Character Setting

Edit

Mephisto is a central antagonist in Suite PreCure♪ and serves as the king of Minor Land. Visually striking with his long pink hair, beard, and signature tired eyes, Mephisto conceals a dark and complex nature beneath his flamboyant and comedic façade. Once the loving ruler of Major Land, he is manipulated and transformed into a ruthless leader, rejecting love and friendship, causing turmoil throughout both worlds. Eventually, the story unravels his true self, shedding light on his relationships, motivations, and redemption, making him a memorable and multidimensional character.

Mephisto is a middle-aged man with long, pink hair and a pronounced beard, both of which become wild and spiky during his monstrous state.

He has tired-looking eyes with dark circles underneath.

He wears a red cloak and an outfit mainly colored black, purple, and yellow.

Bird bone-shaped shoulder pads adorn both shoulders, and a treble clef-like ornament sits on his forehead.

When under the influence of evil, his overall appearance becomes more menacing and muscular, with his hair and beard standing on end and his shoulder pads turning black.

In his true form as King of Major Land, he dons regal attire fitting his title.

While Mephisto often acts in a humorous and exaggerated manner, his true nature is cold, ruthless, and even violent.

He outright denies concepts like human love, friendship, and trust, and is willing to abandon his subordinates without hesitation.

After regaining his memories, his original gentle and affectionate personality emerges, showing deep care for his daughter Ako Shirabe and a renewed sense of responsibility toward his kingdom.

Originally, Mephisto was the beloved King of Major Land and the father of Ako Shirabe.

He was also the husband of Aphrodite.

His downfall came when he ventured into the Forest of Evil Echoes to reclaim the Healing Chest from Noise.

During this challenge, he was attacked by Golem, one of Noise's minions, who infected him with "evil Noise," resulting in his brainwashing.

Under this influence, Mephisto’s memories became mostly sealed, except for vague recollections of the Forest of Evil Echoes.

He believed the ambitions implanted by Noise were his own desires, leading him to found Minor Land and manipulate those around him for his cause.

Even before being possessed, Mephisto wields a powerful technique known as the "Holy Thunder," capable of firing intense beams of light.

In his monstrous, Negatone state, his physical strength dramatically increases.

He can shatter barriers like the Beat Barrier with his fists, fire destructive energy blasts from his hands, and even launch twin-headed skeletal dragons from his back that shoot devastating energy beams from their mouths.

  • Ako Shirabe: His daughter; he is doting and eager to protect her after recovering his memories.
  • Aphrodite: His loving wife, who notes that after returning to his original self, he becomes a more kingly figure than before.
  • Noise: The malevolent entity responsible for Mephisto’s corruption and transformation into a villain.
  • Bassdrum, Baritone, Falsetto: The trio he unwittingly led down a path of evil, later feeling guilt and responsibility for their fate.
  • Suite PreCure♪ (especially Hibiki Hōjō and Kanade Minamino): He maintains an informal, friendly attitude toward them even after returning to the throne.

Invasion of Major Land

During the Grand Music Festival, Mephisto attacks Major Land to seize the "Legendary Score."

Aphrodite disperses the musical notes into the human world to thwart his plan.

Mephisto orders his minions to retrieve the scattered notes, communicating via water or mirrors from his homeland.

Fall and Corruption

Once known as the king of Major Land, and a caring father to Ako Shirabe, Mephisto’s fate changed when he entered the Forest of Evil Echoes to recover the Healing Chest from Noise.

There, Golem ambushed him with "evil Noise," brainwashing and transforming him into Minor Land’s tyrant.

He also brainwashed Siren (Kurokawa Ellen) and the Three Musketeers, forming the sinister force known as Trio the Minor.

Loss and Awakening

Mephisto's memories of his original life are almost entirely sealed, with only faint memories of the Forest of Evil Echoes.

He becomes convinced that the ambitions given to him by Noise are his own true will.

In Episode 35, the truth comes to light when Mephisto learns that Cure Muse is his daughter, Ako.

However, Noise’s brainwashing intensifies, turning him into a monstrous Negatone form in Episode 34-36.

In Episode 36, Ako’s heartfelt plea reaches Mephisto, and he is finally freed from the evil Noise, regaining his true, kind self and memories.

He reverts to using "I" (watashi) as his pronoun and returns to his original royal outfit, though he continues to address Hibiki Hōjō and Kanade Minamino by their first names.

Redemption and Resolution

As King of Major Land once more, Mephisto is seen doting on Ako and pledges to protect his kingdom from Noise.

He expresses deep regret for dragging the Trio the Minor into darkness.

In Episode 43, he purifies Bassdrum and Baritone with his "Holy Power," rendering himself unconscious as a side effect.

Later, in Episode 46, Noise petrifies him, but in the final episode, Hummy’s song restores his consciousness.

Mephisto apologizes to Hibiki Hōjō and her friends, promises never to make Ako sad again, and entrusts Ako to them as they return to Kanon Town.

Monstrous Ultimate Form

From Episodes 34 to 36, Mephisto assumes his Negatone form—a gigantic, muscular figure with spiked hair and beard and an intimidating presence.

This monstrous state makes him so powerful that even "Precure Passionate Harmony" has no effect on him.

He is capable of breaking strong barriers, firing rapid destructive blasts, and, in an upgraded form, unleashing twin-headed dragon-shaped bone constructs from his back that emit even more devastating energy rays.

  • Despite returning to his position as king, Mephisto continues to use casual forms of address with the main characters, maintaining a friendly style.
  • Aphrodite observes that Mephisto is more kingly and responsible after overcoming the influence of evil than he was before his corruption.
