Captain of the "Black Bulls." A muscular, large man with unkempt hair and a stubble beard. A heavy smoker, he hardly ever takes the cigarette out of his mouth, even during combat. Although he always looks sleepy and has a brusque attitude, he has the charisma to lead and be admired by the members of the Black Bulls, who are all misfits. In fact, many of the members owe him a great debt that has significantly impacted their lives, and they follow his reckless orders out of deep respect.

Originally from the island nation across the sea, "Land of the Sun." He took the blame for a crime committed by his younger sister, Ichika, and fled the country on a fishing boat, eventually drifting to the Clover Kingdom after a shipwreck. Initially persecuted due to racial and cultural differences, he rose to prominence at the age of 14 without yet having received a grimoire, and reigned as the boss of a band of thieves—an unconventional background. After receiving his grimoire, he was discovered by Julius, then the captain of the "Grey Deer," joined the squad, and climbed to his current position through military exploits. For this reason, he is respectfully referred to as "Julius's man."

A user of "dark magic" that can generate gravitational forces, he wields a sword enveloped in dark magic to deliver powerful slashes, earning him the nickname "God of Destruction." He can also read "ki" to predict an opponent's movements and uses reinforcement magic to enhance his physical abilities, compensating for the slowness of dark magic and even matching the speed of light magic. His magic can interfere with the underworld, allowing him to inflict physical damage on demons.

He took a liking to Asta, who aspires to be the Wizard King despite having no magical power, and welcomed him into the Black Bulls.

During the battle between Julius and Licht (Patri), he quickly responded to Marx's call and rushed to the scene, only to arrive just in time to witness Julius being fatally wounded by Licht (Patri). Julius entrusted everything to him with his last words.

When the elf reincarnation magic was activated, he fought against Marx and Owen, who had been possessed by elves within the Clover Kingdom. He later joined forces with Jack and Finral and headed to the royal capital, where they met up with Nozel at the entrance to the royal palace. In the Shadow Palace, he teamed up with Charla, who had been possessed by Charlotte, to fight the demon Zagred. His dark magic proved effective against the demon, and with Charla's support, he inflicted a fatal wound on Zagred with his Mana Zone "Dark Cloaked Dimension Slash - The Otherworld," while also supporting Asta and the others from the shadows.

After defeating Zagred, he appeared with the members of the Black Bulls on the Black Bull's vehicle to disrupt the trial that Damnatio had manipulated to prosecute Asta and Secre, recognizing Secre as a member of the Black Bulls and giving her a robe.

In the anime-original six-month training arc, he faced off against the Devil Punishers. He had met the Queen of the Heart Kingdom once before, who had already seen hints of his potential for growth. He also participated in a captains-only crystal battle royale, teaming up with Nozel, Jack, and Kaiser, but the match ended in a draw when his Dark Cloaked Dimension Slash - The Otherworld destroyed the crystals of both teams within Dorothy's dream magic. He recommended Asta, Nero, Noelle, Finral, and Luck for training under the Spirit Guardians of the Heart Kingdom, and later approved Magna's strong request to join.

After six months of training, he intervened in the battle against Dante of the Dark Triad of the Spade Kingdom, who was incapacitating the Black Bulls members one by one, fighting alongside Asta. Using the Mana Zone technique he had mastered during his training, he boldly confronted Dante and, combining his new powers with Asta's, defeated him. However, he was immediately restrained by Zenon's bone magic and, already incapacitated, was kidnapped along with Vangeance to be used as a sacrifice to create the Tree of Qliphoth, and was taken to the Spade Kingdom. During this time, he was unconscious but was awakened by the voices of his squad members, smiling as he remembered the past. He was nearly used as a complete manifestation vessel for Lucifero but was saved by Asta and revived by Grey's magic. Vangeance handed him a sword imbued with all his magic, and he saved Nacht from a crisis, fighting alongside Nacht against Lucifero, who acknowledged his strength. He then joined Asta and Yuno in a serious battle against Lucifero. He attempted to defeat Lucifero with a coordinated attack with Nacht but was fatally wounded by arms that sprouted from his back. Saved by Asta, who had mastered true demon assimilation, he supported Asta with his remaining strength. He nearly died alongside Nacht but was saved by Mimosa's magic. He then officially handed over his sword to Asta.

At Asta's knighting ceremony, he was puzzled by Charlotte's sudden avoidance of him following the Spade incident, and was shocked when Finral, who was by his side, told him that Charlotte had confessed to him when he was near death (he had never been the recipient of romantic feelings before and had thought the unique "ki" Charlotte directed at him was physiological revulsion).
