Rodd Reiss

Historia's biological father and the unofficial yet de facto supreme leader of the royal government. He outwardly pretends to be of noble status and is referred to as "Lord Reiss" by those around him. Besides his eldest daughter Frieda, he had a first son, Urklyn, a second son, Dirk, a second daughter, Abel, and a third daughter, Florian, with his legal wife. As a result of his relationship with Alma, a servant in his household, Historia was born, but he did not formally accept them into the family and kept the mother and child secluded on a ranch within his domain. After the fall of Wall Maria in 845, he was attacked by Grisha and lost both the "power of the Titans" and his entire family, prompting him to decide to welcome Alma and Historia into his life and live with them. However, when Kenny and the Central First Brigade suddenly appeared and thwarted his actions, he silently consented to Alma being buried in obscurity as someone unrelated to him. Yet, he felt guilty about the assassination of young Historia and allowed her to live under the alias "Krista Lenz" by severing ties.

He remained silent for five years about the death of his five children and the theft of the "power of the Titans," but confessed after Eren used the Titan power to win the Battle of Trost District. After Eren and Historia returned from Wall Rose, he mobilized Kenny and the Central Military Police to forcibly secure them and summon them to him. In an attempt to reclaim the Titan power that Grisha had taken from Frieda, he tried to have Historia consume a Titan serum and eat Eren, but she refused, thwarting his plan. In a state of confusion, he ingested the serum himself and transformed into a Titan, but due to his sluggish Titan form, he was unable to consume Eren in time and was blown apart by the Survey Corps' counterattack, ultimately being killed by Historia who cut his main body.

In his youth, he wished to exterminate Titans and save humanity using the Titan power passed down through the Reiss family. Despite inheritors being granted the freedom to publicly declare the world's mysteries, none did so, and his spirit weakened as his brother and daughter, who shared his aspirations, were consumed by the memories of the first king who created the world within the walls and changed their minds. He was once in a position to inherit the Titan from his father, but his brother offered to inherit it in exchange for a promise. Upon seeing his brother immediately after the inheritance, he referred to the inheritor as "God" and considered his mission to be to call back God and offer prayers.

According to Isayama, Rod was an "ordinary person" who, having become the last survivor of the Reiss family, could not bear the heavy responsibility and resorted to infidelity and reliance on God.
