He is quite timid and self-deprecating, to the point where he even addresses his classmate Aomine with "san" and uses polite language. He frequently apologizes, saying "Sorry" at every opportunity. Because of this, Hyūga nicknamed him "Apology Mushroom."

He excels at quick-release shots that are difficult to block and has earned the trust of his teammates as Tōō's "Shock Trooper." Additionally, as a shooter, he is extremely competitive and his shooting accuracy improves the stronger his opponent is.
