Nickname is "Noya-san".

He excels in receiving skills and inspires the team from the back as "Karasuno's Guardian Deity". Known as a "genius libero" for his exceptional reflexes and intuition. His passion for the libero position is unmatched. After the Interhigh preliminaries, he attempted a jump toss from in front of the attack line but struggled with overhand techniques, and is currently being coached by Sugawara. When Hinata and others joined the club, he had an argument with Tohno in the hallway, involving the vice-principal, resulting in a one-week suspension and a one-month club activity ban.

He attended Chidoriyama Junior High, where he was awarded the Best Libero in the prefecture. He chose Karasuno High School for reasons such as cute girls' uniforms, black gakuran for boys, and proximity to his home, without considering prestigious schools.

He is as noisy as a guerrilla downpour, gets carried away when hyped, and occasionally shows off Hinata's admired technique, "Rolling Thunder (& Again)" (a normal rolling receive). He loves wearing T-shirts with four-character idioms and has a wide variety of them.

As a child, he was unimaginably timid, but overcame this trait following his grandfather's words, "It's a waste to end without understanding."

On the day before the finals of the Spring High preliminaries, he motivated the team by saying, "If Shiratorizawa has Ushiwaka (Ushijima Wakatoshi), Karasuno has me," and during the match, he declared, "The only one who can match him (Ushijima) is me," playing a crucial role in total defense. In the fifth set, he made consecutive super receives that led to Karasuno's match point, inspiring the spikers by saying, "Even if my thighs burst, I rely on you for the aerial battles."

Although a master at receiving, he has long struggled with overhand ball touches, which are typically used in jump float serves, making serve receives difficult. During the Spring High main match against Inarizaki, he was targeted by Miya Atsumu's serves, a humiliating experience that he overcame with his inherent grit.

He and Tanaka are known as the noisy second-year duo, both adoring their manager Kiyoko (third-year). He is the only one who has ever been slapped by Kiyoko, earning him and Tanaka the title of "masters" from Yamamoto Takeshi (Nekoma).

Like Tanaka, he struggles with studies. He was tutored by Ennoshita (second-year) and barely passed the final exams.

After graduation, he quit volleyball and embarked on a journey to satisfy his curiosity by traveling around the world, sending a photo of himself fishing in Italy to Tohno. In 2021, he traveled the world with Tohno.
