Character Introduction

Edit
Another protagonist of the story. Blood type A.
A girl with congenital hearing impairment. Even with a hearing aid, her hearing is severely impaired to the point where she can hardly understand conversations, and her speech is incomplete, making it difficult for others to understand her.
Her hearing impairment was discovered when she was three years old. Upon learning of Shouko's disability, her father blamed her mother and divorced her.
Due to her mother's policy, she chose inclusive education at a regular school instead of a special support school for elementary school. However, after repeated bullying, she transferred to a special support school following strong recommendations from Takeuchi, who was her homeroom teacher at Suimon Elementary School where Shouya was.
In elementary school, Shouko tried to blend in with the class and make friends, but ultimately it didn't work out. After transferring to the special support school, she led a lonely and introverted life until she reunited with Shouya. However, after reuniting with Shouya, she was caught up in a whirlwind of human relationships, including reconnecting with old friends from elementary school.
Due to repeated failures in communication from a young age, she was not good at confronting others with her opinions, and often covered up with a forced smile when friction arose with those around her. As a result, this often gave the impression that she was "acting selfishly without consulting others," which became a distant cause of being shunned by her classmates.
She developed feelings for Shouya, who learned sign language for her and took devoted actions after their reunion (albeit out of guilt for past excessive bullying), but those feelings were not easily conveyed to Shouya.
During an incident while filming a movie planned by Nagatsuka, her relationship with those around her deteriorated, and she attempted suicide due to the distress from the incident but was saved by Shouya. Instead, Shouya fell and ended up in a coma, but this incident prompted her to face her own challenges anew. She played a role in restarting the halted movie production, which had been triggered by Shouya's self-destructive behavior, and helped achieve its completion.
She lives with her grandmother, mother, and younger sister (Yuzuru) (as of the start of the series). Her home is an apartment, and her mother works at a hospital. She aspires to become a hairdresser and moved to Tokyo for further education after graduating high school.
Her birthday is June 7th. At the point revealed in the story, she had turned 18 before Shouya.
According to the author, "Nishimiya is not doing it because she is kind, strong, or weak. I think she is doing it because, after much thought in her own way, she has no choice but to do so."
