Lotus Whomalt is a laid-back, middle‑aged mage who often acts casual and joking, even in dangerous situations.

Behind that easygoing front, he is a highly experienced combatant whose abilities are acknowledged even by Julius Novachrono, the Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom.

He fought Yami Sukehiro in the past and was defeated so badly that a large scar remains across his chest.

For Lotus, this battle is a lingering trauma, while Yami barely remembers him and casually dismisses the incident when Lotus tries to show the scar.

Lotus is married and has three daughters, whom he truly loves and cherishes.

However, as his daughters grow older and more distant, their colder attitude toward him quietly hurts his feelings, even though he tries to laugh it off.

On the surface, Lotus is relaxed, slippery, and a bit of a clown, constantly cracking light comments and calling himself an “old man.”

Lotus first appears during the dungeon exploration near the border between the Clover and Diamond Kingdoms.

He leads a Diamond Kingdom exploration and combat squad sent to secure the ancient magic and treasure hidden inside the ruin.

On the way, his presence is detected by Luck Voltia, who immediately attacks.

Luck easily wipes out Lotus’s subordinates, but Lotus uses the time they bought and his smoke magic to corner and nearly defeat Luck.

Just as Lotus is about to finish Luck off, Asta and Noelle Silva arrive to help.

Lotus shifts tactics, trapping them inside his smoke and attempting to slowly grind them down rather than relying on a quick kill.

Despite his careful strategy, the combined teamwork of Asta, Noelle, and Luck breaks through his magic.

Lotus is badly injured in the process and appears to retreat in a panic, taking his remaining soldiers and fleeing from the dungeon.

However, this “retreat” is actually a bluff.

Using his invisibility‑type smoke magic, Lotus secretly makes his way to the treasure hall, where he collects both the dungeon’s spoils and the defeated Mars, who had lost to Asta and was lying badly wounded.

He successfully escapes with Mars and the treasure, proving he is far from a simple coward and fully worthy of his “Lotus of the Abyss” reputation.

Kiten Border Invasion

Later, Lotus serves as vice commander in a Diamond Kingdom invasion force attacking the border town of Kiten.

He maintains communication with three of the Diamond Kingdom’s Eight Shining Generals, updating them on the battle situation while moving independently.

When William Vangeance activates his massive World Tree Magic, Lotus immediately senses the overwhelming threat it poses.

Seeing an opportunity, he attempts to capture William, the captain of the Golden Dawn, to turn the tide in the Diamond Kingdom’s favor.

Before he can complete this plan, Yami Sukehiro intervenes and blocks him.

Confronted by the man who scarred his chest and does not even remember him, Lotus briefly tries to assert their history, only to be brushed off by Yami.

Realizing that facing Yami and the Clover Kingdom’s forces would be suicidal, Lotus abandons the capture attempt at once.

He withdraws rapidly, then later returns to the Diamond Kingdom to report the details and strategic information he gathered from the battlefield.

Involvement with the Spade Kingdom and Morris

After the events in the Witch’s Forest, Mars returns to the Diamond Kingdom.

Following internal upheaval and the rise of dangerous research, Lotus and the scientist Morris ultimately flee the Diamond Kingdom and defect to the Spade Kingdom.

There, they become involved in the plan to create the Tree of Qliphoth under the rule of the Dark Triad of the Spade Kingdom.

Lotus helps advance Morris’s project, which aims to reshape the world through the power of devils and forbidden magic.

During the process, Lotus gradually realizes that the world Morris is trying to build would be a twisted, inhuman place.

He understands that in such a world, his beloved family could never live peacefully or smile freely.

Driven by this realization, Lotus turns against Morris, siding with Dorothy Unsworth to try and stop him.
