen, known for his vast tennis knowledge but comically poor practical skills.
Height: 151cm
Weight: 47kg
Birthday: September 25th
Blood Type: O
School Year: 1st Year
Dominant Hand: Right
Playstyle: All-Rounder (in his own mind)
Satoshi is easily recognizable by his flashy and ostentatious tennis wear. He loves to stand out, even if his skills don't quite match his vibrant look.
He is a braggart with a loudmouth personality, often boasting about his self-proclaimed two years of tennis experience. Despite being a show-off, he has a surprisingly compassionate and loyal side.
Satoshi is also secretly a diligent and studious person, though he tries to hide this aspect of his personality. According to Sadaharu Inui, his academic performance in school is poor.
Satoshi is a first-year student at Seishun Gakuen and a classmate of Ryoma Echizen. He has an older brother (or cousin in the OVA) named Junpei Horio, who has two years of cycling experience.
Satoshi possesses an extensive wealth of technical tennis knowledge, but he lacks the practical skills to apply it. His ideal playstyle is an "All-Rounder," but his actual ability is very low.
In the simulation game *SWEAT & TEARS 2*, he takes over data collection duties from Sadaharu Inui after the third-years graduate. Even so, he, Kachiro, and Katsuo are perpetually stuck as the bottom three in the team's rankings.
Worse yet, the rankings include female players like Sakuno Ryuzaki, meaning he is considered less skilled than members of the girls' team. He even loses decisively to the game's female protagonist, a complete beginner with only good stamina, suggesting that in "superhuman tennis," physical prowess trumps experience.
Satoshi is part of the "Freshman Trio" along with Kachiro Kato and Katsuo Mizuno. Taichi Dan later groups them together as the "Ryoma-kun Cheering Trio," which also includes Katsuo Mizuno.
He shares a friendship with his classmate Ryoma Echizen, but also harbors a one-sided rivalry with him. Ryoma, however, pays him no mind.
In the anime, he and Ryoma are shown to have a good-natured friendship, often eating lunch together.
Tokyo Metropolitan Tournament
During the tournament, Ryoma was running late for a match. Satoshi was given a Seigaku regular's jersey and stood in for Ryoma during player registration to avoid a default.
Carried away by the authority of the uniform, he put on airs and acted like a big shot. This "fox borrowing the tiger's skin" attitude ultimately led him to cause some trouble.
The New Prince of Tennis (OVA)
Satoshi was asked to deliver a package to Ryoma at the U-17 training camp. At the entrance, he met fellow first-years Taichi Dan and Shīta Urayama, and the three ended up working as handymen at the camp.
He quickly became an expert on the camp's inner workings, knowing where spare supplies were kept and the logistics of food deliveries. He earned the trust of not only Taichi and Shīta but also the older players.
This is where he revealed a more diligent side, secretly using his "Horio Note." This notebook contained detailed information about the camp's layout, as well as the habits, behaviors, and routines of the senior players.
He is extremely embarrassed by this studious habit, believing it doesn't fit his character, and tries to keep the notebook's existence a secret. Unfortunately for him, Ryoma accidentally discovered it and saw its contents.
