Originally from Cocoyashi Village. Aged 46 to 48. Birthday is June 17th. Height 173 cm. Gemini. Blood type F. Favorite food is prosciutto melon.

Has known Nami and Nojiko since they were children, acting almost like a father figure to them. Has also known Bell-mère since childhood. Wears a hat with a toy windmill attached. This was because baby Nami stopped crying and smiled when he first put on the windmill. Known as "Gen-san" to Nami and Nojiko, and "Windmill old man" to Luffy. Still bears scars from a fight with Kuroobi 10 years ago.

When Nami joined the Arlong crew, he learned of Nami's true feelings from Nojiko. Since then, he pretended not to know anything to avoid burdening Nami.

During the Arlong Park arc, he was nearly killed by Arlong when his possession of weapons was discovered, but was saved by Usopp's intervention. He was outraged when Navy Captain Nezumi, bribed by Arlong, nullified Nami's 8 years of hard work, and attempted to storm Arlong Park with all the villagers, but was stopped by Yosaku and Johnny. After the village was freed, he promised Luffy at Bell-mère's grave that he would kill anyone who stole Nami's smile, entrusting her to him. On the day of departure, as Nami regained her smile with Luffy's crew, he placed his trademark windmill on Bell-mère's grave.

After the collapse of Enies Lobby, when Nami became a wanted criminal, he complained to the Navy about the sexiness of her wanted poster attracting more suitors than bounty hunters.
