Character Setting

Edit

Allen Fromel is a male cat-person adventurer, a level 6 first-class fighter, and the vice-captain of the Freya Familia in the series “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?”.

Name: Allen Fromel

Gender: Male

Race: Cat Person (Cat People)

Age: 25

Height: 162 cm

Occupation: Adventurer

Affiliation: Freya Familia (former core member, later technically disbanded)

Level: 6 (first-class adventurer)

Alias (Title): Goddess’s Chariot (Vana Freya)

Voice Actor (Japanese): Taku Yashiro

Allen Fromel is the vice-captain of the Freya Familia, one of the largest and most powerful factions in Orario.

He is famed as “the fastest in the city,” reputed to be the swiftest adventurer in all of Orario.

He is a cat-person male with a ferocious reputation, acting as both Freya’s fanatic enforcer and the bodyguard of Syr Flover.

Despite his harsh personality, his deepest motivation is to protect his younger sister Anya Fromel and to one day slay the one-eyed black dragon that destroyed their homeland.

Allen is gruff, foul-mouthed, and outright hostile in both words and actions.

He picks fights easily and constantly causes trouble with his aggressive attitude.

He shows particular animosity toward the rival Loki Familia, and at one point tries to kill Ais Wallenstein outright, war or no war.

Within the Freya Familia he is the spearhead of the extremist faction, a “mad cat” who never hesitates when violence is involved.

However, he is not a simple villain.

He can be considerate, respects the resolve of others, and Freya herself describes him as kind.

Allen is absolutely loyal to Freya and directs killing intent at anyone who insults her, regardless of who they are.

At the same time, he is bluntly critical of her free-spirited, reckless behavior and even declares she should be caged if that is what it takes to restrain her.

He can be stubborn and disobedient even toward Freya’s orders, making him one of the most troublesome members of the Familia.

He is intensely proud and extremely sensitive about his height, reacting with violence if someone mocks his stature or physique.

Allen has black fur, cat ears, and a tail, typical of the cat-person race.

His facial features are handsome, but the constant pressure and hostility he radiates make him difficult to approach.

At 162 cm, he is relatively short for an adult male and is deeply self-conscious about it.

This height complex is so severe that talking about his body size is essentially a forbidden topic around him.

In his childhood, Allen lived peacefully with his parents and younger sister Anya in their homeland.

That peace ended when their village was annihilated by the one-eyed black dragon, one of the Three Great Quests, killing their parents in the process.

After that tragedy, Allen wandered aimlessly with little Anya on his back, surviving as refugees.

When Allen was six years old, the goddess Freya happened to discover them and took him into the Freya Familia.

From that moment, Allen swore to become stronger so that he could protect his sister.

However, his trauma and obsession with strength gradually twisted into a ruthless and extreme worldview centered on power and survival.

Anya Fromel, who works at the tavern Hostess of Fertility, is Allen’s beloved younger sister.

On the surface, their relationship appears broken, and Allen speaks of her as “the idiot I hate most.”

In reality, he cherishes Anya more than even Freya and still loves her deeply.

When he was afflicted by a curse that makes every person in sight look like one’s “most beloved,” he did not see Freya—he saw Anya.

Allen’s cruelty toward Anya is deliberate.

He drove her away from the Freya Familia with the harsh words “you’re in the way, I don’t need you,” staging a scene with Freya so Anya would believe she was being thrown out.

His real intention was to remove her from the deadly world he inhabits.

He used the “expulsion” as a way to send her to the relative safety of the Hostess of Fertility, which is run by former Freya Familia captain Mia.

Because he believed that staying near him would eventually get Anya killed, he chose to let her hate him rather than risk her life.

This self-sacrificial choice ironically robbed him of his emotional anchor, causing him to lose his former edge and preventing him from fighting at his full potential.

Allen’s relentless pursuit of strength is driven by his desire to one day defeat the one-eyed black dragon and secure Anya’s happiness.

Unlike most of Freya’s followers, he is one of the rare children of Freya who is mainly striving for someone other than his goddess.

During the Faction War, his true feelings are exposed by Hedin and others: that he “loves his sister so much that he had no choice but to hate her.”

After their first true “sibling quarrel” on the battlefield, their relationship begins to slowly improve.

Freya

Freya is Allen’s revered main goddess and the absolute center of his loyalty.

He normally shows proper respect to her and obeys her, in stark contrast to his behavior toward almost everyone else.

That said, he is exasperated by Freya’s selfish, capricious freedom and sometimes goes as far as to say she should be locked in a cage.

He occasionally defies her orders or prioritizes his own interpretation of her will, adding to his difficulty as a subordinate.

Anya Fromel

Anya is Allen’s real younger sister and the person most precious to him.

Her safety and happiness are his ultimate goal, even above Freya’s desires.

Allen is the only one who can actually enjoy Anya’s catastrophically off-key singing as “music.”

After he forced Anya out of the Familia “for her own good,” he emotionally crippled himself and could no longer fully demonstrate his abilities.

During the Faction War, Anya confronts him on the battlefield, and they finally air their true feelings.

Their clash, combined with Hedin and Hegni’s intervention, lays bare Allen’s love for his sister and begins to mend their relationship.

Ottar

Ottar is the captain of the Freya Familia and one of the strongest adventurers in the world.

Allen frequently insults him and challenges him because Ottar monopolizes Freya’s side as her top warrior.

Still, Allen acknowledges Ottar’s power and views him as a wall he must surpass in his pursuit of strength.

Even Ottar recognizes Allen’s magic as dangerous enough to threaten his life if he does not defend seriously.

Syr Flover

Syr Flover is Allen’s primary protection target in daily life.

He behaves outwardly submissive as her “bodyguard,” but complains about her freewheeling behavior and constant troublemaking.

When Syr’s true identity and Freya’s hidden wish come to light, Allen is drawn into the storm that completely reshapes the Familia.

Even then, he doggedly carries out his role as the goddess’s “chariot” until the very end.

Bell Cranel

Bell Cranel is the human boy who becomes Freya’s obsession and the central hero of the series.

Allen recognizes Bell’s growth and potential to a certain degree but dislikes him, largely because Bell receives Freya’s special favor.

When Freya enchants the entire city, Allen takes part in the brutal “training” that acts as Bell’s baptism.

After Bell is temporarily rejected from his true family, the Hestia Familia, Allen even shows glimmers of sympathy and treats him a bit less harshly.

Welf Crozzo

Allen repeatedly encounters Welf Crozzo on the battlefield.

Each time, he crushes Welf with overwhelming speed and calls him “small fry” or “loser,” earning Welf’s intense hatred.

Allen initially does not consider Welf worth noticing due to the massive difference in strength.

During the Faction War’s climax, however, Welf manages a devastating comeback that seals Allen’s defeat and throws those insults back in his face.

Bete Loga

Bete Loga of the Loki Familia is Allen’s near-mirror image and worst match-up in terms of personality.

Both are vicious, sharp-tongued speedsters whose homelands were destroyed by dragons, and both have painful histories involving sisters.

Allen calls Bete a “mutt,” and the narrative itself notes that their compatibility is “the worst.”

They share multiple traits—short temper, talent, traumatic past, and a hidden kindness recognized by their goddesses—leading to intense mutual dislike and an element of self-loathing.

Other Connections

Allen clashes with members of the Loki Familia such as Tione Hiryute and Finn Deimne during the Xenos and Knossos incidents.

He respects Finn’s tactical skills enough to fight alongside him in the Knossos final battle against the demi-spirit.

He fights against strong adventurers like Riveria Ljos Alf and later supports the rescue of the Loki Familia on the deep floors.

He is also frequently associated with Hedin Selland, Hegni, the Gulliver Brothers, and former captain Mia, especially during and after the disbandment of the Freya Familia.

Early Encounters with Bell Cranel

Allen makes his first main-story appearance when Freya orders a secret test for the then-level 1 Bell Cranel.

Together with the Gulliver Brothers, Allen ambushes Bell, both to measure his abilities and to warn Ais Wallenstein and the Loki Familia.

When Bell is attacked by barbarians in the orphanage basement, Allen instantly annihilates the monsters to protect Syr.

At this stage, his presence is mostly that of a lethal shadow acting in Freya’s name.

Ishtar Familia and the Pleasure Quarter

After Freya learns that the Ishtar Familia has abducted Bell, Allen infiltrates the pleasure quarter for reconnaissance.

He later joins Freya’s all-out assault on the Ishtar Familia, contributing to its total destruction.

Xenos Arc and Asterius Fight

During the conflict surrounding the Xenos (intelligent monsters), Freya orders that Bell’s duel with Asterius not be interrupted.

Allen engages Tione Hiryute of the Loki Familia to keep her from interfering in the one-on-one battle.

He clearly understands Bell’s desire to fight Asterius “as a man staking his pride” and is visibly disgusted when Tione tries to intrude.

He tells her, “The kid is betting his manhood; do not get in the way,” highlighting his own code of respect for earnest battles.

Knossos Final Battle (Side Story)

In the side story focusing on the final Knossos battle, Allen joins a unit led by Finn Deimne.

There he dominates the battlefield against a demi-spirit, tearing through the monster horde almost single-handedly.

When Bell’s Heroic Desire (Argonaut) rings out like a great bell, nearly everyone is inspired and reinvigorated.

Allen alone grumbles that it is an “annoying bell,” driven by jealousy and his refusal to acknowledge someone stronger.

Freya’s Charm over Orario

In volume 16, during the second day of the Goddess Festival, Allen tracks Syr while Anya’s group is defeated by the Gulliver Brothers and Hegni.

He orders Anya and the others aside despite her pleading, forcing them to step away from the path.

He then attacks Horn, who is disguised as Syr, contemptuously calling her a fanatic.

Later, after Orario is fully charmed by Freya, Allen keeps an eye on the Hostess of Fertility under the excuse of watching Mia, though Hedin knows he is really watching over Anya.

When Hedin informs him of Freya’s abnormal state, Allen joins Bell’s “baptism,” helping shape Bell into a warrior worthy to reach Freya.

He even punches a panicked Anya who attacks Freya in a frenzy, knocking her out.

He attempts to intercept Riveria Ljos Alf and the returning deep-floor party at Babel, but when Freya’s charm is broken, he rushes back to the Familia home.

Bete Loga intercepts him, and the two clash violently.

Before the War

In volume 18, when Freya decides on a massive War Game against a 46-familia coalition, Allen is displeased that the Loki Familia will not formally participate.

He questions Freya but stops pushing when he realizes she still refuses to give up on Bell.

Under Hedin Selland’s command, Allen prepares for a “backs-to-the-wall” strategy.

He understands that the original plan is to annihilate the entire opposing coalition.

Early and Mid War

Once the war begins, Allen waits until the coalition is worn down by the “Iron Warriors” supported by Hayes’s wide-area healing magic.

He then enters the field and launches a blitz to wipe out the enemy.

He intercepts Welf Crozzo, who is about to strike at Hegni empowered by the cursed sword Dainsleif.

Once again, Allen overwhelms Welf and derides him as a “loser,” shoving him into the ground.

With his almost unfair mobility, Allen tears through multiple units, quickly collapsing the coalition’s front.

Just as he is on the verge of crushing the alliance completely, Freya unexpectedly orders an early end to the War Game.

Allen is furious because he knows the original strategy was to eradicate all of the opposing familias.

But when he learns that this is Freya’s own command, he reluctantly changes course and heads straight toward the coalition’s main camp.

Charging into the eastern front, he shatters the godly flowers that serve as “life markers,” eliminating god after god and their forces.

He reduces the 46 familias down to only 4 still standing, nearly snapping the conflict in Freya’s favor.

Collapse of the Freya Familia

Disaster strikes when Ryuu Lion joins the fray and defeats Hegni.

Soon after, Hedin betrays the Freya Familia, turning his magic cannons against Freya’s own main camp.

Allen is enraged when he learns that Freya’s headquarters is being bombarded by Hedin’s treachery.

But with distance and battlefield control working against him, he is unable to reach Ottar and the core force.

On top of that, he learns that Anya has joined the battle from the rear.

Shocked, he hastily races toward the western main battlefield to find her.

The Sibling Duel

Allen arrives just as the Gulliver Brothers and the Hostess of Fertility staff are engaged in fierce combat on the western front.

The moment he appears, Anya hits him with her magic Remist Ferris, lowering his status and weakening him.

Anya then challenges him, and their first real sibling quarrel—and battle—begins.

Even with his status reduced, Allen’s baseline strength is far above Anya’s, and she quickly falls behind.

At the same time, Allen himself is emotionally destabilized and cannot bring himself to land a killing blow on his own sister.

He tries to force himself to end it, lunging with a lethal spear thrust.

At that moment, Hegni—who, like Hedin, has turned coat—intervenes to protect Anya.

He exposes Allen’s true feelings: that he has “no choice but to hate the sister he loves” and that losing her as someone to protect has made him weaker.

Hegni tells Allen that the current relationship between him and Anya is wrong.

Faced with his heart being laid bare, Allen is left speechless and shaken.

Allen’s Ultimate Magic and Defeat

Even after being exposed, Allen refuses to let the “goddess” be taken from him.

He activates his only magic, Gralineze Fromel, unleashing a destructive charge that wipes out friends and foes alike across the main battlefield.

Around the same time, Ottar is defeated in a death struggle against Bell and his allies.

With Ottar’s fall, Allen becomes the only surviving Freya Familia executive still in play.

Realizing that Ottar has failed, Allen resolves to fulfill the “chariot’s” purpose on his own.

He begins to pursue Bell, who is racing toward Freya.

Anya’s debuff finally wears off, and Allen recovers near-full strength.

He quickly closes the distance and initiates what is called the “final running duel” with Bell.

Allen comes within a single step of Bell’s back.

But at the last moment, Bell’s development ability Escape activates, making Bell, for that moment alone, the fastest being in the lower world.

Allen is left behind, his identity as the “fastest in the city” shattered.

Knowing he cannot catch Bell on foot, he orders Lasc and the others guarding the “House of the Gods” to open fire with magic from range.

At the same time, he begins chanting Gralineze Fromel again, planning to obliterate Bell with a second ultimate strike.

Just as he is about to complete the spell, someone else steps in.

Welf Crozzo, whom Allen had seemingly crushed, manages to get ahead of him and uses his magic Will o’ Wisp to interfere.

The anti-magic effect causes Allen’s spell to misfire and triggers magic reflux (Ignis Fatuus), blowing up both Allen’s unit and Lasc’s shooters.

This failed casting makes the Freya side’s defeat in the War Game all but certain.

Welf then pays Allen back with Allen’s own insult, snarling “get lost, loser cat” (rendered as “loser” in the anime) and returning every humiliation Allen ever piled on him.

Finally, Allen is engulfed by the explosion of Welf’s magic sword First High: Radiant Moon.

He becomes the last participant to be eliminated, and with his fall the Freya Familia’s era ends.

Aftermath of the Faction War

After the Faction War, the Freya Familia is officially dissolved.

Freya, in Syr’s form, attempts to leave Orario, but Bell, Ryuu Lion, and others confront her at the Hostess of Fertility.

When “Syr” screams that she wants to stop being a goddess and stay there with everyone, the tavern erupts in applause.

Watching from a nearby rooftop, Allen observes this scene with Ottar, Horn, Hegni, and the Gulliver Brothers.

He dryly asks Hedin, “Satisfied now, insect?” referring to Hedin’s betrayal.

Hedin replies that he does not know if this is truly the correct ending, causing Allen, Hegni, the Gulliver Brothers, and others (except Ottar) to glare at him.

In volume 19, the former Freya Familia executives work as waiters at the Hostess of Fertility.

Allen is technically on “watch duty” from the rooftop, but in truth, he is running away from Anya, who keeps trying to drag him back into the family.

Syr casually gives Anya his hiding place.

Anya chases Allen, trying to hug him, leading to loud bickering and running footsteps that even Bell’s celebration party downstairs can hear.

Orario Games (Orariopiade)

With the Freya Familia publicly disbanded, Allen does not participate in the Orario Games as a competitor.

Instead, he attends as a spectator with Hedin and the Gulliver Brothers, watching the fourth match and the final bout.

When he sees Bell blasted away by Leon Vardenberg’s Castle-Cutting shockwave near Dragon Valley, he notes that “the knight wannabe” has grown stronger again.

As Leon continues to pound Bell with afterimages, Allen simply remarks that the “damned rabbit getting turned into trash is nothing new,” showing no visible panic unlike others.

Loki Familia Rescue Operation

During the operation to rescue the trapped Loki Familia in the deep floors, Allen joins the main force heading toward the 60th floor.

Many expect him to refuse, but he grudgingly cooperates, not wanting to lose his chance at eventually slaying the black dragon.

After helping defeat a hydra-type demi-spirit on the 58th floor, he moves down as part of the follow-up forces toward the 60th floor.

Upon arrival, he, the Gulliver Brothers, and Raul Nord head toward the Thousand Azure Garden (Talia’s Ice Garden) between the 60th and 61st floors where Finn’s group is located.

Allen is second only to Ottar within the Freya Familia in overall combat power.

Even Hedin and Hegni, both formidable in their own right, acknowledge that Allen surpasses them.

He is considered the fastest adventurer in Orario, “fastest in the city” among all adventurers.

His speed is so extreme that only first-class adventurers can even follow his movements with their eyes.

Allen fights using a silver long spear and excels at close combat, combining blinding-speed footwork with lethal precision.

His agility attribute is believed to be extraordinarily high, and he likely possesses multiple skills that enhance agility, similar to Bete Loga.

Ottar’s agility score is known to be S:989 at level 7, among the highest for that level.

Since Allen surpasses Ottar in pure speed, it is implied that his agility performance exceeds even typical level 7 standards.

Apart from speed, he demonstrates keen combat instincts, battlefield awareness, and the mental focus to keep casting while dodging in deadly close quarters.

However, his emotional volatility and unresolved family issues can undermine his performance, especially whenever Anya is involved.

Level: 6

Strength: Unknown

Endurance: Unknown

Dexterity: Unknown

Agility: Extremely high, above standard level 7 ranges by implication

Magic: Unknown

Skills

The names of Allen’s skills are not disclosed.

However, he clearly possesses multiple abilities that enhance agility, similar to Bete Loga, reinforcing his “city’s fastest” reputation.

Development Abilities

His exact development abilities are unknown.

The narrative suggests he focuses heavily on agility-related development, further amplifying his speed.

Magic: Gralineze Fromel

Name: Gralineze Fromel

This is Allen’s sole known magic and one of the most destructive spells in the story.

It massively reinforces his agility and converts his speed directly into raw striking power.

The faster Allen accelerates, the more the magic’s destructive power multiplies.

Its potential has no hard upper limit in theory, making it a spell whose power grows without bound alongside his speed.

Properly unleashed, Gralineze Fromel is powerful enough that even Ottar must defend with everything he has or risk being killed.

In the Faction War, Allen uses it to essentially erase the entire main battlefield, wiping out enemies and allies alike.

The spell’s greatest weakness is its extremely long chant, which normally would leave the caster vulnerable.

Allen, however, can chant while running at top speed and dodging attacks, making it almost impossible to interrupt.

Ironically, the incantation itself expresses Allen’s hidden feelings for Anya, which is why he never once uses this magic in front of her.

When Anya is nearby, he would rather handicap himself than expose his heart through the spell’s words.

Height Complex

Allen is intensely insecure about his short height of 162 cm.

In the mobile game events, especially “Midnight Love Sabot,” it is stated explicitly that bringing up his body size is absolutely taboo.

Anyone who mocks him as short—civilian or adventurer—gets attacked with full force.

In the event, he mercilessly beats up several women who call him a “shorty,” underscoring how touchy he is about the subject.

Similarities with Bete Loga

Although Allen and Bete Loga seem to hate each other’s guts, they are remarkably alike.

Notable shared traits include:

Fastest-footed members of their respective familias

Feared and disliked by other adventurers due to their aggressiveness

Homelands destroyed by dragons

Both have (or had) sisters, with Bete’s sister deceased

Described as “kind” at heart by their goddesses, Freya and Loki

Willing to say cruel things to loved ones to push them away for their own good

Possess powerful magic with chants that expose their true feelings, which they personally dislike

This long list of parallels suggests that their mutual hostility partly stems from seeing themselves in each other.

Even Bete, reluctantly, admits that he and Allen are similar, which only irritates him further.

Voice Actor Notes

Allen’s Japanese voice actor, Taku Yashiro, also voices Scott, one of Mord Latro’s associates.

Scott is an effeminate, flamboyant character, completely opposite in tone to the brutal Allen.

The contrast between the soft, “onee” style Scott and the vicious Allen frequently made the recording studio laugh.

In the fifth anime season, episode 9, both Allen and Scott appear, leading to Taku Yashiro being credited twice, a rare case given how multiple roles are usually collapsed into a single credit.
