Zoe Ivy

Introduced during the Academy Arc, a classmate of Chise who has a magician father studying humanoid languages and a Gorgon mother. Due to Gorgons being hunted for their bodies as experimental materials for magicians, their numbers have significantly decreased, and they live hidden villages to avoid humans, which led to them initially hiding their true identity. Being non-human, they are sensitive to the presence of their own kind, and at first avoided Chise due to sensing the dragon aura emanating from her, though they later talked and became friends. As a Gorgon, their powers are unstable, requiring constant wear of earmuffs and goggles to control it, though they are currently training to control their powers without needing to wear these. Previously, when they lost control and showed their true form, they became conscious of Lucy, who commented that the snakes on their head were beautiful.

The gorgon's "evil eye," as told in folklore, does not usually have the power to petrify but can paralyze the stared person. However, Zoe's evil eye is strong enough to actually petrify, as revealed in the story. Still, they tend to run away without seeing the result and aren't aware of their own power, and there are hardly any witnesses when they use it, hence it remains largely unknown. During the rescue of Philomela, they encountered a female werewolf and stayed behind to delay her. At that moment, an unusual personality surfaced and precisely controlled the evil eye to break the mental curse set on the werewolf. However, they are not conscious of their abilities, and do not understand what they did or the extent of their power.
