Character Introduction

Race: Tallman. The protagonist of this work. 26 years old. Leader of the exploration team (referred to as a party or guild in the story), a tall swordsman clad in metal armor. The older brother of Farin. Born in the northern continent.
Experienced and skilled, but a severe monster enthusiast. Since childhood, he has been engrossed in reading and carrying the "Labyrinth Gourmet Guide," not only interested in the ecology and abilities of monsters but also in their taste. He had kept this desire hidden from his companions, but confessed and acted upon it when forced to save on expenses for Farin's rescue plan.
Normally mild-mannered and calm, he has the qualities of a leader, including being a capable warrior. However, his ability to read the room and judge people is not particularly strong, as evidenced by being deceived by unscrupulous adventurers and not realizing that Toshiro secretly resented him. He also tends to speak without thinking deeply about the situation or meaning, often earning contempt from his companions, and Chilchuck has complained about his lack of social skills and judgment of people. Unknowingly favoring a female Tallman magician led to dissatisfaction within the team and nearly caused the party to collapse. After being pointed out by his companions, he told the magician that he could no longer favor her, leading her to easily leave the party, and through Farin's connections, Marcille joined as her replacement. He is also relatively poor at remembering faces and appearances, only remembering Kuro the Kobold from the beastmen group he encountered along the way. Kabru has said of him, "He's just not interested in humans," and the winged lion has said, "He hates humans."
When the conversation turns to monsters, his curiosity becomes apparent, and he becomes talkative, forgetting himself. He explores the potential of inorganic materials like metals and paintings as food ingredients and plans to cultivate carnivorous plants from seeds brought back to the surface, showing an obsessive passion for monster cuisine. However, he is also fully aware of the dangers due to his obsession with monsters, cautious of unfounded trust in monsters, and excessive emotional involvement. He occasionally tries to take seeds or spores of magical creatures out of curiosity, but Marcille and Chilchuck prevent him.
His initial equipment was a sword and large shield of "moving armor," obtained during an exploration three years ago when he was still a novice. The shield was lost during a teleportation escape from a Red Dragon, and the sword broke during a battle with the boss of the "moving armor" during Farin's rescue mission. He then named and started using the sword of the "moving armor" boss, which housed a juvenile "moving armor."
Originally from a peaceful mountain village in the far north beyond the sea from Karkabulood, he spent his childhood roaming the hills with his sister, drawing imaginary monsters, and dreaming of adventures. However, disillusioned by his hometown's fear of Farin's magical talents, he left his sister behind in his teens to attend school in the city and became a soldier, but not fitting in, his military career was short-lived. After wandering, he reunited with his sister at Karkabulood's magic school, and they both took up labyrinth exploration as their profession. His father is the village chief, but he has not seen him for over 10 years as of episode 42. He is somewhat concerned about having left his sister, who was somewhat hindered in the village, and this forms a strong motivation for Farin's rescue.
Unlike other selfish adventurers whose main goal is treasure hunting, he is considered "different," described as "well-bred," and rumors such as "some prince" or "descendant of the Golden Castle" have circulated, though he is actually the eldest son of a village chief in a rural village.
He is good at imitating a dog's bark, enough to intimidate monsters with beast-like features. After defeating the Red Dragon, he learned basic healing magic from Marcille while trying to temporarily escape the labyrinth, and he also created a magic circle to generate heat for boiling water.
Initially exploring the dungeon for a living, and now for Farin's rescue, a conversation with Zon, the chief of the orcs, made him consider the possibility of becoming the lord of the Golden Castle. In a dream, he met a winged lion that desired him to become the new master of the labyrinth, showing him a world where "humans, demi-humans, and monsters coexist without discrimination," and he came to "desire" its realization. Laios himself barely remembers the dream, with only the desires and emotions remaining.
Kabru had warned him about the dangers of the labyrinth, but he had completely forgotten, and when he conveyed this to Kabru, he was sharply retorted with "I've been saying that from the start."
Kenso
An individual "moving armor." Uses a sword as a shell substitute, with the main body residing in the handle part. The hilt is shaped like wings. It was revealed that "moving armor" is actually a group of shell-like creatures, and after serving as a meal for the group, the sword was picked up and used by Laios, who did not realize it was a monster. Whether Kenso recognizes Laios as a companion is unclear, but it has shown protective behaviors, such as threatening a mimicking treasure insect and alerting Laios to danger, and Laios, pleased, named and cherished it. Occasionally, Laios shares his meal with it.
Laios kept Kenso's true nature hidden so as not to worry his companions. However, an accident during the Red Dragon subjugation revealed its monstrous nature, leading to a crisis for the party, and Laios was vehemently scolded by Chilchuck. However, since a replacement could not be obtained immediately, he continued to use it.
At the time of volume 7, it was revealed that the hilt had changed to a lion's face, but it had actually started to resemble a lion around the beginning of volume 6 when it was eaten by a dungeon cleaner. In volume 8, it played a key role as the key to opening an unexplored door on the sixth underground layer. These were due to the winged lion, which, while imprisoned, recognized the actions of Laios and his group through Kenso.
At the end of the final volume 14, "Monster Tales -14," it is revealed that after the story ends, Kenso, along with the armor, is laid to rest in a natural labyrinth for various reasons, including mourning. However, what was thought to be dead was actually in a state of suspended animation, and after being left in the labyrinth, it revived and reproduced asexually. A hundred years later, rumors circulated about "the spirit of a king wandering in search of monster meat," indicating that it continued to live.
