Megumin

Megumin is a small, thin girl with short black hair, blunt bangs, and bright red eyes—classic features of the Crimson Demon Clan. She usually wears a large, pointy black wizard hat, a black cloak, and a black-and-red robe that makes her look like a typical mage. Her left eye is covered by an eyepatch, which is just for show. She's flat-chested, which is an ongoing joke, and she gets easily teased about looking like a kid.

Her height is 148 cm.

Her birthday is December 4.

Megumin is dramatic, confident, and loves to make flashy speeches. She is obsessed with Explosion Magic and refuses to learn any other magic, even if life would be easier. She tends to get very excited when praised or challenged, instantly wanting to show off her power. She talks politely most of the time but can get rough and childish when upset, especially about her appearance or her age.

Megumin sometimes refers to herself as “I” or “Ore” (when acting especially dramatic). She's usually calm, but unexpected events can throw her into a panic. She cares about her friends deeply and is sometimes the most sensible member of the group (as long as explosions aren't involved!).

Megumin grew up in the Crimson Demon Village, known for high-level magic users. Her father, Hyoizaburo, and mother, Yuiyui, struggle with money, so Megumin’s family is poor. She has a younger sister, Komekko, who is seven years younger. When Megumin was a child, she accidentally broke a powerful seal and witnessed the goddess Wolbach defeat a demon with a huge explosion. From then on, she became obsessed with Explosion Magic.

Even though she was the top of her class in school and could have learned many strong spells, Megumin saved up all her skill points for Explosion Magic alone. She is also good at looking after others (especially children) and does things like cutting her friends’ hair.

Her dream is to become a powerful mage—and to have a bigger chest.

Megumin’s class is Arch Wizard, one of the strongest mage jobs. She has huge magical power and high stats, surprising for her small build. She only knows Explosion Magic, which is really strong and has a long range but can only be used once a day. After casting it, she's out of power and collapses. The spell can be dangerous to use in close quarters.

Megumin refuses to learn any magic besides Explosion Magic. She uses all her skill points to make the spell stronger and faster. Besides magic, she is tough in a fight, good at sneak attacks, and once almost turned a magical testing cloth to ash with a touch.

Kazuma Satou

Megumin starts out thinking her type is the complete opposite of Kazuma, but after many adventures, she falls for him. She confesses in Volume 5, and after a friendly rivalry with Darkness, their relationship grows. By Volume 12, they are more than friends, but not officially a couple yet. The author has confirmed she is a fitting match for Kazuma.

Aqua

Megumin gets along well with Aqua and often entertains her. She finds Aqua troublesome but cares about her and joins her in games.

Darkness

Megumin and Darkness share a love of adventure, and they get along unless Darkness shows interest in Kazuma. When this happens, Megumin can get sharp and teasing. She acts more mature than Darkness at times.

Yunyun

Megumin acts aloof towards Yunyun, but this is to help Yunyun grow braver. Secretly, Megumin treasures their friendship, feels lonely if Yunyun isn’t around, and cares about her deeply.

Iris

Iris and Megumin are close in age and quickly become friends. Megumin welcomes Iris into her group and feels competitive since Iris also gets Kazuma's attention.

Cecily

Megumin meets Cecily after leaving her village and finds her a little much, but appreciates her kindness and calls her “big sister.”

Chomusuke

Megumin's pet Chomusuke is a little black cat with wings. Chomusuke is cute, quiet, and likes baths after merging with Wolbach. She was once known as the goddess Wolbach’s violent half but doesn't remember it.

After arriving in Axel, Megumin tried to join parties but kept being rejected since she only knew Explosion Magic and could only use it once per day. When she tried to join Kazuma Satou’s group, he almost turned her away for being “useless.” But soon, she proved her worth in battle and became a core member.

Life in Axel

Megumin and her friends go on many adventures. She uses Explosion Magic, often causing over-the-top destruction—and making a name for herself in Axel. People start calling her “the crazy Crimson Demon girl” after monsters complain about her attacks.

Kazuma Satou and Megumin become close, eventually developing romantic feelings. There’s a slow love rivalry between her and Darkness, ending with Kazuma Satou and Megumin secretly becoming more than friends.

Chomusuke’s Secret

Megumin’s pet, Chomusuke, is actually half of the goddess Wolbach. At first, even others call Chomusuke “Megumin” as a joke, causing confusion. After merging with Wolbach’s other half, Chomusuke changes a little, but stays Megumin’s beloved pet.

Megumin’s addiction to Explosion Magic leads to lots of trouble and wild moments, both helping and hurting the party. Even when it’s impractical, she will always choose explosion.

Megumin’s age, look, and style are different in the web novel than in the books and anime. She has long hair, speaks more quietly, and seems even more mature.
