Holder of the Future Diary: Indiscriminate Diary
The protagonist of the story. A second-year student at Sakurami City Middle School. He gets caught up in Deus's game, which he thought was a figment of his imagination, and becomes involved in a deadly battle among Future Diary holders. He overturns a death prediction (DEAD END) in his fight against Hiyama and miraculously kills his opponent instead, making him a prime target for other Future Diary holders. Initially uninterested in becoming a god, his goal was merely to survive, but after his reconciled father is killed by John Bacchus, he decides to aim for godhood alongside Yuno.
Originally a lonely and timid boy who feared getting hurt and preferred to be an observer. He is quite a crybaby and tears up easily, but he can also show bravery in battles against other Future Diary holders. His flaws include getting carried away and being too trusting, making him easy to deceive by other Future Diary holders. Around the time he defeats the 7th, his mother is killed by his father (albeit accidentally), and his father is also killed by John Bacchus's subordinate, leading him to resolve to 'become a god and revive his parents (and the victims of the Future Diary battles).' After this decision, he adopts a much more extreme personality, executing plans that involve killing enemies and dragging innocent people into the conflict.
His hobbies are keeping a diary and playing darts. He always carries darts with him and uses them as weapons in battles against other Future Diary holders, destroying Hiyama's and Tsubaki's diaries. Currently, he lives with his mother after his parents' divorce, but she rarely comes home, so he is often alone.
His cell phone, the "Indiscriminate Diary," has the ability to predict the future around him indiscriminately. Originally, it was a hobby where he wrote down what he saw, but it was transformed by Deus's power. It contains the most information among all the diaries, but because he always tried to be an observer, it has the flaw of not writing anything about himself. Additionally, since it relies on his subjective information, if he perceives something incorrectly, the future displayed will also be incorrect.
Regarding Yuno Gasai, he understands that she cares for him and tries to protect him devotedly, but her stalking and mysterious nature cause him to have mixed feelings of fear and affection. Besides Yuno, he had a crush on his classmate Moe Wakaba in his first year of middle school. During his battle with Tsukishima, he becomes Yuno's official "boyfriend" out of necessity, and later, during his battle with Kurusu, he clearly confesses his love for her. Even though he didn't understand why he loved her until the end, he realizes his true feelings in the dream world where Yuno had confined him, and they have sex a day earlier than planned, led by Yuno. He was a virgin until he was with Yuno and did not use contraception.
He defeats all the other Future Diary holders except Yuno and is close to becoming a god, but he becomes disheartened upon learning that 'the dead cannot be resurrected.' He is further devastated by Yuno's true identity and purpose but still follows her into the past to confess his love. Even when Yuno tries to sever ties with him, he struggles to save her and escapes the dream world with the help of the second Murmur. He tries to become Yuno's place by letting her kill him, but in the end, Yuno spares him, and he becomes a god. Having lost Yuno, he loses the will to recreate the world and spends 10,000 years in sorrow. Eventually, he is saved by Yuno, who shares her memories with him, and the story ends with them going to see the stars together. In the anime version, it ends with a hint that he will be saved by the diary, and the final scene is depicted in "Redial."
In the third world, his parents' relationship seems to have improved, and he is dating Moe Wakaba, spending time with his parents. Originally, the third world shouldn't exist unless the one who became a god redoes the past, but due to Minene's interference, who time-traveled with Yuno, the Future Diary plan itself disappears, causing the causal law to completely collapse, establishing a world entirely different from the second.
In the May 2007 issue of 'Monthly Shonen Ace,' in the 'Hanako and the Future Diary of Fables' story, he visits the Aso Detective Agency from the author's previous work 'Hanako and the Terror of Fables' to consult about Yuno's stalking.
His name originates from Jupiter, the chief deity of the Capitoline Triad and the sky god.
