Ui Hirasawa is a female character from K-ON!, best known as Yui Hirasawa’s exceptionally capable younger sister and later a guitarist in Sakuragaoka High School’s Light Music Club.
Ui is voiced by Madoka Yonezawa.
She is the younger sister of Yui Hirasawa, and she attends the same Sakuragaoka High School as her sister.
Although Yui is carefree and often lazy, Ui is diligent, polite, considerate, and famously good at looking after others.
She is so competent that the Light Music Club members often treat her as the “ideal younger sister.”

Class history: Class 1-2, then Class 2-1; her third-year class is unknown

Guitar in K-ON! highschool: Fender Japan ST-57 Stratocaster type
Image color: Green in the original work
Relationship: Younger sister of Yui Hirasawa
Age relation to Yui: Described as Yui’s younger sister by one school year, with some material noting a two-year age gap due to Ui being born early in the year.
Ui usually wears her hair in a ponytail tied with a yellow ribbon.
She has kept this hairstyle since childhood, making it one of her most recognizable features.
When she lets her hair down, she looks almost exactly like Yui.
At one point, when Yui caught a cold, Ui disguised herself as Yui and appeared before the Light Music Club members.
Almost no one realized it was Ui, except Sawako Yamanaka, who noticed the difference in chest size.
In the anime, Sawako specifically says Ui’s chest is larger than Yui’s.
In the original manga, the difference is mentioned more vaguely, and Mio Akiyama and Ritsu Tainaka are not even sure which one is larger.
Ui is serious, well-mannered, thoughtful, and extremely reliable.
She is the type who reads instruction manuals carefully and practices properly instead of rushing in blindly.
Her personality contrasts strongly with Yui’s relaxed and scatterbrained nature.
Even so, Ui also has a cute, innocent, and friendly side, much like her sister.
She usually calls Nodoka Manabe politely in front of others, but privately still calls her “Nodoka-chan,” just as she did when they were younger.
Ui is also a little lonely at heart.
When Yui went away on a school trip, Ui missed her so much that she cried, and Azusa Nakano and Jun Suzuki ended up staying over with her.
Ui deeply loves Yui and finds happiness in seeing her sister smile.
She constantly takes care of Yui’s daily life, from housework to study support, often saying “It can’t be helped” while happily helping anyway.
Despite Yui’s laziness, Ui never complains about caring for her.
Their sisterly bond is so strong that it is often described as near-doting affection.
Ui’s character song, “Lovely Sister LOVE,” also emphasizes her intense affection for Yui.
Still, Ui is not simply dependent on her sister.
After Yui begins living away from home, Ui appears to give her more space and gradually grows more independent.
In K-ON! college, when Yui returns home during summer vacation, Ui is shown to be more excited about reuniting with Nodoka Manabe than about Yui’s return.
This suggests that Ui is slowly but surely learning to live beyond her role as Yui’s caretaker.
Ui is often portrayed as almost unbelievably capable.
She handles household chores in place of her frequently absent parents and is skilled at cooking, cleaning, and general domestic work.
Her cooking is especially impressive, and she later provides homemade cakes and sweets for the Light Music Club’s tea time.
This role effectively replaces the elegant snacks once provided by Tsumugi Kotobuki.
Ui is also academically strong.
She teaches test material to Yui, who is one grade above her, and helps her avoid failing marks.
Her musical talent is just as striking.
After only a few days of practice, Ui becomes better at guitar than Yui, shocking the people around her.
She once plays organ along with Azusa’s guitar and Jun’s bass.
After joining the Light Music Club, even experienced guitarists like Azusa and Sawako are surprised by her natural ability.
One especially comic example comes when she plays a part composed by Nao Okuda that supposedly requires six fingers.
Ui plays it normally, leading Nao to remark that “Hirasawa-senpai is like a robot,” which Ui seems to mind a little.
Ui also has surprising physical instincts.
At a batting center, she once copied the swing of a nearby customer by observation alone and hit a home run.
Ui enters Sakuragaoka High School after Yui and is placed in Class 1-2.
She becomes classmates with Azusa Nakano.
While Yui is still attending the school, Ui does not join a club because she is busy handling household responsibilities.
Even without being an official club member, she often supports Yui and the Light Music Club.
After Yui and the others graduate, Ui enters her third year and joins the Light Music Club together with Jun Suzuki.
Her assigned part is guitar, while Azusa continues as an experienced guitarist and Jun plays bass.
Ui aims to attend university and studies for entrance exams together with Azusa and Jun.
However, she is not necessarily fixed on attending N Women’s University, which surprises Sawako.
Sawako had assumed Ui would do anything to follow Yui there.
In K-ON! highschool, Ui becomes an official Light Music Club member after entering her third year.
She plays guitar and uses a Fender Japan ST-57 Stratocaster-type instrument, unlike Yui’s Les Paul-style guitar.
Even so, Ui shows hints of the same unusual sensibility as Yui.
At a music shop, she calls a Les Paul cute and asks Azusa for advice on how to name a guitar.
Ui’s musical progress is almost supernatural.
She can reproduce chords after hearing them once, and she handles impossible-looking parts with calm precision.
During club tea time, Ui serves homemade sweets and cakes to the club members.
This gives the new Light Music Club a warm atmosphere similar to the one Yui’s generation enjoyed.
In K-ON! college, Ui appears when Yui returns home for summer vacation.
Her appearance shows how her life continues while Yui is away at university.
She seems less fixated on Yui than before and shows genuine joy at seeing Nodoka Manabe again.
This moment highlights Ui’s quiet growth and hints at a healthier distance from her beloved sister.
Ui is also notable for appearing meaningfully in both K-ON! highschool and K-ON! college, excluding photos, flashbacks, and cameo-style appearances.
She is the only character who appears in that kind of episode-involved role across both works.
Ui was added to Kirara Fantasia as a free event character in the 2018 event “Miyako and the Cat Song.”
She appears as a 4-star Knight with the Sun attribute.
Her main class is Knight, and her short recast class skills make her good at drawing single-target attacks.
Her biggest point of interest is her rare position as a Sun-attribute Knight.
Among 4-star Sun Knights, she was one of only four characters of that type by the time the game’s service shutdown was announced in November 2022.
The others were Sonya Christmas, Lamp Sports Day, and Harumi Hot Springs.
Even a permanent 4-star Sun Knight was never added, making the category unusually limited.
Many 5-star Sun Knights were seasonal limited characters such as swimsuit or Christmas versions.
Because Ui could be obtained reliably through event revival systems or exchange items, she remained useful for players who lacked other Sun Knights.
She was also the only 4-star Sun Knight among those characters who never received another version, whether permanent or limited.
Because of her intense affection for Yui, Ui is often depicted in fan works as having sister-complex tendencies.
Some fan creations pair her with Yui in yuri-themed stories.
A darker fan interpretation, sometimes called “Black Ui,” portrays her as jealous of anyone who gets close to Yui, especially Azusa.
In those works, Ui may become possessive or even yandere-like.
This is not how Ui behaves in the original story.
Canonically, Ui is kind, gentle, and happy when Yui is happy.
She also genuinely likes Azusa as a close friend, and later material suggests that she is gradually achieving a healthy kind of independence from her sister.
