Chise Hatori

The protagonist of this work is a girl with distinctive red hair, aged 15 to 16, referred to as "Chise" in katakana. As a magician, she possesses immense latent potential but has the ability to see and hear non-human entities, leading her to be abandoned by her father and brother. Her mother, mentally cornered and manipulated by demonic influences, almost killed her. Subsequently shunned by the relatives who took her in and isolated by bullying, Chise was on the verge of giving up on life and contemplating suicide when Seth appeared and proposed a deal. She then willingly participated in a slave auction, where she was bought by Elias to be both his apprentice and his wife.

Chise is known as a "Sleigh Beggy," a rare type of being with special magical properties. However, Elias estimates that if her abilities remain uncontrolled, she will only live for about three years. To avoid this, she trains in magic under his guidance. Throughout her life with Elias, Chise gradually becomes more positive as she finds understanding individuals around her and interacts with them. However, due to her upbringing, she lacks a sense of self-preservation and does not hesitate to sacrifice herself to resolve problems, a flaw that she finds difficult to overcome.

As a Sleigh Beggy, Chise easily attracts magical beings, fairies, and spirits, which sometimes lead to trouble. It was also discovered that she has a propensity for sleep, as she once put Elias, who is far more powerful, to sleep with a lullaby. Despite her repeated attempts at concocting during training, she could only produce powerful sleeping potions, making her aware of her own nature.

In the college arc, Chise enrolls in the British College, experiencing interactions with peers she once longed for, which increases her assertiveness. She becomes slightly better at managing her self-sacrificial tendencies after realizing how much trouble and worry it causes others. However, she also feels remorse after learning to sacrifice adversaries instead. At the college, she meets and tries to help Philomela, seeing her past self in her, hoping to heal her own past as well. Near the end of the college arc, when Chise strongly wishes to save Philomela, she contacts the will of a great dragon sleeping deep within the ley lines. Transforming into the Red Dragon and delving into the ley lines, she travels to the Sargent family. The appearance of the Red Dragon in Britain marks a significant event, setting the stage for the next chapter.
