A mage with unkempt hair and a black mask covering his mouth. Before the start of the Royal Knights Selection Exam, he severely injured Zax, the vice-captain of the Purple Orca, and stole his Magic Knights' robe to impersonate him and participate in the exam, teaming up with Asta and Mimosa.

He specializes in "Ash Magic," using ash to draw magic circles that activate under certain conditions, creating trap magic. He frequently uses this to draw magic circles on the terrain or objects, which activate under specific conditions to counter and reflect the opponent's magic. This counter trap magic is a heretical magic developed through human effort over a long history, and elves, beings from 500 years ago, are unaware of its existence. Setting up large-scale trap magic requires time and magical power, but by placing magic circles in the air, he can also set traps in the air, and the reflected magic can mimic the effects of the magic it reflects. Furthermore, he uses the characteristic that magic formulas created with weak magical power do not disappear, allowing him to create physical objects with them over time, despite originally having little magical power.

He has a condescending attitude, provoking opponents' emotions during matches, setting traps without regard for teammates, and mercilessly insulting defeated opponents. However, his statements often hit the mark, leaving most, including Asta, unable to rebut.

As a child, he was a quiet and reserved boy who admired his father, the first commoner to become a Magic Knight and join the Purple Orca after much effort. However, his father was killed by a noble colleague who disliked commoners becoming Magic Knights. Since then, he has spent his days beating up Magic Knights who abuse their power. During this time, he met Yami, who took a liking to him and allowed him to join the Black Bulls, though he was treated as a ghost member and even fellow Black Bulls members like Magna and Luck were unaware of his existence.

In the Royal Knights Selection Exam, he initially had a non-serious attitude, but was moved by Asta, who spoke of the same values as his father, and ended up cooperating with him, albeit reluctantly. After drawing with Langris's team, he reflected on the need to trust his teammates more.

He had no intention of passing the Royal Knights Selection Exam, but Julius, who appreciated his trap magic and knowledge, suggested he could wear his own squad's robe. As a result, he passed the exam and joined the Royal Knights as a member of the Black Bulls, acting under the name Zora and calling Asta "shorty junior."

During the Royal Knights' raid on the Eye of the Midnight Sun's hideout, he fought alongside Mereoleona and Asta against the Third Eye's Liar, calling Mereoleona a "monster" and "beast" for her overwhelming advantage. After Liar and four other elves launched a reincarnation magic attack, Mereoleona helped them escape, and Zora told Asta not to waste Mereoleona's resolve. Asta's persuasion led to a combined attack by five elves, and Zora reappeared in front of an unconscious Mereoleona, using his counter trap magic to quadruple the magic and retreat with Mereoleona.

After the elf incident, he returned to Clover Kingdom with Asta and Nozel, where he encountered Yami and scolded him for being irresponsible. He appeared before Noelle and Nozel of the Silva family, using his counter trap magic to save them from an elf attack and doubling Noelle and Nozel's attacks to defeat the elves.

After the elf turmoil, he resumed training alone but agreed to teach Magna his techniques when approached. During the training, when Dante raided their hideout, he hid in the bushes and held back Magna from emerging. He later joined Magna and Jack in their fight against Dante, watching over Magna's victory and then reuniting with the Black Bulls members to head to Yami. When Lucifero manifested, he protected Asta with Nero, blocking Lucifero's attack.
