Owner and head chef of the ocean-going restaurant "Baratie." Former captain of the Cook Pirates.

Born in the "East Blue." Age 65→67. Birthday is April 2nd. Height 189 cm. Aries. Blood type XF. Favorite food is spicy chicken wings.

The man who hammered cooking and leg techniques into Sanji. Known for his "good hair" braided into three parts and his "Clear Sky Splitting Cook Hat" which is so tall its top cannot be seen. He has an aggressive nature that spares neither subordinates nor customers, but he is deeply respected by his cooks. Knowing the fear of losing food at sea from past experiences, he shares food with anyone hungry, no matter how villainous they are. During his pirate days, he never allowed his crew to touch food even if they plundered treasures. He is inclined to discipline through kicking, but due to his belief that men should not kick women, he employs no female cooks at Baratie. This belief has been passed down to Sanji's chivalry.

During his pirate days, he was a master of kicking techniques and never used his hands in combat. His shoes were dyed red from the blood of his opponents, earning him the nickname "Red-Leg Zeff." His leg strength was so great that he could shatter rock and leave footprints in steel. Currently, his right leg is a prosthetic, but his sharp kicking ability is still intact, and he can extinguish large flames with the wind pressure of his kicks.

He once sailed the "Grand Line" for a year and returned unscathed. Eleven years ago, right after that voyage, he met Sanji on the attacked passenger ship Orbit, who shared his dream of finding the "All Blue." When a storm hit, he jumped into the sea to save Sanji, who had fallen from the ship, and they ended up on a deserted island. There, he gave all the remaining food to Sanji and sustained his own life by eating his leg.

Having experienced starvation multiple times during his pirate days, he always thought, "It would be nice to have a restaurant at sea," and after being rescued from the shipwreck, he quit being a pirate and used the treasure he had at the time to build "Baratie." Since then, the restaurant has flourished, known not only for its cuisine but also for its rough patrons like Patty and Carne, becoming famous as the "restaurant of fighting cooks." Although Sanji and he could never be straightforward with each other and constantly fought, he saw through Sanji's heart, which was suppressing his dreams out of a sense of obligation.

When Creek and his men, on the brink of starvation, arrived at Baratie, Zeff shared food with them despite the other cooks' objections. However, he refused Creek's demand to hand over the logbook documenting their voyage on the "Grand Line," respecting the pride of his crew. After Creek's defeat, he awkwardly encouraged Sanji to set off on his journey with his crew, parting with tears.
