Sissel[a]

The magician who created the dungeon. A small elf with brown skin and silver hair. Male. Occasionally, the shape of his pupils changes.

His existence was hinted at from the beginning of the story, but he appeared when Laios entered the "moving painting." He met Laios, who was wandering in search of food, and attacked him with intense hostility. Normally, the "moving painting" is a re-experience of past events, but he remembered meeting Laios after the Red Dragon subjugation.

He appears before Laios and his party, who have accomplished the subjugation of the Red Dragon and the regeneration of Farin. He calls Laios and his companions "thieves" and "usurpers," takes Farin, uses ancient magic, and repels Laios's party. Rid, the sister of the Orc tribe leader Zon, considers this elf to be the "Mad Sorcerer," and Laios was intuitively convinced of this.

He claims the dungeon for the "Golden Kingdom" to which he shows strong loyalty, as belonging to King Delgar, hence he harbors strong hostility towards the adventurers exploring it, employing monsters and familiars to search for Delgar. Especially, when the directly employed monsters are killed, he appears, incurs his wrath, and is attacked.

Originally, as a child, he was hired as a jester by Delgar's father, who wanted an elf servant, and grew up like a brother to Delgar. Initially, he respected humans as a child, but as he grew older, he realized their immaturity and clumsiness and could no longer respect them, so although he would be a main figure for Delgar's grandson Yaad, their relationship seems to be informal.

He was present when Delgar's father was poisoned and is strongly obsessed with protecting Delgar and the Golden Kingdom. Later, at Delgar's suggestion, he began to study magic, showed his talents, but eventually became obsessed with black magic, cast an "immortality curse" on the kingdom's residents, and turned the Golden Castle into a dungeon.

As the "Mad Sorcerer," he acts only on his own self-righteous logic and emotions, and can no longer communicate normally with others. He protects the former residents of the Golden Kingdom, speaks kindly to ghosts, but also executes residents suspecting rebellion, essentially acting as a dictator. Regarding the Delgar family, who suggested leaving the labyrinth, he separated their bodies and souls, keeping the bodies at his home.

Later, he attacks the first floor when the opportunity arises but is thwarted by the Canary Squad and Kabru. There, he is informed for the first time by Misrun that Delgar has already perished and that Delgar wished for Sissel's death just before disappearing, but he refused to accept it. Later, he confronts Laios and others again in his hideout. He summons various dragons and kills the four others except Laios, but is defeated by Laios's tactics using the dragons' nature.

Laios suggests using the "food" that the kingdom's residents and Sissel no longer needed, as a chance for reconciliation, saying, "The people are exhausted by an unnatural eternal life that does not require sleep or food." Misinterpreting Laios's words, Sissel thinks that by continuously pouring honey into their mouths while restraining them with plants, he can make the people happy and protect them. Sissel, intending to show gratitude, casts this foie gras-like torturous magic on Laios and indulges in pleasure, but is caught off guard by a winged lion, which consumes a thousand years' worth of his desires. Even the desire to see Delgar's face one more time is consumed, and as his consciousness fades, Sissel wishes for the defeat of the winged lion and revives Marcille nearby. Afterward, he survives but is in a shell-like state similar to the former Misrun.
