Gensai Oguni

The elderly doctor affiliated with the Kamiya Dojo runs the Oguni Clinic. He was acquainted with the doctor who was making opium with Megumi as his assistant, which is how he knew about Megumi. Later, he takes Megumi in as his assistant. Initially, he showed a lecherous and frivolous side, such as patting Megumi's rear, but thereafter he remained serious throughout, even advising Kenshin when he went to fight Raijuta. In the original work, the name "Gensai" does not appear, and this aspect is original to the first anime adaptation (this name is also used in the second anime adaptation). In the first anime adaptation, he appears from the first episode and is set to have a thirty-year relationship with the Kamiya Dojo. Due to being set as a parental figure to Kaoru, he has more appearances than in the original work, and the lecherous aspects present in the beginning are removed, replaced by many scenes where he encounters misfortune. He also knew information about the Sekihoutai. Additionally, he has an identical sister named Hana (voiced by Tomie Kataoka) who lives in Izu.
