Simon Kalm

The priest of the village where Elias and others live. Following the orders of the church, he has been monitoring Elias for ten years since the beginning of the main story. He is one of the people who interacts with Elias, exchanging lighthearted banter with him, but is disliked by Silky and regarded with suspicion as "suspicious" by Ruth. Elias, who is not good at understanding human subtleties and emotions, initially said he was just an acquaintance, but later, during the academy arc, it was pointed out that their relationship was not merely acquaintance but friendship, and he came to recognize him as a friend. When Elias takes the form of a human male, he models himself after Simon, so their appearances are similar.

Simon has a special ability that brings misfortune to those he serves his handmade sweets, which he calls "Jinx." When he was young and unaware of this power, he inadvertently caused the deaths of his beloved family and lover. Despairing of everything and considering suicide, he was taken in by his current superior, who taught him the knowledge and skills to become a priest and how to manage his ability. Subsequently, he was dispatched to the village as Elias's overseer.

Simon has little awareness of Elias as a monster or non-human being, and he barely performs his duties as a monitor, essentially slacking off (with his superior's approval), which turns out to be the correct way to deal with Elias. Previous monitors before Simon were quickly driven away by Elias because they treated him as a monster from the start and were openly wary.
