Character Setting

Edit

Sid Barrett is a dedicated teacher at the DWMA, a knife Meister who partners with Mira Naigus. After a bizarre death involving the Statue of Liberty, he was resurrected as a zombie by Dr. Stein, a fact that hilariously complicates his life as an educator.

Height: 196cm (from *Soul Eater Not!* anime setting materials), approximately 200cm (from the first anime's comparison chart).

As a zombie, Sid has distinctive blue skin and dreadlocks.

A hole remains in the middle of his forehead from the accident that killed him.

He often wears hats or headbands, which usually cover the hole.

In flashbacks, his appearance has varied; his skin was white in the first episode but black in a later flashback, suggesting some changes in his design over time. The first anime also depicted his appearance before death.

Sid is a stoic, upstanding, and incredibly cool teacher.

He is very dedicated to his students and passionate about education.

He often proudly declares, "I was... that kind of man," when reminiscing about his past self.

However, if he does something that contradicts his old principles, he'll deflect with, "Well, that was back when I was alive."

He seems to be a bit down lately because many students don't know how to interact with a zombie.

When he was alive, he held a strong personal creed of never telling a lie.

Sid Barrett is a teacher at the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA).

His original name was Sid Barrett, but his current name (written differently in Japanese) refers to his zombie state. The prequel *Soul Eater Not!* uses his birth name.

He was killed in a freak event known as the "Statue of Liberty Incident," where a part of the statue was fatally stabbed into his forehead.

He was later resurrected as a zombie by the brilliant but eccentric Dr. Franken Stein.

Sid is a three-star Meister, the highest possible rank for a Meister.

His skills are top-notch, allowing him to overwhelm students like Maka Albarn without even using a weapon.

He has proven to be an equal match for the skilled swordsman Mifune.

He is a master of infiltration and assassination, with a unique ability to burrow and move underground.

In a memorable fight during a remedial lesson, he even used his own gravestone as a weapon.

His partner is the Demon Knife, Mira Naigus.

For certain missions, he also coordinates with Azusa Yumi, one of the Death Scythes.

He is a deeply caring teacher who looked after a student suspected of being a spy, insisting they were still "one of his kids."

His name is a fun pun, as "Shido" sounds like the Japanese word for "dead person" (死人), fitting for a zombie who is "living" while dead.

His full name is a nod to the British musician Syd Barrett.

On art sites like Pixiv, fans often don't differentiate between his living and zombie names.

"I was... that kind of man." (Often said with pride about his past self.)

"That was back when I was alive." (Used as an excuse when his actions don't align with his old self.)

Soul Eater

Sid Barrett died in what's known as the "Statue of Liberty Incident."

He was then resurrected by Dr. Stein and, to help students with a remedial lesson, he played the part of a villain, ambushing people in a cemetery.

This was all just an act for the sake of the students' education. After his "defeat" by Maka and her friends, he seamlessly returned to his teaching duties at the DWMA.

Despite being a zombie with a drastic change in appearance, he's otherwise the same as he was in life, with no special modifications from Stein. As one of the DWMA's elite Meisters, he is always on the front lines, handling everything from covert ops to combat command.

Soul Eater Not! (Spoilers Ahead!)

This story is set before the main series, so Sid appears in his living form.

He is a teacher for the NOT class (the non-combatant general studies class) and is in charge of new students like Tsugumi Harudori.

He also investigates a mysterious "Traitor" case and other incidents, such as guarding a princess. His investigation leads him to the witch Shaula Gorgon, who has been brainwashing students with poison.

Sid devises a plan to lure Shaula out using a brainwashed student as bait. However, Shaula sees through the trap and brings the student's friends to the scene, forcing Sid into a fight he didn't want.

He battles her alone and nearly wins, but his earlier miscalculation proves fatal, and he is defeated and killed.

When his allies arrive, they find his body with a piece of a shattered Statue of Liberty arm stuck in his forehead, revealing the truth behind the infamous incident. The anime's final post-credits scene shows him rising from his grave as a zombie, with Stein watching from the shadows, perfectly connecting the prequel to the main storyline.

Sid never blamed the student involved in the incident, believing it was his own fault for using them as a pawn. After his resurrection, he treats them with the same kindness as before.

Voice Actor (CV): Masafumi Kimura.
