Franky

Franky has light blue, pompadour-shaped hair and large sideburns.

His body is highly modified and mechanical, with a prominent metal nose and a chin split in three (which the creator calls a "butt chin"). His forearms are extra thick, like Popeye, and feature a blue star tattoo on each side.

He stands out because of his height—tall even among the Straw Hats—being 225cm before the time skip and 240cm after it.

His left shoulder has "BF-36" stamped on it, referring to his Battle Franky series of warships.

Over the two-year time skip, he upgraded himself into an even more massive, mechanical form. His arms are now giant square columns, his shoulders become bright red spheres with "BF-37" painted on them, and his hands can reveal tiny inner arms for delicate work.

Franky almost always wears a colorful, open aloha shirt and dark speedo-style swim trunks, refusing to wear pants regardless of the situation. Even when his trunks are stolen, he boldly stands naked.

In the Egghead Arc, he finally wears a futuristic bodysuit and shoes, giving him a rare fully-clothed appearance.

Franky refers to himself as "ore" or "ore-sama" (both very macho).

He can appear rough and acts like a thug, but is actually generous and truly cares for his friends—he often cries easily and freely, especially when hearing about someone's sad past. He even improvises songs on a guitar when moved.

Everyone calls him a "weirdo" because of his near-nakedness and bizarre inventions, but Franky considers it a compliment and loves it when people use the word.

Despite his tough looks, he is warm-hearted, easily approachable, and a natural big brother figure.

He’s very intelligent, with broad knowledge of mechanics and planning—making him the "secret intellectual" of the Straw Hats.

Franky has no financial sense, often spending any savings right away and throwing parties for his followers.

He fears nothing, and even when embarrassed (like being stripped in public), he remains proud and unshaken.

Although serious when necessary, he likes watching and joining fistfights, showing a real "man's spirit" that wins Luffy's deep trust.

Franky was born as "Cutty Flam" in the South Blue to pirate parents who abandoned him at age 10 in the Grand Line.

Living as a street kid, he survived by building weapons from scrap.

One day, Tom the fish-man shipwright took Franky in. There, Franky earned his nickname from his older apprentice Iceburg and lived with Tom, Iceburg, beautiful secretary Kokoro, and the sumo frog Yokozuna.

He clashed often with Iceburg, choosing to build his Battle Franky warships for fun.

When Tom was put on trial for building Gol D. Roger’s ship, he was granted a 10-year reprieve to build "sea trains" that could save Water 7. When the sea train Puffing Tom was finished, the city became prosperous.

Later, Tom was tricked and arrested due to Spandam framing Franky's warships for a government attack. In deep regret, Franky denied his creations, angering Tom, who taught him that a builder must always love his ships, no matter what.

Tom was ultimately sentenced to death, and trying to stop the sea train, Franky was run over. He survived, rebuilt himself as a cyborg from junk, and returned to Water 7 to secretly protect the town as the boss of the Franky Family.

He maintained uneasy friendship with Iceburg, always watching over his home from the shadows.

Franky is an elite shipwright, able to build or fix ships, bridges, and even complicated structures using available junk. He also invents advanced machines and weapons, running his cyborg body on cola as fuel.

As a cyborg, Franky’s body is often described as "super!" He built powerful gadgets into himself, such as:

• Cannon arms (with detachable rocket punch attacks)
• Hidden guns in his fingers and mouth
• Fire breath, laser beams, and air cannons
• A built-in refrigerator for cola
• Transforming legs and centaur mode
• Pop-out shields, missile launchers, and more

His only weak point is his back, which couldn't be fully modified, leaving it vulnerable.

In the New World, he upgrades to "BF-37 Armored Franky," gaining even greater strength, new tools, and the iconic "Franky Radical Beam" laser as well as a "Franky Nipple Light."

Franky is the one who built the Straw Hats’ ship, the Thousand Sunny, out of the legendary wood "Treasure Tree Adam." The ship has many features: a Gaon Cannon, Soldier Dock system, mini-ships, fun features like an aquarium bar and a library, and much more.

Franky also created mighty war machines like the Franky Shogun, a giant robot made from combining other vehicles, so he can fight much bigger enemies.

Fighting Techniques

Franky’s fighting style is "Strong Style," taking his opponents’ attacks head-on.

• "Strong Hammer": A heavy metal punch.
• "Franky Boxing": Combo punches.
• "Coup de Vent": An air cannon blast from his arms.
• "Weapons Left": Missiles from his left arm.
• "Franky Radical Beam": A powerful laser that melts steel.

If he runs out of cola, his power goes down. If he drinks other liquids, his personality and hairstyle change.

• Tom: His mentor and a father figure, whom he loves and deeply respects.
• Iceburg: His older apprentice and friend, sometimes rivals, but with strong mutual respect.
• Straw Hat Pirates: Franky is closest to Usopp when building or fixing; he’s also very brotherly toward younger or more delicate crewmembers, and is usually the life of the party.
• Franky Family: His group of loyal street thugs who helped push him forward during the Water 7 arc.
• Robin Nico, Luffy D. Monkey, Zoro Roronoa: All key allies and friends; he admires Luffy for his spirit and Robin for her kindness.

• Franky's birthday is March 9 (in Japanese, "3-9" sounds like "cyborg").
• His blood type is XF.
• Star sign is Pisces.
• Favorite foods are hamburgers, fries, and anything that goes with cola.
• He dislikes soft foods like marshmallows and curry made by people he doesn't trust.
• His favorite color is light blue; image animal is a bull; theme country is America; theme flower is anemone.
• He sleeps from 1am to 9am, bathes every three days.
• In the Straw Hat crew, he's compared to a "Dad (delinquent)," but this changes to "Weird Old Lady" after Jinbe joins.
• His bounty rose from 44 million Berries to 94 million, then to 394 million Berries after leaving Wano.
• His pirate flag is a skull with a blue pompadour and half is mechanical, with crossed saw and hammer.

Water 7 Arc

Franky leads the Franky Family in Water 7, living as a craftsman and street boss.

His group robs Usopp of 200 million Berries needed to fix the Going Merry, angering the Straw Hats, and creating a fierce rivalry.

While clashing with Luffy, Franky shows off his weird strength and gadgets.

He later helps Usopp realize the Going Merry’s true condition and tells him about the legend of ships loved by their crews.

Franky and Robin Nico are captured by government agents CP9, leading to their joint rescue at Enies Lobby.

Learning the truth of Robin's heart, Franky destroys the ancient weapon blueprints he inherited, earning the crew’s trust.

He defeats the CP9 agent Fukuro in an epic fight and ultimately helps save Robin from Spandam, burning away his old regrets.

After the Going Merry’s final farewell, Franky purchases "Treasure Tree Adam" and—urged by friends, enemies, and crazy antics—officially joins the Straw Hats by building the Thousand Sunny and setting off with them.

Thriller Bark Arc

Franky supports the group by repairing bridges and collaborating on crazy plans, showing his fun-loving spirit.

Sabaody Archipelago Arc

He meets the legendary Rayleigh Silvers, learning about Roger’s crew (Tom’s favorites).

When the Straw Hats are scattered by Bartholomew Kuma, Franky ends up in the snowy Future Land of Baldimore, Dr. Vegapunk’s homeland.

After blowing up Vegapunk’s house by pressing a forbidden button, Franky finds secret blueprints for new weapons, beginning a 2-year upgrade.

New World: Fish-Man Island Arc

Franky meets Tom’s mermaid brother Den and hands over all Tom’s past.

He builds bonds with Jinbe and learns more about the struggles for peace between humans and fish-men.

He debuts the Franky Shogun, thrilling the crew with its ridiculous power, and helps in the defeat of enemies.

Punk Hazard Arc

Franky is captured and body-swapped with Chopper Tony Tony, leading to a wild adventure as he manages to fight even in another body.

He saves children, defeats bad guys, and unleashes Franky Shogun and Radical Beam.

Dressrosa Arc

Franky teams up with dwarves, defeats Senior Pink in a manly strong style fight, helps destroy the evil factory, and is loved as a hero.

His shocking wanted poster features the Franky Shogun robot instead of himself.

Zou Arc & Wano Country Arc

Franky operates undercover as “Franosuke the Carpenter” in Wano to help the plan against Kaido.

He repairs many ships for the coming battle, and in the raid on Onigashima, he battles Flying Six member Sasaki.

Despite Franky Shogun being destroyed, Franky wins with Radical Beam.

After the final fights, he cares for and carries the injured Zoro Roronoa to safety.

Egghead Arc

Franky heads to Egghead Island, fights against new weaponized clones (Seraphim), and gets half-turned into stone by S-Snake, but is later freed.

He helps defend Luffy D. Monkey and even knocks out a Marine Vice-Admiral in one punch with his chain-rocket "Strong Right."

Franky plays a key role in the Straw Hats’ escape from naval assault.

• Franky’s dream is to build and ride on the ultimate ship, watching it reach the end of the sea with his friends.
• If Franky had joined Roger’s crew as a child, he might have reached Laugh Tale, but his dream to see his own ship go all the way wouldn’t have come true.
• Some fans theorize about his parentage due to his backstory and hints concerning known pirates.
• His dependency on cola as fuel remains a fun and weird part of his character—how his cola never goes flat is unexplained!
