Fuegoleon exploits this temporary weak spot and incinerates Karl.

No.2 Alfred

Alfred is another corpse under Rades’ control, notable for having no arms or legs and floating in the air.

Despite his eerie appearance, he is unable to show much in battle, as Fuegoleon turns him to charcoal almost instantly.

No.3 David

David is a corpse mage who wields muddy-water magic.

His attribute gives him a strong matchup advantage, causing serious trouble for Leopold Vermillion and Noelle Silva.

However, after Fuegoleon’s encouragement fires Leopold up, Leopold burns David and ends the threat.

In the Magic Knight entrance exam he passed at the top of his class, showcasing mana on par with royal blood.

Despite this, his use of Wraith Magic was branded a forbidden art, and he was expelled from the Knights.

Being rejected and cast out by the Clover Kingdom for his magic turned into a deep, burning grudge.

This personal hatred drives many of his later actions, especially his involvement with hostile factions.

Eye of the Midnight Sun

After being driven out, Rades joins the terrorist group Eye of the Midnight Sun as a dark mage.

Within this group, he becomes part of their assault force, lending his corpse army to large-scale attacks.

He becomes obsessed with proving his power and punishing the kingdom that refused to acknowledge him.

Independent Assault on the Royal Capital

During the plan to attack the Clover Kingdom’s royal capital, Rades acts on his own agenda.

He prioritizes his personal revenge over the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s broader strategy.

He launches an attack on the capital with his undead army, turning the city into a battlefield.

In this assault he directly confronts Magic Knight Captain Fuegoleon Vermillion of the Crimson Lion Kings.

Although Rades’ magic is formidable, Fuegoleon defeats him in direct combat.

Beaten, Rades drops his vendetta momentarily in favor of the original plan: stealing the magic stone Fuegoleon carries.

Conflict with Asta and First Retreat

After losing to Fuegoleon, Rades attempts to complete the mission and then retreat.

However, Asta refuses to let him leave, forcing Rades into another battle.

Despite having no magic power, Asta manages to push Rades into a corner.

Asta’s anti-magic attacks wound Rades, who is forced to abandon the fight and escape.

The aftermath of the royal capital attack leaves Rades with almost all of his controlled corpses destroyed.

Instead of giving up, he develops an intense hatred for Asta specifically, enraged that a magicless kid could threaten him.

Rebuilding His Army and Being Sacrificed

Driven by his grudge against Asta, Rades gathers a new army of corpses.

He continues to refine his Wraith Magic and enhances his undead forces for another chance at revenge.

At one point, he infiltrates the Black Bulls’ hideout and steals a magic stone from them.

However, this leads to him being used by Licht (Patry) as a disposable pawn.

Patry sacrifices Rades as the “immense magic and sacrifice” needed to trigger a forbidden spell.

Rades is killed in the process, treated as nothing more than a magical battery.

Evolution of True Wraith Magic and Return

Rades’ rage at being used and murdered causes his Wraith Magic to evolve to its true nature.

His magic transcends simple corpse control and becomes full-fledged soul manipulation.

Using this enhanced power, he restores his own soul to his body, effectively coming back from death.

Now fully aware of Patry’s betrayal, Rades vows revenge against him.

Cooperation with the Black Bulls and Patry’s Soul

Seeking revenge against Patry, Rades strikes a deal and temporarily joins forces with the Black Bulls.

His knowledge of forbidden magic and soul manipulation makes him uniquely useful in the conflict at the Shadow Palace.

When the Shadow Palace collapses, the mage Valtos uses his magic to help them escape.

At the same time, Patry’s reincarnation is undone, and his soul is set to pass on.

Out of spite for how Patry used him, Rades refuses to let Patry simply vanish in peace.

He uses his magic to place Patry’s soul into the vacant artificial body that had been created as a copy of Licht.

This act keeps Patry bound to the world, both as revenge and as a strange form of twisted mercy.

Role in the Battle Against the Spade Kingdom

After the Clover Kingdom is attacked by Zenon Zogratis and Dante Zogratis, two of the Dark Triad of the Spade Kingdom, a counter-strike is organized.

Nacht Faust selects Rades as one of the elite members of the task force assembled to invade the Spade Kingdom.

Rades’ combination of mass corpse control and soul manipulation makes him a powerful, unconventional asset in the coming war.

Despite his history as an enemy, he stands alongside former foes to challenge a greater threat than his personal grudges.
