Misery

Misery is one of the first demons ever born, referred to as one of the "Primordial" demons and specifically as the Primordial Green.

She currently serves Guy Crimson as his devoted maid and high‑ranking subordinate.

In ancient times she and Rain once challenged Guy Crimson in battle and suffered a crushing defeat.

Due to the nature of Primordial demons, such overwhelming loss imprinted absolute submission to the victor, leading her to later serve Guy.

After Guy incarnated into the world, he summoned Misery for menial tasks and granted her a name.

Receiving a name allowed her to evolve into a demon duke, further solidifying her position as one of Guy’s key retainers.

Her appearance is that of a beautiful woman with green hair.

She usually wears a dark crimson maid outfit that emphasizes her role as Guy’s personal maid.

Her name "Misery" is derived from the expression of a human face twisted in pain.

This origin reflects the darker, cruel imagery associated with high‑class demons like the Primordials.

She is voiced by Yuki Hirose in the anime adaptation.

Her role expands significantly in the light novels, especially from volume 6 onward.

Misery has sharp intuition and a diligent, hardworking nature.

She is meticulous in her duties, both as a maid and as a commander of her subordinates.

Compared to Rain, who is more carefree and overly relaxed, Misery is serious and responsible.

She often sighs at Rain’s carelessness but still trusts her deeply as a colleague serving the same master.

Despite her strict and capable exterior, Misery has a strong tendency to spoil Rain.

She does this mostly unconsciously, treating Rain with indulgent leniency.

Because of this, she gets along better with Misora, Rain’s own vice‑captain, than with her own vice‑captain, Karn.

Both Misery and Misora share the habit of enabling Rain’s behavior rather than curbing it.

Guy occasionally criticizes Misery for coddling Rain too much.

However, Misery remains mostly unaware of her bias, and Rain’s reckless actions often end up producing good results, which only reinforces Misery’s support.

Over time she practically becomes Rain’s biggest cheerleader, much to Guy’s exasperation.

Underneath this, Misery is essentially a heavy "siscon"–type character, extremely indulgent and protective toward Rain.

Her loyalty to Guy Crimson is nonetheless unwavering.

Even when she makes choices Guy finds questionable, her decisions are always rooted in loyalty and concern for his interests.

Misery is one of the Primordials, the oldest and most powerful class of demons.

Among them she holds the title of Primordial Green, making her a being of terrifying potential.

Guy Crimson himself is the Primordial Red, and while they are of the same original class, Misery is not considered to be on Guy’s level.

The difference in strength is so great that her old attempt to challenge him with Rain ended in total defeat.

As a named demon who evolved into a demon duke after being named by Guy, Misery possesses immense magical power and combat ability.

She also commands subordinates known as the Green Apostles, a mercenary group placed in human society to monitor and gather information.

Later, when she visits the monster nation with Guy, Misery receives a further evolution.

Rimuru Tempest grants her souls as a reward, allowing her to awaken and evolve into a demon king–class being (sometimes described as a "demon lord–type" demon), significantly elevating her already high status.

Misery is an exceptionally competent maid who handles a wide range of tasks for Guy Crimson.

She is methodical and efficient, from logistics and intelligence reports to hosting and etiquette at high‑level gatherings.

When she visits the monster nation alongside Guy, Misery learns how to bake cake directly from Shuna.

This is because Guy develops a fondness for Shuna’s cake and orders Misery to obtain the recipe and master the technique.

Misery faithfully complies, adding high‑quality confectionery skills to her already extensive domestic capabilities.

This domestic role coexists with her identity as a high‑tier demon, giving her a unique "deadly maid" persona.

Misery’s loyalty to Guy Crimson stems from the absolute defeat she once suffered at his hands.

Primordial demons who are utterly crushed in battle have a nature that drives them to submit to the victor in subsequent incarnations.

After that total loss, Misery chose to serve Guy without hesitation.

Guy summoned her upon his incarnation, named her, and entrusted her with various tasks as part of his inner circle.

She respects Guy both as a supreme ruler and as someone she owes her current status to.

Receiving his name and evolving into a demon duke deepened her bond and sense of duty.

When Misery learns that Rimuru Tempest has named and recruited other Primordials such as Diablo and Testarossa, she reports this to Guy immediately.

This information significantly affects how both she and Guy view Rimuru, forcing them to acknowledge him as a major player.

Guy occasionally scolds Misery for her indulgent attitude toward Rain.

Even then, Misery does not waver in her loyalty, balancing devotion to Guy with emotional attachment to Rain.

Rain is Misery’s fellow Primordial and colleague under Guy Crimson.

The two share a long history, including their failed joint challenge against Guy in ancient times.

Misery is the more serious and reliable of the pair, while Rain is more frivolous and easygoing.

This contrast often leads Misery to act as the responsible "older sister" figure.

Despite her complaints about Rain’s behavior, Misery deeply trusts her.

She is quick to cover for Rain and tends to excuse or justify her actions.

Misery unconsciously pampers Rain, allowing her to get away with things she would not tolerate from others.

This tendency resembles a strong sister complex, where she cannot resist indulging Rain.

Because Misory spoils Rain so much, she bonds especially well with Misora, Rain’s vice‑captain.

Both of them form a kind of "Rain support squad," amplifying the problem Guy complains about.

In volume 6 of the light novel, Misery greets Rimuru Tempest and his group when they arrive to attend the Walpurgis–style gathering of demon lords.

Upon returning to the White Ice Palace, she casually tells Rain that "Clayman is going to die," demonstrating both her sharp insight and frank way of speaking.

Initially, Misery’s contact with Rimuru Tempest is indirect, through reports and the presence of his subordinates at high‑level meetings.

Her attitude shifts significantly after she personally encounters Rimuru’s power and influence.

In volume 11, Misery is summoned to the council meeting of the Western Nations by her Green Apostles.

There she encounters Testarossa, who is attending as a representative of the monster nation.

Misery is stunned to realize that Testarossa is actually Primordial White.

Furthermore, Testarossa has been named and has evolved into a demon duke under Rimuru Tempest.

Recognizing that even a Primordial like Testarossa has become Rimuru’s subordinate, Misery immediately prioritizes reporting this to Guy.

She withdraws without forcing a fight, understanding the strategic importance of this development.

Later, in volume 14, Misery accompanies Guy on a visit to the Monster Federation founded by Rimuru.

During this visit Rimuru personally grants Misery souls.

This gift allows her to awaken and evolve further, effectively raising her to a demon lord–class demon.

Misery sincerely expresses her gratitude to Rimuru, acknowledging his generosity and strength.

From that point, Misery holds Rimuru in high regard as a being capable of recruiting Primordials like Diablo and Testarossa and empowering demons such as herself.

Her respect adds weight to Rimuru’s standing even from the perspective of the oldest demons.

The Green Apostles (Vert) are a mercenary organization primarily active around the Kingdom of Ingracia.

They worship Misery as a "Green God," although to Misery they are nothing more than disposable tools.

From Misery’s perspective, the Green Apostles exist mainly to monitor human society and gather information.

Their religious reverence for her does not particularly move her; she treats them as replaceable assets.

At one point, they cooperate with the five elders of the Rosso family to carry out a major plot.

Their plan involves summoning Misery into the middle of a Western Nations council session to assassinate the primary representatives.

The summoning succeeds, and Misery appears at the council.

However, the plan goes wrong because Testarossa, serving as a delegate of the Monster Federation, is present at the same meeting.

Misery immediately senses danger upon recognizing Testarossa as Primordial White.

When she learns that Testarossa has been named by Rimuru and has evolved into a demon duke, Misery is shocked.

Recognizing that this is not the time for a forced battle, Misery prioritizes intelligence and retreats.

Her sudden withdrawal leaves the Green Apostles confused and emotionally unstable.

Some members, unable to accept the situation, recklessly attack Testarossa.

They are easily defeated, with their assault turning into a one‑sided slaughter.

After these events, the remnants of the Green Apostles are absorbed into a new secret organization called the Three Drunk Sages (Riega).

This group is formed under the influence of Rimuru’s forces and comes under the control of his subordinates.

Girard

Girard is the leader of the Green Apostles and is an A‑rank‑over combatant.

He commands the mercenary group and plays a central role in their alliance with the Rosso family elders.

He takes part in the plan to summon Misery in the middle of the Western Nations council meeting.

His goal is to use their "Green God" to eliminate the top representatives attending the session.

Although the summoning itself is successful, the presence of Testarossa completely derails the plot.

Misery quickly decides to withdraw, prioritizing her report to Guy over the assassination.

The sudden retreat causes Girard to panic.

In his confusion and desperation, he attacks Misery’s perceived opposition, only to be swiftly subdued by Moss, Testarossa’s subordinate.

During this chaotic confrontation, Girard hears Misery address Testarossa as "Blanc" and realizes Testarossa’s true identity as Primordial White.

This revelation drives him into a state of madness.

Afterward, Girard survives and ends up becoming a subordinate of Souei.

He later rises to become one of the executives of the secret organization Three Drunk Sages (Riega).

Ain

Ain is a member of the Green Apostles and an A‑rank‑over elemental user (Elementaler).

She specializes in spirit manipulation and commands around one hundred subordinates in combat operations.

At one point, Ain leads her unit into the underground labyrinth of the Monster Federation for investigation.

There, she and her team challenge the dungeon but are defeated by Rimuru and his allies, who are using temporary bodies (avatars).

Later, Ain participates in the Western Nations council assault plan.

She helps carry out the summoning of Misery during the council session, using her abilities to support the ritual.

The summoning is successful, but the strain on Ain’s body is huge.

She burns through a large portion of her lifespan and loses consciousness as a direct consequence.

Like Girard, Ain eventually comes under the authority of Souei.

She then becomes one of the executives within the secret organization Three Drunk Sages (Riega), now functioning under Rimuru’s broader sphere of influence.
