Minatomo is known as a legendary carpenter in the Land of Wano. He is famous for building the mansion of Kaido on Onigashima. Franky once became his apprentice to get the mansion’s blueprints, but after finding out Minatomo had pawned them years ago, they had a huge fight, leading to Franky’s dismissal. Later, after the big battle on Onigashima, Minatomo made up with Franky and Usopp and helped fix the Sunny and Franky Shogun. Minatomo shares his last name with a carpenter from an earlier manga SBS, but they are not the same person and are not related.
There are no specific descriptions of Minatomo’s height, weight, or other physical features in this text. However, Minatomo is known to look very similar to the carpenter "Minatomo" who appeared in a previous SBS corner of the manga.

The Legendary Carpenter of Wano
Minatomo was once called a legend among carpenters in Wano. He built Kaido’s mansion on Onigashima and trained many apprentices.
Franky’s Apprenticeship and the Lost Blueprints
Franky wanted the blueprints for Kaido’s mansion, so he became Minatomo’s apprentice. After several weeks, Minatomo finally revealed that he had pawned the blueprints 10 years ago. Franky was furious, and they had a huge brawl. The apprentices joined the fight. Afterward, Franky parted ways with Minatomo.
After the Battle on Onigashima
When the great battle on Onigashima ended, Minatomo made up with Franky and Usopp. Together, they repaired the Thousand Sunny and the Franky Shogun.
The Yamato Cover Story
In a cover story, Yamato visited Kuri and was told that Minatomo was missing. He had been kidnapped by the remaining members of the Beast Pirates, who wanted him to build their hideout. Yamato defeated them and freed Minatomo and some local girls.
Minatomo shares his name with a craftsman introduced in a previous SBS of the manga’s Volume 7. In that SBS, the author explained away a continuity error by saying a carpenter called "Minatomo" couldn’t help but fix broken doors. Later, readers asked if Minatomo in Wano is the same person. The author clarified that although they share the same last name, they are not the same person, and they are not related by blood.
In the anime, Makino’s bar door remains broken instead of being fixed as in the manga.
- Minatomo calls Franky "Fraky" as a nickname.
- Fights among Minatomo’s apprentices are known as a local tradition.
