A yakuza member feared as "Hitokiri Gasuke" belonging to the "Kanto Shueigumi." He seems to hold a senior position within the group, being addressed with respect by his subordinates. He was collecting tribute money that Yahiko earned through pickpocketing, but when Yahiko refused, saying "I won't pickpocket anymore," he became furious. After insulting Yahiko's parents' circumstances, he was bitten in the groin, and when Kenshin stormed the group to rescue Yahiko, he was defeated by being pinned under a door and then blown away by the force of Kenshin's sword, causing his head to get stuck in the ceiling.

In the first anime adaptation, his violent nature from the original work is absent, and his cunning personality is emphasized. When Kaoru stormed the mansion to rescue Yahiko, he tried to trap her in a rigged gambling match but failed due to Yahiko's defection. He reveals that he had been forcing Yahiko, who became an orphan, to pickpocket by binding him with false debts. In the battle with Kaoru, he overwhelms her due to the difference in skill, but in the next battle, he is defeated by Kenshin in the same manner as in the original work.
