A friend of Reiner and Bertholdt, and Porco's older brother. Initially, it was only mentioned that he was devoured and killed by Ymir's Titan, but later it was revealed that he was the inheritor of the "Jaw Titan" power. He was recognized for his stamina by Captain Magath and was selected as a Warrior candidate. He was admired like an older brother by Reiner and others, and he took on the role of leader among the three in the plan to reclaim the Founding Titan. He cared deeply for his younger brother Porco and manipulated the military's impression by elevating Reiner and disparaging Porco to prevent him from inheriting a Titan. On the first night of landing on Paradis Island in 845 to reclaim the "Founding Titan," he confessed to Reiner about his manipulation and apologized, but was suddenly devoured and killed by Ymir's Titan while protecting Reiner. His death marked a turning point for Reiner, who resolved, "The current me will die and become Marcel," leading to the creation of Reiner's soldier persona, akin to a "reliable older brother," who protects the walls. In the final battle, he appeared in the form of the "Jaw Titan" as one of the past nine Titans resurrected by the Founding Titan. Initially, he became a puppet of Eren and opposed Armin and the others, but responded to Zeke's feelings, who was persuaded by Armin upon reaching the coordinate, and cooperated in the subjugation of the Founding Titan.
