Pilemon NOTOS GREYRAT is a human noble from the series Mushoku Tensei, the head of the Notos Greyrat family and lord of the Milbots Territory, known for his cowardly and opportunistic nature and for being the father of Luke Notos Greyrat and the younger brother of Paul Greyrat.

Pilemon NOTOS GREYRAT is a high-ranking noble of the Asura Kingdom, serving as the head of the Notos Greyrat house and ruling over Milbots Territory.

He is seven years younger than his elder brother Paul Greyrat and is the father of Luke Notos Greyrat.

He is affiliated with the Second Princess faction led by Ariel Anemoi Asura, but follows her only for selfish, pragmatic reasons rather than loyalty.

When Ariel flees the Asura Kingdom to escape repeated assassination attempts by the First Prince faction, Pilemon soon switches sides and ingratiates himself with Darius Silva Ganius, effectively betraying Ariel.

Pilemon gained a notorious reputation both as a person and as a lord, being derided by many as a “worthless fool,” a “sneaky rat,” and a “piece of trash.”

Former residents of his territory, such as Sara, resent him deeply, and even his own retainers whisper that things would have been better if Paul Greyrat had become the family head instead.

He is also despised by his uncle Sauros Boreas Greyrat, with whom he has a very poor relationship.

After the Fittoa Region Displacement Incident leads to Sauros’s political downfall, Pilemon is goaded on by Darius Silva Ganius and plays a role in driving Sauros to execution.

Despite his many flaws, he is considered more decent as a father than his own abusive parent, Amarant, and his son Luke views him with a degree of sympathy.

Luke believes that his father is, in his own way, doing his best within the constraints of his position and sense of duty to the house.

Pilemon closely resembles his older brother Paul Greyrat in basic facial features, making their blood relation obvious at a glance.

However, while Paul gives a strong and confident impression, Pilemon looks like a nervous, hungry rat, with a shifty and timid demeanor that immediately suggests pettiness and cowardice.

In the manga and anime adaptations, Pilemon appears noticeably older and more worn than someone in his early twenties, despite being relatively young for a noble.

His face and posture emphasize his weak-willed character, reinforcing the image of a man burdened by fear and anxiety rather than dignity.

Pilemon is a deeply timid and servile man who constantly gauges the moods of those with higher authority and grovels before them.

He fears risk above all else and instinctively chooses the safest, most self-preserving path, even if it means betraying allies or abandoning his responsibilities.

He is the type to obey the strong and trample on the weak, looking down on subordinates and treating them with contempt.

This attitude, combined with his spineless opportunism, makes him widely disliked by those who must serve under him.

As a lord, he is both incompetent and cowardly.

When monsters overflow from a nearby forest and threaten a village within his domain, he fails to dispatch his knights properly, allowing the village to suffer heavy damage.

This negligence leads former residents such as Sara to harbor deep hatred toward him.

His mismanagement and cowardly decisions leave scars not just on the land, but on the lives and memories of the people he was supposed to protect.

Pilemon’s human qualities and ruling abilities are so poor that he has virtually no popular support.

In addition to the insults he receives from commoners and adventurers, even his own retainers speak ill of him in secret, saying that “things would have been better if Paul Greyrat had been the head of the house.”

Even within the Second Princess faction, his abilities and personality inspire no trust.

He is criticized as slow to judge situations and is considered highly likely to betray them, which he ultimately does.

After Ariel flees the Asura Kingdom to gather strength abroad, Pilemon quickly aligns himself with Darius Silva Ganius and the First Prince faction.

He does not merely change allegiance; he actively sends his own soldiers as assassins to target Ariel, whom he had nominally been supporting.

Despite this, he is not entirely monstrous in his private life.

Compared to his abusive father Amarant, Pilemon is “decent enough” as a parent, and he does show affection for his son Luke.

Luke recognizes his father’s many defects and does not hold him in high esteem, yet he interprets Pilemon’s selfishness as stemming partly from his sense of responsibility to protect the Notos Greyrat house.

Because of this, Luke views him with a level of understanding and pity rather than outright hatred.

As lord of Milbots Territory, Pilemon is responsible for the defense and governance of his lands, but his decisions are guided by fear and self-interest rather than duty.

His refusal to properly respond when monsters threatened a village demonstrates his reluctance to risk his forces or himself.

This failure results in severe damage to the village, causing suffering among his people and cementing his reputation as an unfit ruler.

The lingering resentment from people like Sara underscores how deeply his cowardice affects others.

Politically, Pilemon begins as a key noble in the faction supporting Second Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura.

However, he is motivated primarily by what he believes will best preserve his status, not by any conviction or loyalty to Ariel herself.

When the First Prince faction launches repeated assassination attempts against Ariel, Pilemon suggests that she flee the Asura Kingdom and seek power abroad.

On the surface, this can be read as advice for survival, but it also conveniently removes him from immediate risk.

Once Ariel actually leaves the country, Pilemon no longer sees any advantage in staying on her side.

He then approaches Darius Silva Ganius and defects to the First Prince faction, demonstrating how quickly he abandons alliances when the balance of power shifts.

His hostility toward Sauros Boreas Greyrat further highlights his opportunism.

After the Fittoa Region Displacement Incident, when Sauros loses his position and power, Pilemon is incited by Darius and participates in pushing Sauros toward execution, effectively betraying his own kin for political favor.

These actions define Pilemon as a classic “survivor” noble: one who prioritizes his personal safety and position above justice, loyalty, or family bonds.

He is the embodiment of a small-minded politician who clings to power by siding with whoever seems stronger at the moment.

Luke Notos Greyrat

Luke Notos Greyrat is Pilemon’s second son and his most notable child.

Pilemon dotes on Luke and, by the low standards of his family history, fulfills his role as a father relatively well.

While Luke does not admire Pilemon as a great man or a righteous lord, he does not wholly condemn him either.

He believes that Pilemon is desperately doing what he can as head of the house, and that his self-centered decisions are partly driven by the responsibility he feels to protect the Notos Greyrat family.

Because of this nuance, Luke is more sympathetic toward Pilemon than most others.

He tries to understand his father’s choices within the context of Asura’s harsh noble politics rather than judging him solely by ideal standards.

Paul Greyrat

Paul Greyrat is Pilemon’s older brother and, in many ways, his opposite in personality and reputation.

As children, Pilemon looked down on Paul, who was known as a troublemaker and delinquent, and their relationship was strained.

Paul, in turn, disliked Pilemon and had little affection for him.

However, after Paul left home to become an adventurer, he grew so distant from the family that he could barely even recall Pilemon’s face, and his emotions toward his younger brother faded into indifference.

Within the Notos Greyrat domain, many retainers later claim that things would have been better if Paul had become head of the house instead of Pilemon.

This comparison further underscores Pilemon’s unpopularity and perceived incompetence as a leader.

Sauros Boreas Greyrat

Sauros Boreas Greyrat is Pilemon’s uncle and a powerful figure from the Boreas branch of the Greyrat family.

Sauros strongly dislikes Pilemon, and their relationship is very poor.

After the Fittoa Region Displacement Incident, Sauros loses his position and becomes politically vulnerable.

Seizing the moment under the influence of Darius Silva Ganius, Pilemon helps push Sauros toward execution rather than supporting or defending his own blood relative.

This act sharply illustrates Pilemon’s readiness to sacrifice family ties for political survival.

It also deepens the negative perception of him among other nobles and those who respected Sauros.

Darius Silva Ganius

Darius Silva Ganius serves as a key power broker in the Asura Kingdom and is a central figure in the First Prince faction.

He skillfully manipulates Pilemon, taking advantage of Pilemon’s fear and ambition.

Darius encourages Pilemon to move against Sauros Boreas Greyrat, using him as a disposable tool in larger political schemes.

Later, when Pilemon shifts from the Second Princess faction to the First Prince faction, it is Darius whom he tries to ingratiate himself with to secure his own position.

Ariel Anemoi Asura

Ariel Anemoi Asura is the Second Princess of the Asura Kingdom and the figurehead of the faction Pilemon initially supports.

However, his support is shallow and purely self-serving.

When she is targeted repeatedly by assassins from the First Prince faction, Pilemon advises her to flee the kingdom and build her strength in another land.

This advice, while seemingly protective, also allows him to distance himself from a losing side and reduce his own risk.

After Ariel leaves Asura, Pilemon abandons her entirely.

He goes so far as to send his own soldiers as assassins to pursue her on behalf of her enemies, completing his betrayal of the princess he once officially backed.

Sara

Sara is a former resident of Pilemon’s domain who holds a deep grudge against him.

Her hatred stems from his failure to properly respond when monsters overflowed from a forest and attacked a village, causing severe damage and suffering.

Pilemon’s refusal to dispatch his knights effectively in this crisis directly led to the devastation of Sara’s home.

For people like her, Pilemon is not just a bad ruler in the abstract; he is the very reason their lives were ruined.

Amarant

Amarant is Pilemon’s father and a classic example of a toxic, abusive parent.

Compared to Amarant, Pilemon appears almost “normal” as a father.

The contrast between them explains why Luke and others can still see some redeeming qualities in Pilemon within the private sphere of family.

While he fails as a lord and politician, he at least does not perpetuate the same extreme cruelty his father embodied.
