An old man with glasses and a hairstyle like a flower. Generally serious, but sometimes tells surreal jokes with a straight face. Once the most reputed doctor at sea, he was the only one who could alleviate Roger's suffering from an incurable disease. He possesses a variety of skills, such as killing a giant squid in one blow and modifying the inside of Laboon without harming its health. His weapon is a harpoon. He is a user of the Observation Haki.

Has been taking care of the whale Laboon, entrusted to him by the Rumbar Pirates 52 years ago. 28 years ago, he was asked to become the doctor of the Roger Pirates and accompanied them in conquering the Grand Line, learning the world's secrets. He joined the crew to search for the missing Rumbar Pirates. He sailed with them for only three years, but the vice-captain Rayleigh called him "undoubtedly one of us."

He explained the workings of the Grand Line to the Straw Hat Pirates and gave them a Log Pose as thanks for stopping Laboon from continuously hitting his head against the "Red Line."

He described Luffy as a man with a curious aura and wondered to Roger if they were the pirates they had been waiting for.

His name is derived from the flower crocus.
