Belial is a female demon lord in Seven Mortal Sins, known as the first heretical sin, the Demon Lord of Vanity, and the former leader of the Seven Mortal Sins.
Belial is a lady of the prestigious Barndale family.
She presents herself as one destined to stand at the summit, carrying herself with extreme pride and arrogance.
Despite her lofty self-image, the other demon lords regard her with clear coldness.
That gap between how she sees herself and how others see her is one of her defining traits.
As the former head of the Seven Mortal Sins, Belial held enormous authority.
She is haughty, overbearing, and theatrical, always trying to assert superiority over everyone around her.
She also has a deeply calculating side.
Rather than relying on brute force alone, she schemes, manipulates, and exploits others to maintain control.
When Lucifer invaded, Belial cornered her using the power of Gnosis.
She slashed Lucifer’s wings and inflicted the Seven Curses, stealing away her magic power.
Ironically, that act became the trigger for Lucifer’s rebirth as a demon lord.
From that point on, Belial’s hatred only intensified as Lucifer defeated one demon lord after another.
Belial responded with increasingly desperate schemes.
She abducted Maria Totsuka and even manipulated Satan into fighting Lucifer.
Even so, she failed to stop Lucifer from entering Hell.
Her actions also caused the other deadly sins to begin turning against her.
Later, she tortured those sins who had rebelled and sided with Lucifer.
She also captured Lucifer after her defeat in Cocytus.
Belial was originally an angel named Satanael.
In the past, she served God by delivering miracles to humans.
However, those miracles ended up corrupting humanity instead of guiding it.
Because of that, Lucifer cast her down from Heaven, and Belial developed a lasting desire for revenge.
After her fall, she bowed her head to the other deadly sins while secretly deceiving them.
Through that deception, she rose to become the leader of the sins.
While revealing her past, Belial tortured Lucifer and announced her true objective.
She intended to make a deal with Michael: Hell would be annihilated, and she would be allowed to return to Heaven.
To do this, she abandoned her position as leader of the sins.
But that move unintentionally freed the demon lords from the torment she had imposed on them, leaving her cornered.
Belial then used the angelic blood she had absorbed from Maria Totsuka.
By regaining angelic power, she overwhelmed the demon lords of sin and crucified them.
She attempted to force Maria Totsuka to kill Lucifer by crushing her heart in her hand.
When Lucifer charged toward her blade, Belial believed at last that her long revenge had succeeded.
But it was a trick.
Lucifer had only staged the moment in order to switch hearts with Maria Totsuka, and Belial was completely deceived.
Furious, she confronted Lucifer once more.
During that battle, Lucifer revealed that it was God, not Lucifer, who had truly caused her fall.
Belial could not accept that truth.
Insulted and shaken, she tried to destroy the very Lucifer who defied God, but by then Lucifer had regained her power and utterly defeated her.
When Michael appeared in Hell, Belial pleaded to be taken back to Heaven as promised.
Michael coldly informed her that Heaven would never make a pact with a demon lord in the first place.
Abandoned and betrayed, Belial still attempted to fulfill her role as a demon lord by fighting Michael.
She even managed to destroy one of Michael’s holy wings of light.
That small victory was not enough.
Belial was defeated and cast down to the human world.
